Friends boiler broke down & was fixed for free within 4 days. When mine broke down, I had to apply for a loan to get it fixed & took 4 weeks.

All she's done is moan on Fb it's taken too long.

Felt like adding get a job & try paying for it yourself & then you'd have something to moan about!

Still paying off the sodding loan - how I wish I had a council house ??

And the goat Grin

applejacksauntie · 27/01/2015 12:38

Oops!

Mrsjayy · 27/01/2015 12:39

Thats a herd almost apple Grin

YesIDidMeanToBeSoRudeActually · 27/01/2015 12:42

I've got it OP, just break her legs. But then she might get a "free" car too...

Sad reflection of society where people envy other people in council housing. When I were a lass, people were snobby about council houses...not sure which attitude is worse!

Tiredmumno1 · 27/01/2015 12:43

I think she should complain about not getting a field for the herd of goats Grin

HouseAtreides · 27/01/2015 12:43

DH and I both work and we live in a council house. We realistically have next to no chance of ever owning a home. Pros and cons to everything...

StarsOfTrackAndField · 27/01/2015 12:45

If it had taken one day or 20 days or 200 days to fix her boiler, would it have fixed yours any quicker?

SouthernComforts · 27/01/2015 12:45

Goady fucker.

In my area there are council house lists that you can only apply to be on if you work. It's called working extra.

Sell your house and get on it OP what are you waiting for?

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 27/01/2015 12:46

You should try private renting OP, then you could probably find even more to moan about. Pay an extortionate amount each month and don't own anything at the end of it. I would love to be able to afford the deposit for a mortgage.

As many PP's have said, the difference is that you own your boiler. She doesn't. The person who owns it has the responsibility for repairing it. If you can't afford to pay a lump sum to repair it (and it's a responsibility you take on when you buy a house, and knew you would be taking on) you should pay a monthly amount to insure it.

ChippingInLatteLover · 27/01/2015 12:56

I want a goat. A small one please.

Siarie · 27/01/2015 13:07

I would also like a goat.

Wherediparkmybroom · 27/01/2015 13:10

Everyone should have a goat, they make great babysitters

NurseDoctor · 27/01/2015 13:11

I definitely get your frustration. One woman in particular I know who lives in council is forever moaning. Her brand new kitchen was noisy when put in (is building work ever not?) her neighbours are terrible etc. Her and her husband work and could private rent or possibly buy, they chose not to. I think it's true she has every right to live in a decent place, she does pay rent to the council. But the downsides of having this subsidised, cheaper housing is that she has less say. It's a balancing act and there are certainly pros and cons to both. I guess it's just frustrating that she expects to may less for her accommodation but have the same or better luxuries than those paying far more.

elliebooboo83 · 27/01/2015 13:20

Think people are being little bit unfair to OP,think it really depends on where you live. In the south west where I live council houses are like gold dust and you would never get one in a million years if you worked. The private rents are astronomical,we managed to scrap together a deposit and are paying £300 a month less than a private rent in the same road.
I work in council house repairs and we get people moaning if you can't get anybody within the hour!!! But then we would never leave anybody 4 days without providing another source of heating.
So living here could sympathize with a bit of council house envy, but it's the private renters here that really have it tough.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 27/01/2015 13:23

ellie we're in the SW and if we could get a deposit together we could save £600 a month by having a mortgage instead of private renting! But as our rent is so expensive we can't save for a deposit. However out boiler was fixed within 48 hours so can't complain Wink (won't mention the damp/mould/shower leaking into our kitchen that the LL has been promising to send someone out to look at since November).

I live in a HA house and they are a registered charity.
I work full time and pay my rent in time. I'm sick of people saying the government are subsidising my life.

I might just buy mine to piss you off OP Grin

Siarie · 27/01/2015 13:26

"Think people are being little bit unfair to OP,think it really depends on where you live. In the south west where I live council houses are like gold dust and you would never get one in a million years if you worked"

Well that isn't true since the only person I know who does actually have a council house lives in the South West and both work.

funnyossity · 27/01/2015 13:26

Council rents were never subsidised when I was growing up, I doubt given the state of govt finances that a new subsidy has been introduced.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 27/01/2015 13:27

You can envy a council tenant without being a dick about it.

So true. And that's what it all boils down to really. I envy a lot of people for a lot of things but don't go round being a dick about it.

'Got to 'we were lucky to have very generous family who were in a position to help,we had to jump through hoops to get the mortgage, but if we didn't get it would have had to pay so much more in private rent! And that would have been our only option, but you can't really say that to the mortgage company even if I wanted to ?? Its just so unfair here for private renters, because it's impossible to save as well as pay the high rents, people just can't get out of the financial drain that is private renting

TinkerbellaPan · 27/01/2015 13:43

OP you sound like an amazing friend and person. I bet your friend can't wait to see you so she gets to listen to your ignorant, boring moans...

NEWFLASH! There is always someone worse off than you and someone better off. Don't sit around comparing. If you aren't happy with your life and your house, do something about it!

Another shocker: some people who have CHs are arseholes, some people who claim benefits are claiming fraudulently (though not as many as the newspapers would like you to believe!), some very wealthy people are also assholes and some very rich people are incredibly entitled. Such is the world. Some people are dicks.

Life lesson 1: if you see one example of a situation, it doesn't make is so in every similar situation.

Life lesson 2: moaning all the time is very boring and unattractive and you may find yourself without any friends.

HTH Smile

Feminine · 27/01/2015 13:46

nursedoctor should the lady in question make do with sub-standard accommodation or services because she... rents from the council Shock
I am glad that 90% of posters have gently explained that op is being unreasonable. Wink

flashyballs · 27/01/2015 13:53

I also don't see this council house envy in real life, we are in a council house one of the last in our street, the neighbours aren't snobby about it at all, well they can't be really can they when they live in one that they've bought.
