the guardian link said the family themselves are refugees. The additional family members were already denied visas in October.
The death of a child is tragic. but this isn't a case of family wanting to come over for the funeral and being told "sorry, you're too poor," this case already had a back story before this little girl died.
And it's all very well offering to wear police tags etc, but in practice can you imagine the outcry over people being treated as criminals in order to attend a funeral? And given this petition, would people really be escorting the family back to the airport? or petitioning the government to allow them to stay in the country now that they're here.
Of course they want to come over to support their family members. But if they're considered a risk by the home office (which they were before this tradgedy happened) having a legitimate reason to now come here doesn't change that risk.
