To shower twice a week

This post is perhaps more about hair washing than anything else.

I used to be a staunch shower-every-morning sort of person, including hair wash and blow dry. However, recent events meant I left it two days and my hair was so glossy and gleaming after I washed it that I'm keen to try again!

I'm not a particularly active person and don't get very sweaty but will freshen up particularly "smelly" areas Grin

Is this where madness lies ... Or does anybody else shower fairly infrequently? Both my parents were of the once a week persuasion!

leontine. I'm Shock at people who don't!

The most gross thing I've heard is the woman who never washes her bras, just sprays them with fabreeze! Envy

Leontine · 27/01/2015 18:30

@chipping I don't even have enough bras for 'one wear only' to be an option. I also wear jeans up to 3 times before washing them on a regular basis. Shock

Hatespiders · 27/01/2015 18:32

I would think that washing your hair every blooming day would wash all the natural oils out and it would get lank and sad-looking. Conditioner isn't the same as your own oils.
My hair is the best thing about me! The rest looks pretty ancient, but my Barnet is glossy and thick, and sort of bouncy, albeit grey. I've never had dandruff or an itchy scalp. I used to be able to sit on my hair up to the age of about 40. It was like a huge thick curtain. And at that time I only washed it once a week.
By the way, I never ever have used a hairdryer. I just let it dry naturally. I think that too helps to keep it in good nick!

wtffgs · 27/01/2015 18:47

Yuk!

I shower every day unless I'll and wash my hair every 3 days. I can't imagine getting by on less.

Szeli · 27/01/2015 18:55

gosh i think im the most lax here Blush Blush stand up wash everyday. shower or bath 3 times a week, hair wash maybe once a fortnight? it does need it by the second half of week 2 but mostly it looks absolutely fine. i have dry hair tho

Theboodythatrocked · 27/01/2015 19:11

zombie thanks am going to get some tomorrow. Smile

krystellie · 27/01/2015 19:11

Isn't it normal to wear a new bra every day?

Hair wash every third day, but body wash in the shower every day. Sometimes twice a day if I've been running/at the end, or it's hot outside.

Anything less is a bit ewww.

krystellie · 27/01/2015 19:11

Not brand new, obviously. But a clean on bra.

minimisemyshowers · 27/01/2015 19:13

I don't, although I don't always bother wearing a bra. But I don't wash them much.

I don't think there is a normal, just 'normal for you' :)

God just thinking our incredibly old teacher back in the 80s ( she had served in the war in the navy) told us all to wash our vulvas twice a day as if you don't they smell and she was billeted with a gel that didn't!

Can you imagine the hilarity of teenage girls to this!

Norfolkandchance1234 · 27/01/2015 19:17

My hairdressers are always slating me for washing my hair every day.

So it was suggested I use talc, which I now put on my parting the night before and it looks great the next day. Not so great if I just put it on in the morning, it has to be the night before. It also gives my hair more body.

anothernumberone · 27/01/2015 19:17

I wash my hair every second day. I shower daily though.

We are currently living with an adult who showers every second day and in this case it is very unpleasant. I am guessing if you asked her she would have absolutely no idea that she smells so bad but she does. She does not do any exercise of note that causes the problem it is just her normal odour after 2 days without showering. Until she arrived I would once in a while have a duvet day where I might not shower until evening after showering the previous morning now I would not do it.

Tinks42 · 27/01/2015 19:19

I bath (don't have a shower) approximately 3 times and week and thats when I wash my hair too.

It's not necessary to shower every day. It takes all the natural moisture out of your skin.

humlebee7 · 27/01/2015 19:47

This was in Elite Daily today - the science of showering why being too clean is bad for you.

I think this is true - and the people saying yuk and ewww wash their hair a lot less than me. Each to their own I say.

FightOrFlight · 27/01/2015 20:05

I wash my hair every 3-4 days. It's naturally dry, rarely gets greasy and if I were to wash it every day I'd have to dye it every damn week (semi-permanent Crazy Colour).

I used to get paranoid about it smelling (never smelt bad to me) but have been reassured by some very honest friends that it smells just fine.

Not sure what people are doing to make their hair so whiffy and greasy it needs washing on a daily basis. I can understand if you work in a chippy etc it will pick up the smells but the average office worker? Maybe you are all regular gym bunnies, sweating furiously and need to wash it after every workout. My main exercise is walking sedately, the only thing that would make me run would be a sale on at the local off licence.

I shower every 2 days and a have a couple of baths a week for relaxation purposes. I have a decent wash on the other days.

frankie80 · 27/01/2015 20:10

Those who don't shower daily stink of BO and don't realise it as they are used to their own smell or they think copious amounts of perfume/deoderant will hide it.

I've worked alongside those who only shower once or twice, so I know.

notonyourninny · 27/01/2015 20:18

I shower every other day.

luckiestgirlintheworld · 27/01/2015 20:23

I only shower when I'm visibly dirty or if I smell enough that other people would be able to smell me.
That's often about once a week.
But I'm often the skankiest one in these threads. I'm not proud. Bit I'm not particularly bothered either :)

jay55 · 27/01/2015 20:23

Use a thick headband as a hair tie, then no kinks in your hair.

VixxFace · 27/01/2015 20:25

Shower daily or twice a day.
Wash hair once a week.

RitaOrange · 27/01/2015 20:27

If you don't shower daily you smell on a scale of -stale to utterly stinking.
Who wants to smell unpleasant ?
Armpits and foofs need a daily wash so why not have a nice 2-3 minute shower rather than a minging flannel wash
Stop being so bloody lazy and have a shower.

Leontine · 27/01/2015 20:27

@frankie80 that definitely isn't true. I've been around people who haven't taken a shower in a couple of days and they haven't smelt of BO at all.

RitaOrange · 27/01/2015 20:29

Btw grew up in the 70s when there was a once a week bath.
I grew up with stinking BO as the main aroma unless you were a child-GRIM

Charlotte3333 · 27/01/2015 20:29

I shower and wash hair daily. I know it's not great for skin or hair but I do sweat. I know ladies shouldn't, they should glow and all that, but I sweat like a hairy bear so it's best for everyone I shower often.

I only bath my kids once or twice a week though, and we have friends who are horrified/repulsed by that. Horses for sweaty courses.
