To be disappointed by lack of snow

The midlands, north of england and scotland have had loads of snow. Spain has had loads of snow. Hertfordshire has only had a light dusting of snow this year. My kids want to make a snowman and haven't really had the opportunity this year.

I know that snow causes problem for people who have to get to work, but my kids would love to go sledging.

ghostyslovesheep · 06/02/2015 23:29

Tinks42 · 06/02/2015 23:31

England is mild in temperature mostly, thats why i love it.

Tinks42 · 06/02/2015 23:32

Yeah ok then ghosty i love you Grin

LittleBrownRabbit · 06/02/2015 23:34

I have Hunter wellies but wear Tesco ones too. I hate snow, I really fucking hate that white stuff. I struggle to get to work in snow and hate to drive in it. It's ok to want your kids to build snowmen and go sledging but spare a thought for those that wake up and think "aw fuck sake more snow". It's February, so hopefully no more of that bloody white stuff!

ghostyslovesheep · 06/02/2015 23:39

or we may have another snowy Easter LBR Grin

but you will be able to sit in and eat chocolate - so not all bad

ghostyslovesheep · 06/02/2015 23:40

anyway I'm off to bed to dream of thunder snow (I've skied in it) and the great lady bird plague of 1976

night all x

peggyundercrackers · 06/02/2015 23:42

North East scotland here and we have only had the tiniest dusting that lasted for about an hour then it went...

bobbyjoe · 06/02/2015 23:42

Why you presuming Littlebrownrabbit that I live centrally? Maybe I need to stock up on food. Bully for you managing to get out daily. Maybe some of us couldn't. Jesus, it's not that hard to work out some of us don't live in a town let alone a city!

LittleBrownRabbit · 06/02/2015 23:44

Easter snow would send me over the edge. It's a time for bunnies and daffodils. The Easter bunny would never get through the snow to bring my chocolate Shock

LittleBrownRabbit · 06/02/2015 23:48

bobby we're very rural and managed to get out. The snow wasn't that bad, if you choose to live rurally you ensure you can get out. We live 7 miles from the nearest main road and managed to get to it.

bobbyjoe · 06/02/2015 23:50

Littlebrownrabbit you can't judge everyone's circumstances on WHERE YOU LIVE! All I posted was I like the siege mentality of stocking up on some food in case things run out or I can't get out. Why you making an issue of that?

bobbyjoe · 06/02/2015 23:51

And bully for you again managing to get out living 7 miles from the nearest main road. Who cares? "if you choose to live rurally you ensure you can get out". How patronising.

Tinks42 · 06/02/2015 23:51

oh my god where am i?

not only do i have grown women wanting to build snowmen and sod the consequences, they are talking about easter bunnies and daffs.

help

ReallyTired · 07/02/2015 14:50

What's wrong with grown women wanting their children to have fun? We had loads of snow in 2010 and 2011. I discovered the answer was getting snow socks for the car off Ebay. Snow is manageable if you are prepared.

I like hot sunny weather as well. I enjoy the difference between various seasons rather than constant dull drizzle.

Anyway the chances of more snow look pretty low.

I have just been up to the cat and fiddle pub on the way to Buxton. Snow heaven up there Smile

hamptoncourt · 07/02/2015 15:36

I want snow!!! I live in a semi rural area at the top of an incredibly steep hill that gets closed whenever it snows. It is too dangerous to attempt by car or by foot.

So, when it snows I get to stay home for a few days with the DC, fire crackling, drinking tea all day watching tv. It's bliss I tell you!!!!

#praysforsnow

Bowlersarm · 07/02/2015 15:43

Really pleased we haven't had any this year. It just buggers up normal life and puts everything on hold. I find it frustrating.

hamptoncourt · 07/02/2015 15:45

It just buggers up normal life and puts everything on hold

See, that's what I like about it Grin

Plenty of 'pensioners' in the swiss village where our holiday home is. They go walking in the snow daily. What is it about britain and just wanting it to be grey and 15 degrees all year round. I'd love a bit more snow round here. My dog loves the stuff. I still have to drive to work but the snow itself isnt the challenge, it's drivers who cant drive in snow who get in the way.

Also snow winter tyres provide better grip in any conditions where temps are below 7C. It doesn't actually need to be snowy. My car is RWD and I use winter tyres october to march. I have 2 sets of rims and swap them myself on my drive. It costs me no more than only running one set having bought the 2nd set of alloys from ebay, as each tyre lasts twice as long as its on the car for half as many moths each year. Never had a problem including driving up mountains in the alps.
