Friends boiler broke down & was fixed for free within 4 days. When mine broke down, I had to apply for a loan to get it fixed & took 4 weeks.

All she's done is moan on Fb it's taken too long.

Felt like adding get a job & try paying for it yourself & then you'd have something to moan about!

Still paying off the sodding loan - how I wish I had a council house ??

All these working HA/council tenants who are complaining, why not rent privately if its so shit? The reason why is because your rent is subsidised, and for all the complaining, you have subsidised cost of living, an incredibly benevolent LL and enhanced tenants rights. You cant argue on the one hand that council rent is on a par with private (as some upthread have) and then say you have a worse deal than private renters. If this was true noone would be a council tenant at all. Theres a reason why there are queues waiting for council houses, its subsidised living.

Ive always felt there is massive societal need for council housing, its a great thing that our society provides it for those who need. The moaning on this thread really grates.

I don't think it's a council house vs private renting vs privately owned situation. I've privately rented and the landlord put in a new bathroom. I didn't whinge about the inconvenience for a couple of weeks, I was just pleased to be getting one. Likewise, as a homeowner and wanting to put a new bathroom in I was just happy to be doing it, not whinging about how long it took.

I think it's that some people are just whinge arses and will find any excuse to complain about something.

Mydelilah · 27/01/2015 21:39

Im definitely not an expert, most of what I know on this subject is on threads such as this (where everyone contributes). If its not less expensive and more stable than private renting why would anyone be a council tenant? Isnt that the whole premise of the system? Why would there be such a thing as council house envy at all? It has to be subsidised, and beneficial...

Well said MrsD Grin

Mrsjayy · 27/01/2015 22:07

Councils and Housing associations HAVE to make a
Profit they need to to run I paid full council rent for 17 years bar a few years where I got some housing benefit. Why should a paying tenant leave their home to private rent in a house where a landlord can sell the house or hike up rent for profit if anybody gets a secure tenancy they would be a fool to private rent.

Mrsjayy · 27/01/2015 22:08

And what Mrsdv said

bettyboop1970 · 27/01/2015 22:10
