Especially when it is on the party wall in the fucking bedroom and we have to listen to the NND watching crap at night.

It is the worst idea ever IMO. Looks terrible and is highly anti -social.

End of rant.

Definitely don't like them above a mantelpiece. Too high. I don't really like them on walls at all - feels a bit corporate to me.

BadgersRetreat · 30/01/2015 20:56

There's no-where else but the wall to put mine. Not a wire in sight though.

Hennightpanic · 30/01/2015 21:01

Isn't it uncomfortable to
look upwards all the time?

sweetkitty · 30/01/2015 21:01

Well ours is on the wall above the fireplace and I love it there, the old one was toddler height and at least twice a day I had to wipe slobber/food/who knows what else off it.

I think our sitting room is big enough to take the size of the TV it's nice and comfy to watch. In my brother house the 50 inch TV is literally about 3 feet from the sofa its a bit weird.

Mines on the wall above fireplace. Replaced TV unt with a kallax storage unit. Much more useful use of space

Sparklingbrook · 30/01/2015 21:09

So has everyone channelled holes in the walls for the wires?

OttiliaVonBCup · 30/01/2015 21:10

Over the fireplace is too high, surely?

LouiseBrooks · 30/01/2015 21:14

YANBU. They are awful, especially above the fireplace. The only things that should go on the wall are pictures and mirrors. I once visited (because of work) the home of an exceedingly rich man (okay, quite possibly the wealthiest man in the country) and he had plasma tvs on the wall in every bloody room except the dining room (would have ruined the silk wallpaper I suspect) and the loo - but there was one in the bathroom.

I also hate big tvs generally. Mine is 22 inches (and not on a stand, it's on a low cupboard in the corner of the room). I could have had a 26 inch but anything bigger would look ridiculous in my house.

FindoGask · 30/01/2015 21:16

TVs are ugly anywhere, so YABU. There is no tasteful way to display one.

Sparklingbrook · 30/01/2015 21:17

Except this Findo.

To hate this trend for hanging televisions on the wall.
Shakey1500 · 30/01/2015 21:18

Sparkling Yes, we have. It "floats" Smile

And the sofa is far enough away to not have to have to crane necks.

And it's above a fireplace hung on the wall Grin

Tulipblank · 30/01/2015 21:19

Totally agree. We've just got a new TV and are redecorating. Had to put my foot down and refuse to allow dh to put the tv on the wall. And I HATE TVs above the fire place.

Tinkerball · 30/01/2015 21:22

It's above my fireplace and I've never felt uncomfortable watching it.

Sparklingbrook · 30/01/2015 21:23

So new TV=get the plasterer in? Shock i wouldn't be doing any of that. Plus what happens if the TV has to go for repair under guarantee 6 months later?

BadgersRetreat · 30/01/2015 21:24

It's not terribly high - ours is in a large room, an open plan main floor so usually its on when i'm cooking etc - so we're often not actually sitting watching it

there's a bigger one in the other living room for that

And yes all the wires are hidden behind the walls so the TV 'floats' like magic Grin

KnittedJimmyChoos · 30/01/2015 21:25

hate to be a harbinger of doom, but actually falling tvs have killed a fair number of toddlers, wanderingcloud

i THOUGHT there were supposed to be safer on the wall? not really likely to fall if drilled in? at 2 year check they said non fixed tv's danger.

anyway op, i agree not keen

KnittedJimmyChoos · 30/01/2015 21:26

i hate tv above fireplace too.

Shakey1500 · 30/01/2015 21:26

They unplug off the wall, so no problems if it needs repairing.

We were replastering anyway so did it then. And if you wanted to do it, the wall only needs hacking out where the wires will be buried IYSWIM?

lemisscared · 30/01/2015 21:26

console yourself that they probably have stiff necks! !!

BadgersRetreat · 30/01/2015 21:26

I'm not in the UK and don't have plaster walls - they are hollow and the builders pre wired it that way as we knew the tv would have to go up there

you can get them back off the wall - they just sit on a bracket.

Sparklingbrook · 30/01/2015 21:27

Ooh no. No hacking of walls. Sad Not for a TV.

MythicalKings · 30/01/2015 21:28

I'm with whoever said walls are for art.

nemno · 30/01/2015 21:29

Our bedroom TV is an invisibly-floating miracle. It hovers across a corner at the perfect height to watch from the bed.

The sockets were put in at that height a decade before we finally got a flatscreen TV. It is brilliant. And not on a party wall.

KnittedJimmyChoos · 30/01/2015 21:29

how on earth do you hide the wires? we have one in bedroom ( sorry op) and loads of wires hanging down
