When did posting pics of dc's in designer clothing become a thing?

Recently seen loads of this across a few sites eg. Leanne in her new ted baker coat, Ben in his new Gucci trainers etc, is it a thing now? All fairly young (think under 7), children in that age range I know don't really know designer names.

Kaykayred I don't spend that amount. They are bought on sale. Never at full price.

HollyBdenum · 23/01/2015 17:34

Kaykayred - debbriana wasn't spending £35 on a dress. She was buying clothes in the sales so paying Primark prices for luxury clothes.

HesterShaw · 23/01/2015 17:34

Ew grim.

Glad I don't know anyone like this.

ChickenMe · 23/01/2015 17:39

Tacky. Gucci trainers are ugly and look like someone has poohed on them.

Some people just brag. I know a guy who brags about how his son wears all the labels but he and his wife live with the in laws as they are in debt and cannot afford their own place.

debbriana · 23/01/2015 17:43

Chickenme - those are the people I don't like. Why spend what you don't have? Probably it's why they are in debt in the first place. Valuing things over a roof over their head. Probably they have the biggest tv you can think off too.

StrawberryMouse · 23/01/2015 17:46

It's a bit cringey.

My dc wear quite expensive clothes sometimes but I have two of the same sex quite close in age so I don't mind the cost as clothes get passed between them and last well.

I just tend to buy what I like though, regardless of the brand. Wouldn't necessarily remember the label unless I was looking at it and certainly wouldn't feel the need to mention it on social media.

Heels99 · 23/01/2015 17:49

Yes it must be people without much money who do this. Rich people do not brag about their kids clothes, it is just the norm for them

How commen! Yeuk!

I have a friend on FB like this. I know that she and her DH are struggling to pay their interest only mortgage and have credit card debts, because she has told me. Their house is too small for her family, but they can't afford to move, or not to an area they want to live in anyway. They lease expensive new cars every year or so, have a new caravan, are always going away and going out with friends, and their children only wear designer clothes. Their two young DC (under 7) each have their own iPad. They buy new gadgets all the time and announce them on FB.

She is a lovely person, but I can't understand her priorities.

I don't know anyone who does this, but I have to say being someone who dresses up in free designer clothes and has their picture taken for Instagram would literally be my fashionista ( can you use that word for a boy) ds(5)'s dream job! This isn't our influence btw, some kids do actually like being fashionable!

queentroutoftrouts · 29/01/2015 21:03

Some people like dressing their kids up and making them look nice, what has that got to do with you and why do you even care? Just like they probably don't care about others competitive cheapness about who's clothes have been handed down the most times. What other people choose to do with their money and what they choose to post online is none of your business.

Hoppinggreen · 29/01/2015 21:20

People can spend what they want on their children's clothes ( as long as they can afford it) but boasting it about it online is very tacky

whatmess · 29/01/2015 23:43

Better than dressing them in cheap clothes made in a sweat shop. Okay so a major generalisation there, but hopefully you get my point.
People pick clothes for lots of reasons. It isn't always so they can show off and even if it was, it would be pretty boring if we all shopped in the same few places.
