When did posting pics of dc's in designer clothing become a thing?

Recently seen loads of this across a few sites eg. Leanne in her new ted baker coat, Ben in his new Gucci trainers etc, is it a thing now? All fairly young (think under 7), children in that age range I know don't really know designer names.

I feel sorry for people like this. They're obviously insecure if they feel the need to try and express their wealth through their kids clothes.

Do you mean social media sites? I've never seen this tbh. Are they actually saying what brand their child is wearing?

Actually now I think about it I just realised we put a photo up of DD and said she was wearing Docs. But that's because that's a 'type' of boot IYKWIM? Or maybe I'm unintentionally wanky....I'm honestly not sure now.

I thought cringey too & a bit superior. Yes Weeblue the actual names. I wouldn't feel the same about docs tbh, I guess I see them as a style (somewhat iconic) & quite cool.

You are right it says a lot about my online friends & acquaintances (have been guilty in the past of accepting people I know but am not friends with, sure I'm not alone there).

It's a very big thing on instagram. Some small DC have their own accounts and are photographed dressed very stylishly. They get freebies from all over, and are probably earning cold hard cash from it too.

A lot of clothing stores look for "ambassadors" (can't think of the word they use), basically kids with lots of followers with parents that can take good photo's and will wear their clothes and reference in the hastags or the @username.

But when they say designer, it's actually proper designer, gucci, hermes, marc jacobs etc...

Ted baker isn't that just a Debenhams range "designer". My DD3 bought a lovely, reasonable priced coat DGD10 (thats number 10 not age) in the sale at Debenhams. It is definetly not FB bragging rights standard.

We do sometimes put pics of DGC on FB wearing new togs usually to show purchaser who lives away that their gift is being worn but thats about it.

I've done the pics in new clothes for relatives (that have been sent as gifts) but this just seems very boasty!

I dress my daughter in designer sometimes but the don't cost the prices you think. I have bought ted baker cheaply in debehnams during sales for 80% off. I love dressing my little girl at the same time in would say am a good shopper with an eye for bargain.

Why spend £8 in primark when I buy a beautiful £35 dress in sale for that price.

I haven't seen this - but sadly don't doubt it exists. One of my wife's 'friends' (someone she went to school with) refers to her car as "the AMG" just so that everyone knows she has one.

I'd go bat shit if my wife did that. I wasn't pleased with her posting pictures of the new kitchen (she did it in a non-boastful way) though she had waited a number of years for it!

Time to re-assess who you're friends with perhaps.

Ted baker is not designer. I wear it myself and dresses are £200 not £2000.

debbriana - surely because your daughter will grow out of said dress within about six months, making the extra £27 you spent pretty useless.

I think they only time it's worth spending decent money on clothing for children is when you buy something unisex and know that you are planning on more dc in the future, as that way it will last.

No I don't. I used to have Facebook but it was pre motherhood. Her photos are no where online. I hope so. I have told family members not to post her pics.
