Strange DM story today, nothing adds up

expatinscotland · 09/02/2015 12:37

No mention of their appearing on Loose Women.

EXPATINSCOTLAND/ smokingun/ melty and the rest of the sheeps

The B&B is a genuine business and has been for years. The owner is called Alan Legge and the lady Katrina (not Smith).
If you bother to check TripAdvisor than you would see that the business has been going on for years well before the couple in the story sold up.
If the journalists namely Lucy Osborne from Daily Mail?/ the guy from Daily Mirror visiting the B&B bothered to report the truth than they would have no story, would they? As they have been told. Since the couple running it the B&B is at least 20 years younger with completely different surnames.

Have stayed in the B&B yesterday and did so in the past. On this occasion the journalists are pathetic liars with no interest to tell the truth.

Interesting first post, eh, noddy Wink?

£1400/month. So needy. PMSL.

noddyholder · 09/02/2015 12:53

yep

expatinscotland · 09/02/2015 12:53

There was apparently some musical surnames/photos going on, according to some. Allegedly. Wink

Pipbin · 09/02/2015 13:11

Completely ignoring this B&B that they may or may not have anything to do with, they still wasted their money.
Yes they made poor choices but not through lack of education. Given the jobs they had they knew better.

I look at homeless people and feel that but for a few poor choices that could be any of us. But there is often a lot more to the story of most homeless people than poor choices - background of abuse, addiction bereavement etc. They need our help more.

Yeah, sheeps.
Listen to Eve.

to think you can't claim to be homeless living in an airport if your income is £1400 a month
SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 09/02/2015 13:27

Eve117 I couldn't give a toss whether they own a B&B or not. The fact is they are not destitute, they have more than enough money to rent a little flat in a cheaper part of the country. If they insist on making ridiculous choices, wasting money and holding out for the sort of home they used to live in then more fool them. I have no sympathy. I reserve that for the genuinely homeless who do not get to stay in £50 a night hotels and instead sleep in shop doorways.

Oh and the plural of sheep is sheep - but I'm guessing that expensive manicure makes it hard to type.

Taz1212 · 09/02/2015 13:27

Today's New Statesman has quite a good article about the couple. My stupid ipad isn't letting me paste links but a Google news search will bring it up.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 09/02/2015 13:29

I'm also confused about the changing surnames, I've seen about four reported Hmm

HairyOrk · 09/02/2015 13:56

It screams con - but a bizarre one. If you're going to that length to con people, why do it so publicly and so badly?

noddyholder · 09/02/2015 14:00

I think the DM love the idea of the poor squeezed middle and the injustice for babyboomers who have fallen on hard times. There are different degrees of homeless you now and these were the right 'type' in the run up to a GE

expatinscotland · 09/02/2015 14:10

Find a new place to live. Hand in notice. Then tell him no to viewings, photos or any of his sale shite. He'll sell it no matter what and you'll have to get out or negotiate a new tenancy. We had ONE offer like this and of course the cheeky cunt wanted to jack up the rent. Fuck off and go through the hassle and expense of finding a new tenant then. Not our problem.

We did this every time with no problems. Just CBA'd with strangers traipsing through our home poking around at all our stuff, photos of our home and things online, keeping the home pristine for someone else's benefit or being scolded for having moving boxes and half-taken down furniture about, etc. so would just change the lock barrels, find another place to live, hand in notice and tell the LL no, they could wait till we left in a month.

expatinscotland · 09/02/2015 14:11

Sorry, wrong thread Grin

The point is that the B&B has got nothing to do with the story. The owners are most likely too busy earning their living by running a business unlike the couple in the article.
Some numbty made allegations and assumptions and everyone with no brain of their own just joined in.
As I said why don't you check so said TripAdvisors apparently Carlton Kirby and his colleagues from Eurosport stayed there as well. Actual journalists.

OnceUponATimeAgain · 09/02/2015 14:24

hahahaha expatinscotland
i was like whaaaaa?

expatinscotland · 09/02/2015 14:30

And it appears other journos turned up a whole lot more on this pair.

Surprise, surprise!

noddyholder · 09/02/2015 14:31

Its odd that the B and B is where they said they stayed on their 2 'treat' nights and the owners have the same names! Plus you would think they would love the publicity for their hotel but they are taking it down and not answering the phone ;)

Taz1212 · 09/02/2015 14:35

Is it the same B&B? I thought someone had just been searching the Internet and happened upon this B&B in the right location with owners with the same(ish) first names?

If I were the B&B owners, I'd probably be a bit fed up now. God knows how many internet "sleuths" have been phoning them!

Eve117 · 09/02/2015 14:47

It looks like there are still journalists doing their job properly such as Martin Robbins from Newstatesman
www.newstatesman.com/martin-robbins/2015/02/story-middle-class-heathrow-homeless-couple-too-good-be-true
"It’s worth addressing another rumour at this point. Various people on the Go Fund Me page set up to raise money for the couple have commented that a local B&B has TripAdvisor Reviews in which customers thank the owners, ‘Alan and Katrina’. One blogger even claims to have reached a ‘Katrina Smith’ at the establishment by phone. In fact, the B&B appears to be run by a different Alan entirely, and the property hasn’t changed hands since 2001. I’m pretty certain the names are a coincidence"
