With my neighbour?

Just had a row with my neighbour who was asking my ex to fit an electric windchime in his garden. I said I didn't like the sound of it and asked if they will be noisy. He said 'yes. Really noisy'. I can't bear windchimes and have asked another neighbour previously to take some down as listening to them on a night was sending me into a homicidal rage.

He went off on one saying he can't stand my cats who crap in his garden. They're not all my cats round here! I feel like the bad guy but am I?

I think OP is lucky he's not getting some sort of cat scarer that makes an even louder noise than chimes, TBH.

chockbic · 05/02/2015 12:51

James its an electric wind chime Hmm

lunar1 · 05/02/2015 13:11

Fucking hell, 12 cats! I have have to stop growing veg and salad in my garden because their are about 7 cats on my road of 73 houses.

If my next door neighbour had 12 cats then the least of their worries would be wind chimes.

You are selfish and thoughtless. You must be a nightmare to live next to. Your greed in keeping so many pets is shocking, but then to compound it by complaining about a wind chime is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.

You are not the centre of the universe, try thinking of others for a change.

Katinkka · 05/02/2015 13:38

Bloody hell. Having 12 cats didn't stop me from growing salad last year. I grew loads. I had to cover it with frames granted but it was fine.

That's because your cats shat in the neighbour's veg patches. Smile

lunar1 · 05/02/2015 13:46

You really can't see that having so many pets is selfish? Why should I have to pay for extra netting/protection in my own garden? It's not really suitable anyway, we get lots of frogs in the garden as my neighbour has a pond. I wouldn't want them getting caught in it.

Get some earplugs and leave your neighbour alone.

Woozlebear · 05/02/2015 13:52

Yawn at the 'you can't dictate what other people put in their gardens brigade'.

No, but that doesn't mean that it's not knobbish and inconsiderate to put something totally pointless and frivolous in your garden that is clearly going to be highly annoying to anyone who didn't choose to have to listen to it. Ie all your neighbours.

And double yawn about the cat poo issue. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Katinkka · 05/02/2015 13:55

As I've pointed out. I didn't plan to get 12 cats. I've been foolish and let myself be taken advantage of I guess. I've tried to rehome some but no takers plus I'm attached to them now and it doesn't seem fair. All I can do is promise not to get any more.

I still don't think that means me and all the other neighbours should put up with sleepless nights because of some irritating chimes.

I asked nicely about the chimes and he grinned and said they will be really really noisy. Just to be bad. I bet he's the one who called the council!

Yes my cat hoarding ex neighbour didn't plan to get a squillion cats, either. All it took was one pregnant stray and a couple of years on it was like a majestic herd of kitties sweeping across the Serengeti.

And I will bet you ANYTHING they didn't crap in her garden. Because they were most definitely doing it in mine.

Canidae · 05/02/2015 14:03

I have a neighbour with 12 cats, 3 bed semi detached so not OP though.

I would rather have 12 windchimes.

Attached to my ears.

In a hurricane.

curlyweasel · 05/02/2015 14:06

Wind chimes are a fucking nuisance. I hate them. They could drive me to murder. It's not just the not being able to tune them out that rankles so much, as the don't give a toss attitude of people who have them. They are invasive and if they bother you a lot there's fuck all you can do.

OP, YANBU - and don't feel bad for trying to do the right thing about the cats. Some people just like to flog a dead horse... you obviously know you've made a rod for your own back in having so many, so I don't see the point in people going on about how irresponsibile you are/have been.

Ffs.
