It's not just creme eggs, they've changed the chocolate for caramel eggs as well. Is nothing sacred?!

That was my thought when I chucked two Toffee Crisps in the bin - the taste just isn't worth the calories. Didn't enjoy the first one, no point in eating the others. Haven't had a Yorkie in years. Too scared to try that now and haven't bought a crème egg yet. Used to love them. The mini eggs have changed. I think it's the use of palm oil Aimlessly.

TwitterWooooo · 29/01/2015 22:04

Are crunchies made by Cadbury?
I had one last week, made my throat itch, I couldnt stop coughing and didn't finish it. Bastards!

AimlesslyPurposeful · 29/01/2015 22:09

Miaow - Perhaps the Government have stepped in. That's why our chocolate tastes like shit! Part of their anti-obesity drive.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/01/2015 22:09

Oh, the smell of Bournville... I had a student flat for 2 years in Stirchley, so I got the local train every day from Bournville station to the university. Mmmmm. (And later I worked in York and drove past the Rowntrees factory every morning. Is there anywhere left with a good chocolate aroma?
And/or, are there any decent British chocolate producers left - large enough scale to be able to find it in the supermarkets? (Green and Blacks was bought by Cadbury so that's now Kraft/Mondelez too. Sad)

BadgersNadgers · 29/01/2015 22:33

Green and Blacks was bought by Cadbury so that's now Kraft/Mondelez too

And has gone seriously downhill. Their 70% dark is bitter and gritty as though it hasn't been properly conched.

Moniker1 · 30/01/2015 09:15

No, I'm not American and never eat Hershey's stuff.

Try the new small bars of Cadburys.

Not sure why I like it, didn't eat it much previously.

The answer is not to buy the stuff you don't like, I never buy Choc oranges since they moved production to Czechoslovakia from York (I think). Quality St etc aren't what they were. Just don't buy them, even at bargain prices. They won't produce stuff that isn't selling.

The small independent choc companies will take over , hopefully.

BeverleyCrusher · 30/01/2015 09:22

I bought some bournville yesterday. Haven't had it for a while, but I remember it being an ok middle-of-the-road dark chocolate.

I wish I'd read the label. It tastes over-sweet and with the slimy, sicky aftertaste of too much Palm-oil. Even though it was on offer it wasn't worth it, and certainly not worth the calories.

That's it, I am done, no more Cadburys. Choceur all the way.

The Poster who works for Mondelez, can you tell us what the hell they are doing and why?

marshmallowpies · 30/01/2015 09:39

Bournville isn't even, technically dark chocolate - it does contain some dairy fat. I learnt this at a chocolate making workshop I went to a few years ago. Therefore it's not suitable for anyone with dairy intolerance or vegans.

Discopanda · 30/01/2015 10:37

I'm so glad they haven't got their hands on Lindt eggs. Yet.

Dakiara · 30/01/2015 11:23

Glad to hear it wasn't just me for Double Deckers and Toffee Crisps then. :'( I had some Quality Street the other day too, and the toffee ones in that were just grease, plus the strawberry creams aren't right - too hard and the chocolate didn't crack. So it's not just Cadburys alas. The one that did for me was the Toblerone change. On the plus side, the Aldi Swiss Mountain bar was a recent happy discovery! :-D

Latara · 30/01/2015 11:42

I hate the new Crème Eggs (I won't call them 'Cadbury's' because they aren't anymore!)

The chocolate has a horrible aftertaste.

I like Thornton's, also Sainsbury's & M&S's own chocolate (not sure who makes it). I do enjoy a Galaxy now & again too. And Lindt.

AimlesslyPurposeful · 30/01/2015 13:49

NO, NOT TOBLERONE!

Bastards! Utter utter bastards!

I've a bloody good mind to move to Belgium. I bet this isn't happening to the chocolate over there.

squoosh · 30/01/2015 13:54

I wonder if I'm now owned by Kraft and just haven't realised it yet.

AimlesslyPurposeful · 30/01/2015 13:59

Hmm? I think you'll have to prick yourself with a needle Squoosh and see if palm oil ooozes out.

Sallyingforth · 30/01/2015 15:29

On the plus side, the Aldi Swiss Mountain bar was a recent happy discovery!

I wish I hadn't discovered them - they are wonderful and I've eaten far too many. :(

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 30/01/2015 15:40

I'd rather pay more for "real" Cadbury's etc. Angry

Sallyingforth · 30/01/2015 16:31

But you can't. "Real"Cadburys is no longer available. You'll just have to move on.

squoosh · 30/01/2015 16:33

'Real' Cadbury's is still in rude health in Ireland. You need to find yourself a dealer.

BerniceBroadside · 31/01/2015 16:21

Irish cadburys contains now Palm oil so it's not quite the same as it used to be.

SomethingOnce · 31/01/2015 18:22

It's just fucking rude, actually, messing with our chocolate.

This.

Please tell me they haven't fucked around with Mini Eggs...

DeliciousMonster · 31/01/2015 18:32

As is tradition in my van/life, if needing fuel coincides with me having had a bad day - I get a Cadbury's boost to see me through til teatime. I hadn't had any Cadbury's choc for ages and bought one this week.

Bleurgh. Oily and slimey. Never again.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 02/02/2015 09:32

Sallyingforth Actually Aussie Cadbury's still tastes the same to me...though I know most Brits hate it... (aside from DH who always tea leafs my stash!!)

Sallyingforth · 02/02/2015 13:50

You'd better get a stock in the fridge then Degust, before they change it there as well!

TealCarpet · 02/02/2015 13:57

Another ex-Cadbury addict here!

Had a cream egg last week, I used to live them but will not buy them again. It was rubbish. Thin, tasteless chocolate and gritty filling, bleurgh!

Also had our first bag of mini eggs this year at the weekend, again will be avoiding in future, the coating and chocolate are both not as nice as they used to be.

We've swapped to Milka or Montezuma's. As someone who has to have a chocolate fix twice daily this will hopefully dent Kraft's profits sufficiently that they switch the receipes back.

I've also noticed that cadbury's stuff always seems to be on special offer everywhere, but I still won't buy it, if I'm going to stuff my face I'd rather pay a bit more and stuff it with something I actually enjoy rather than feeling "meh what was the point in eating those calories" afterwards Grin
