To be disappointed by lack of snow

The midlands, north of england and scotland have had loads of snow. Spain has had loads of snow. Hertfordshire has only had a light dusting of snow this year. My kids want to make a snowman and haven't really had the opportunity this year.

I know that snow causes problem for people who have to get to work, but my kids would love to go sledging.

Well, you don't get much further north than me, Newcastle, and we've had no real snow at all...just a little dusting on one or two days. Not disappointed by that though!

I'm North Scotland. Travel has been hell. Is your kids need to build a snowman more important than people getting to work safely? No. I didn't think so.

I'm disappointed too. I love the snow.

Also, if your kids want to go sledging so badly take them on a winter holiday where is is snow. It really pisses me off when people say "oh my kids want to build a snowman/go sledging" when people struggle to get to work.

I'm hoping we are into spring. It was so beautifully sunny today - the park was full of happy children in shirt sleeves and jumpers, not huge coats.

Brown, I have no more control over the weather than you do. It is not my fault that scotland has loads of snow at the moment. My kids wanting to build a snow man has no affect on the weather.

As far as going to work, I am shocked that northern scotland does not have the intrastructure to cope with snow like the Germans or Candians. Certainly in a lot of europe it is complusory to have winter tyres and they are more efficent about clearing roads.

I am in The Midlands - we have had fuck all snow

But

I hate the snow

It grinds everything to a hault
Our roads arent gritted enough so it causes accidents
Our pavements arent gritted either so even I can break a bone let alone our elderly

The snow, whilst looking pretty is a huge hazard

I love the otherworldliness of it. The siege mentality of stocking up food after a trek to the supermarket. I don't know what it is but I love it and miss it. Desperately want some. A week's worth will do.

We've had snow for weeks. It's sort of all compacted and the top layer keeps thawing and freezing. Was -8 this morning so it's solid ice snow now. Shite for sledging and snowman building and even just walking on......but we did manage to build an actual mini toddler sized igloo in the garden this year

Great lesson for 'your kids'....you don't always get what you want, or think you want. Life's tough

I always assume that people who are so keen on snow don't have to worry about getting to work.

I shall be delighted if we've seen the back of it this winter.

In north London here. Tuesday it snowed, about 2 cm. my dd (2.5) has such fun waking to nursery. We made snowballs and stamped our feet etc.
she wanted to build a snowman but it all melted before she got home.
She has asked me for snow each day this week and cried several times when it doesn't snow. So YANBU. I want some snow to make her happy and so I can play with her and she can experience it properly. But I only want it for that. Just one day.

Its a damn hazard. A romantic dreamy thing of course but a nightmare in the same respect.

Snow is the shits.

It is lovely to look at and it is lovely when it is fresh. Then you get all the yellow snow, then slush then deadly ice to fall over and break your back.

Oh and a random kid throwing a snowball at you. We had a bit of snow last week and some kid threw some in my face!!

Ooooo, and regards to the work/travel aspect. Nope, still love snow.

It grinds the underground (the over ground bits which I use) to a halt and the roads are full of people who can't drive in snow and it causes hell - still love it.

I haven't actually directed any anger Worra. I'm simply stating a point that snow causes severe problems for some. Wanting snow is fine if you don't don't need to drive in it to get to work, however some do and snowman building and sledging is not everyone's priorities. As I said, of people want snow take children on a winter holiday.

Barely anything here either. A dusting round us for one morning, a snow storm that swirled for 15 minutes and then melted. The mountains look fab dusted in white for several weeks.
Nothing last year either . . . disappointed children and a Mummy who would like to make this wish come through, if only for a day!

Why would you need to stock up on food? FFS we have had 10" of snow and we still manage to get out daily. It's hardly a snow siege . Unless people live rurally it's not a hardship to walk to a shop. A few flakes of snow and people panic about bread and milk. In 2010 we had two foot of snow, London got a few centimetres and OMG time stopped for London. We still managed to survive, go fathom that one out. Snow hits London and it's a panic. Snow hits Scotland (which is normal) and we just get on with it.

Its a terrible hazard in London and pensioners are scared to go out of their houses due to knowing they may fall. So just "getting on with it" is not a great thing.
