To ask for your support for this poor woman?

This woman's 5yo daughter was hit by a car just before Christmas and killed. The powers that be have refused her family visas, so they cannot attend the funeral, and cannot support this poor woman.

So, AIBU to ask you to sign the petition below?

www.change.org/p/david-cameron-grant-visas-for-andrea-gada-s-family-to-attend-her-funeral-andreagada?utm_source=action_alert&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=222391&alert_id=NIqalEYHAU_jLBGuWE%2Fyz9%2B3kspYuljESFJOSK%2FlISKDK%2Fxt0RBC%2Bk%3D

Thanks in advance Smile Flowers

Bumping again. A thread like this can never hsve enough, bumps

WannaBe · 22/01/2015 16:49

the guardian link said the family themselves are refugees. The additional family members were already denied visas in October.

The death of a child is tragic. but this isn't a case of family wanting to come over for the funeral and being told "sorry, you're too poor," this case already had a back story before this little girl died.

And it's all very well offering to wear police tags etc, but in practice can you imagine the outcry over people being treated as criminals in order to attend a funeral? And given this petition, would people really be escorting the family back to the airport? or petitioning the government to allow them to stay in the country now that they're here.

Of course they want to come over to support their family members. But if they're considered a risk by the home office (which they were before this tradgedy happened) having a legitimate reason to now come here doesn't change that risk.

what about someone posting this in "chat" - lots of people browse on that board

TSSDNCOP · 22/01/2015 17:32

I'm just wondering. If the GP's were to outstay their visas how would that effect the MP as guarantor?

Wannabe so you think not letting them attend the funeral in the first place is the better solution, how so? It's just another example of how inhumane the system is.

QueenOfTheSlipstream · 22/01/2015 19:33

Signed.

no. they were ineligible to come to the UK in October before there was any talk of a funeral. The fact that a family member has died here hasn't changed their eligibility.

The criteria for entry into the UK are based on various things which I am not familliar with, but it seems that they are considered at risk of staying without leave to do so. How this conclusion has been reached we don't know. but the fact is that they had already applied to enter the UK and been refused.

ChocLover2015 · 22/01/2015 21:05

I think there is more to this than we are being told.they have been refused twice even after Dc got involved.
criminal record, poor health and will be admitted to hospital and unable to travel back?

holls2000 · 22/01/2015 21:25

done

Nancy66 · 22/01/2015 22:57

I agree with Wannabe. it isn't as black and white as people seem to think.
The Home Office can't set a precedent here, I understand that.

I really think the parents need to press ahead with holding a funeral, initially that is what the money people donated was for.

Common sense prevails - for once.

SerenaJoy · 05/02/2015 23:30

I just signed (late to the party as usual). Very pleased to see that visas have been granted though.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 05/02/2015 23:33

Good news about the visa being granted. Heart breaking that it needed to be granted though.

eachtigertires · 06/02/2015 00:08

I signed it. Granting the visa was the right thing to do.

Lemondrizzletwunt · 06/02/2015 10:51

Whoop whoop!

Thank you to everyone for their support.

Great news today!
just awful that it's taken until February for the family to be able to have the funeral.
