I'm eating some sandwiches and I've had to use some really shitty bread that my DH purchased and it's frankly ruining my lunch Grin

I'm more than happy to buy own shop brands but I really do believe that some things have to be the 'real thing' and I will not buy cheaper versions to try and get a better deal.

My list includes cereal, nice bread, tea bags, Nutella and pasta sauces Grin

What about every one else??

How surprising. A joke thread about 'food snobbery', invaded by actual food snobs.

Should've put 'lighthearted' in the title, OP. But now, sadly, you're just proof that people in this country don't know how to eat properly.

LackingCommonSense · 04/02/2015 15:16

Fruit juice - I hate concentrated fruit juice. Particularly concentrated OJ. Bleurgh!

SunnyBaudelaire · 04/02/2015 15:16

maybe they talk to Lloyd Grossman jar more respectfully than how they talk to supermarket own brand?

bigbluestars · 04/02/2015 15:18

shaska- was this thread meant as a joke? I really don't think so. Lighthearted perhaps, but not really a sarcastic dig at "foodies".

Writerwannabe83 · 04/02/2015 15:31

It was definitely light hearted but it's been really interesting to read people's responses. I never knew so many people were mad for Birds Eye frozen peas!! I may have to give them a go Smile

Ps) I won't be made to feel bad just because I like a jar of hot and spicy Dolmio Grin

OP posts:
bigbluestars · 04/02/2015 15:33

No one is trying to make you feel bad- but you are certainly not a food snob for liking Domio- quite the opposite!!

Only1scoop · 04/02/2015 15:34

Dolmio Confused

bigbluestars · 04/02/2015 15:35

Thank you.

Only1scoop · 04/02/2015 15:35

If 'nice' is Domio....

I dread to think what the nasty is

Writerwannabe83 · 04/02/2015 15:37

Maybe snob was the wrong word to use in my thread title then Smile I could have made my title more specific to branded and unbranded foods but it may have been a bit long winded and not as eye catching Smile

I'm 100% definitely not a food snob. I went to McDonalds for my lunch today Grin

Only1scoop · 04/02/2015 15:38

Op it's ok....100 percent believe you on that one.

Writerwannabe83 · 04/02/2015 15:38

only1scoop - you should have seen the shitty jar of pasta sauce my DH bought home the other day as a cheaper alternative to Dolmio. It looked and tasted absolutely revolting!!!

OP posts:
SunnyBaudelaire · 04/02/2015 15:39

oh Dolmio LOL!
I have a young Italian friend whose mother really doesn't like cooking, and there were people arriving from Germany expecting some Italian momma cuisine. Yes my friends she bought a jar of Dolmio and then had to fend off the Germans' questions about her precise recipe! Can you not just imagine her shoving it to the bottom of the bin!

Only1scoop · 04/02/2015 15:40

Please please spare me the grim sauce details Confused

I thought Dolmio was as bad as it gets....

PrimalLass · 04/02/2015 15:48

I haven't bought Dolmio since I was a student, but it has fairly inoffensive ingredients.

Tomatoes (73%), Tomato Paste (12%), Onions, Lemon Juice, Sugar, Cornflour, Salt, Sunflower Oil, Basil (0.3%), Garlic, Parsley, Herb, Spices

minipie · 04/02/2015 15:50

Is President butter better than organic supermarket brand?

It tastes better Mamab33, at least the unsalted one does (can't speak for the saletd version). But it's not organic. Swings and roundabouts.

Writerwannabe83 · 04/02/2015 15:50

only1scoop - it's only about 80p for a large jar. Total bargain!!!

OP posts:
OnlyLovers · 04/02/2015 15:51

Oh yes! 'disappearing comments' Grin. What are they? Effing overzealous spellcheck.

I still think the comments about 'this 'country' being full of people who don't know how to eat are out of order, though.

bigbluestars · 04/02/2015 15:51

I don't doubt the integrity of the ingredients, I just think it tastes rank.

PrimalLass · 04/02/2015 15:55

It's funny how we "judge" different things. I am sniffy about non-UK dairy products.

Number3cometome · 04/02/2015 15:57

Butter - I fucking hate cheap spread shit.
It needs to taste like butter.

BlueberryWafer · 04/02/2015 15:58

Tea bags (Yorkshire tea) and Helman's mayo (full fat obviously...).,

sourdrawers · 04/02/2015 17:01

Organic Heinz baked beans. They really are better...

Silverjohnleggedit · 04/02/2015 17:21

I can't eat canned soup, even the cartons of soup are rank and baked beans whatever brand are not welcome in this house, homemade versions of both for me please!

sourdrawers · 04/02/2015 17:34

I wonder if people in other countries regard those for whom good food is important and don't mind paying a bit extra for it, as 'snobs' ?
