The story states that they sold their house in 2006, releasing £190k in equity, but that because of 'spiralling living costs' that had all gone by 2011.

This is what I find staggering and makes me feel less than generous towards this couple. Surely their best bet at this juncture would have been to purchase a one bed flat absolutely anywhere they could afford to ( anywhere outside of London would be doable with this budget!!).

They have lived far far above their means for years and years so it's not surprising they are living like this now.

I'm afraid I don't really. They've made some terrible decisions, lived well beyond their means and clearly not bothered saving for the future.

With £190k they could have moved areas, bought a 3 bed house outright, got themselves jobs even if not high paying, lived mortgage free and lived a nice easy life. Instead they spent the lot and are now living in an airport

I read this earlier today and couldn't understand how they had managed to have no money given all of the equity they had. The £190k they sold the last property for could have bought a new property.
They are either lying or really bad with money (or both).
I think they are just lying to try and get a council house. Maybe they think sad faces are a one way trip to a council house.
