Eg
"What would I do with £1400 a month? King's ransom! Be flying out of Heathrow on that!"

expatinscotland · 11/02/2015 16:32

Well, if there were two of us and we were not tied to any particular location due to work, school, commitments, I'd find THE cheapest place to rent a bedsit I could find in a relatively safe area. It would be entirely possible to live on that quite comfortably if you can move to really cheap areas because you don't have to worry about employment commitments.

bookbag40 · 11/02/2015 16:33

I think 1400 is a reasonable amount for a retired couple with no kids. No need for a car if you rent a flat near to shops and pensioners get a free bus pass. Also I think you could spend £30-£50 per week on food so would not need £300 per month on food. If you are not in London you could get a small 1 bed flat for about £500 and you wouldn't need to spend £600 a year on Xmas! You wouldn't live like a king but you could live decently if frugally on that amount!

bookbag40 · 11/02/2015 16:39

In fact just looked at Poole on rightmove and a studio flat rents at £450 per month - not big but better than sleeping at Heathrow surely! And Poole is a v expensive area.

expatinscotland · 11/02/2015 16:39

'If you are not in London you could get a small 1 bed flat for about £500'

You can rent one even cheaper than that in a lot of places! Free bus pass and discounted travel. Food is fine out of Aldi and Lidl and they have time to even go to reduced aisles in Waitrose or Sainsbury's.

It is plenty for a couple with no kids and no employment commitments.

bookbag40 · 11/02/2015 16:40

They could get a waitrose card and have a free coffee everyday then expat!

MadameJulienBaptiste · 11/02/2015 23:28

Round here you can rent a 2 bed house for £450 a month which with council tax and utilities would still be less than they cough up for bnb and storage.

ANewMein2015 · 12/02/2015 08:49

So.... was there ever any follow up as to if it was a scam or not....

roverisland · 12/02/2015 10:29

The indiegogo site Once pointed out has disappeared.

Dizzywizz · 12/02/2015 14:17

All the media seem to have gone very quiet on thiS story...

Nokidsnoproblem · 12/02/2015 15:35

I hope they have found somewhere nice to stay if they weren't lying.

Their fund page total is diminishing with refunds

It looks like the mirror have been trying to contact them but couldn't

"'If you are not in London you could get a small 1 bed flat for about £500'

In my part of the country you can rent two bedroomed flats for £350-£375 per week. And not in a terrible area. But if you're really picky, you can get a one bedroomed flat in a very naice area for £395.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 12/02/2015 23:25

"for £350-£375 per week"
Per month - I don't live in Sandbanks.

ANewMein2015 · 12/02/2015 23:30

Wow where is that Saskia? (Seriously think I need to live somewhere cheaper...)

AgaPanthers · 13/02/2015 00:49

The b+b is registered to "Alan Charles Legg" and was purchased in 2001 for £355k.

There are various planning applications made by Alan Legge, and he's on the electoral register there for 2002 to 2010 inclusive. Also it reckons he's aged 60-64.

The domain name was registered in 2006 to Alan Legge.

There is an Alan C Legge at a flat Diamedes Avenue, Stanwell also, at some point. But last sale was in 2012, to two people with Polish names.

Also a Alan C Legge nominated Tory candidate for Borough council at 2011 election.

Nice work Aga!!

I still find it really odd that they haven't spoken out though

Eve117 · 13/02/2015 12:15

Do you also find odd that newspapers are not interested nor want to be associated with their own cock up and effectively no-story?! Thought so but thanks God for people like you who just loooove drama and attention

I dont know what your problem is Eve, and quite frankly i dont really care - but you feel free to vent your frustrations out (are you trying to get the thread killed with your personal attacks? I think you have a vested interest in the LHR2 - are you one of them?)

Eve117 · 13/02/2015 12:51

Working with facts rather than just assumptions/ rumour stops making you like a fool, most of the time.
Never was interested in the LHR2. Just the B&B. Two different things...

OnceUponATimeAgain · 13/02/2015 12:53

I 'dont look like a fool' - i was raising legitimate questions, and STILL the B&B owners have not issued a statement which most NORMAL people would do.....

But i'm bored with 'discussing' this with you, so you have yourself a nice life

Eltonjohnsflorist · 13/02/2015 12:59

The papers wouldn't care if they issued a statement. Rumours and discussion on forums don't really mean much. For all we know they have issued a statement- I'm confident it wouldn't be picked up/ reported by the media. I also totally understand why they haven't- I'd want to hide under a rock and disappear if I were them

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 13/02/2015 15:40

ANewMein2015 South Yorkshire. You'd pay more somewhere like Sheffield, but out in the sticks it is cheaper.
