To be disappointed by lack of snow

The midlands, north of england and scotland have had loads of snow. Spain has had loads of snow. Hertfordshire has only had a light dusting of snow this year. My kids want to make a snowman and haven't really had the opportunity this year.

I know that snow causes problem for people who have to get to work, but my kids would love to go sledging.

Of course I'm not going to buy snow tyres and pay to have them fitted for a few days a year.
I drive extensively in my job. If I don't go to work I let people down and don't get paid. I can't get to my self employment either.
And I can't see what's magical or amusing about watching other people struggling to drive or watching people struggling to walk about.

ghostyslovesheep · 06/02/2015 22:49

no I am taking the piss Tink - because you can get to work with snow - it just takes longer

people getting told off for wanting a bit of snow fun - that's just daft

I lived in Bavaria for a while - managed to function despite the snow

on the days here where I haven't be bale to work due to school closure I've used leave or unpaid leave

it's hardly the end of the world

I think being unduly snipey is uncalled for - so I was being daft - if that's ok

LittleBrownRabbit · 06/02/2015 22:49

ghosty are you in Norway? I've seen your posts before re snow tyres. My sister lives there and they have to have snow tyres from Oct. it's a legal requirement. It always makes me laugh that this country grinds to a halt in a few CM of snow.

LittleBrownRabbit · 06/02/2015 22:51

Tinks snow is a hazard for pensioners anywhere not just London.

ilovesooty · 06/02/2015 22:51

I fell and broke my elbow on snow and ice one year. Living on my own I've no one to help me out if I end up in plaster again.
No, for me the snow can stay well away.

ghostyslovesheep · 06/02/2015 22:51

no I am in the midlands

my post was in response to your 'if you want to play in the snow book a winter holiday' ... comment

as in 'if you want to get to work buy snow tyres'

both are just stupid solutions really

Madeyemoodysmum · 06/02/2015 22:51

I'm in herts and we managed a small snowman Thursday morning.

He is still with us even tho the ground snow has gone.

Tinks42 · 06/02/2015 22:52

So what brown rabbit, it does.

We are not equipped for it. It brings struggle and death.

Cant understand the "get on with it" mentality here for something that is a "romantic" thing?

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 06/02/2015 22:54

The Midlands have had snow?
I must have blinked and missed it!

LittleBrownRabbit · 06/02/2015 22:55

ghost people whinge all the time about no snow. If they want snow then book a holiday where is snow if it means that much to them.

We don't need snow tyres where we are. A 4 x 4 does the job.

ghostyslovesheep · 06/02/2015 22:55

me too

plenty of sleet

no snow :( I want a snow day and some fun

Bodicea · 06/02/2015 22:57

No snow in Preston :-(

ghostyslovesheep · 06/02/2015 22:57

well yes my 4x4 is equally able - but then I'm not sure why you where banging on about not being able to get into work?

jetting off to the snow is not in many peoples budgets

building a snowman in your back yard is much more affordable

which is why people want a bit of snow

Tinks42 · 06/02/2015 22:58

will send the pensioners to you then that have broken a limb etc to have a bit of fun!

Bloody nutters. Its a fucking hazard unless you have nowhere to go and time to play.

LittleBrownRabbit · 06/02/2015 22:58

tinks I never said it was romantic. I hate the bloody stuff. People do just get on with it as there's nothing else to do except get to work in it. A few CM of snow is nothing.

26Point2Miles · 06/02/2015 22:59

Well it's not happening! So it's tough. The kids will get over it, the disappointed mummies will too

HedgehogsDontBite · 06/02/2015 22:59

If you want some snow I'll send you all some ours, it's rubbish this year. We have tons of it now, being in Sweden, but it's really dry and powdery. Tried to make a snowman with DS this morning but gave up because you can't stick it together at all.

LittleBrownRabbit · 06/02/2015 23:00

"Jetting off to the snow is not in many peoples budgets"

There's loads of snow in many places in the UK. You don't need to go abroad to find it.

26Point2Miles · 06/02/2015 23:01

Oh, and remember the realities..... 20 minutes to get them all kitted out in gear suitable for snow, ten minutes out there and they are soaked cold and want to come in! Romantic illusions shattered!

ghostyslovesheep · 06/02/2015 23:01

pmsl this thread is weird

I want snow Grin

Tinks42 · 06/02/2015 23:02

I get the sod it, get on with stuff mentality but the old and infirm cant do that, they are housebound during the snow. So no, I dont want it at all.

LittleBrownRabbit · 06/02/2015 23:02

Well it's not happening! So it's tough. The kids will get over it, the disappointed mummies will too

Exactly!

Tinks42 · 06/02/2015 23:03

you dont get it ghosty because you dont look deeper than your hunters Grin

Tinks42 · 06/02/2015 23:05

double exactly!

ghostyslovesheep · 06/02/2015 23:05

Poor OP you only posted a light hearted little wish for snow - bet you never expected angry cries of 'will no one thinks of the pensioners' and odd comments about travelling for snow Grin
