I started training for a new job and we are in a large group for this. Every time that the trainer is talking the same group of lads sit and talk. It's really off putting and I've tried to block them out but I carnt. A few others in the group have picked up on it too. I stayed behind and in passing mentioned it to the trainer who said he has noticed and will be sorting it tomorrow. Was ibu to say something?

No, but you are being unreasonable to ask Grin

AntiHop · 27/01/2015 21:44

Yanbu. They was rude of others to talk. You're there to learn.

Fluffyears · 27/01/2015 23:38

To have said something

MumsyFoxy · 27/01/2015 23:43

What Fluffy said. YABU because of "of".

readyforno2 · 27/01/2015 23:52

My thoughts exactly fluffy

Fluffyears · 27/01/2015 23:57

Why do people do this?

Of course you weren't unreasonable to mention it. Hmm

The trainer should have stopped them during the session. If he didn't, he wasn't doing the job he's paid for.

KurriKurri · 28/01/2015 00:23

I think you were absolutely right to say something - drives me crazy when people talk all through something when other people are trying to listen and learn. Actually I think your trainer should have dealt with it straight away when it happened -by telling the lads to be quiet. Because he's let another class go by where the people who want to listen weren't able to.

As an aside - always fun to see when the grammar Nazis will come goosestepping onto a thread - pretty quick off the mark this time, so IIRC that means those of us with a basic grasp of good manners get to down a glass of Wine

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 28/01/2015 00:24

They were really rude op. This happens during meetings and training sessions where I work all the time. So annoying! Well done for speaking up, I haven't Blush

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 28/01/2015 00:25

Oh just noticed the other helpful responses. Goosesteping grammar police indeed. Ignore them.

ilovesooty · 28/01/2015 00:34

I'd be mortified if someone had to tell me they couldn't concentrate on my training because of other people's behaviour. I'd see that as a failure on my part.

MrsGoslingWannabe · 28/01/2015 00:37

To say "of said" is quite different to writing it - can you not see how wrong that looks?

MrsGosling

...and can you not see how pompous you look?

I hope I spelt pompous correctly Blush

kissmethere · 28/01/2015 01:35

Yanbu you were right to raise the issue. It's so distracting when you're trying to make use of time and others waste it.

GretnaGreen · 28/01/2015 02:05

Mumsnet is a conversation forum, not a workplace or a school. It's so rude to pick on a complete stranger's grammar. You wouldn't do it if you'd just met the OP in person (or at least I hope you wouldn't) so why do it here?

OP YWNBU and I would not worry about it, especially if he'd noticed anyway.

zobey · 28/01/2015 06:34

Thanks all don't feel as bad now.

ithoughtofitfirst · 28/01/2015 07:08

ywnbu. You should be able to politely ask without seeming unreasonable. You'd think !

BastardGoDarkly · 28/01/2015 07:13

If you stood in a play ground with some mums you had never met, and one of them said....I should of said something...would you say Have it's have not of! no, didn't think so.

Op, you were absolutely right to say something,I hope the tutor gets it sorted for you.

ChippingInLatteLover · 28/01/2015 07:15

Some posters need to learn some manners. Go and play in pedants corner and leave posters alone. It's rude & uncalled for.

UncleT · 28/01/2015 07:55

No, people just need to speak slightly correct English and stop pretending it doesn't matter in life.

LineRunner · 28/01/2015 07:59

I think it was assertive of you to speak to the trainer.
