To intend to ask for compensation for a really bad hair cut?

Karenthetoadslayer · 14/01/2015 14:34

I am currently applying for a new job and I was desperate for a hair cut. Nothing fancy, just one inch off all the way round. My hair is straight and very easy to cut, below shoulder length.

A massive chunk has been chopped off right at the font and my hair on the right side of my face is now about three inches shorter than the rest.

The only thing I can do is pin it back on this side and curl my hair in order to hide the damage somewhat, but it still looks bad and is very noticeable.

This will take about three to four months to grow back. Short hair is not an option.

I am really upset about this. Especially as I don't need any more stress in my life at the moment. And I need to find a new job. I look like a plucked chicken.

AIBU to ask for compensation - for extensions?

YANBU, I'd do the same!

Karenthetoadslayer · 14/01/2015 14:36

The hairdresser's should have insurance, shouldn't they?

ilovesooty · 14/01/2015 14:37

Did you complain at the time?

ImBatDog · 14/01/2015 14:37

how on earth did they manage to do that?

and of course you should ask for compensation, so you can pay a decent hairdresser to at least try and improve it for you!

ShatnersBassoon · 14/01/2015 14:37

What did the hairdresser say? Was it a mistake or did they deliberately cut it that way?

ouryve · 14/01/2015 14:38

YANBU. That's shockingly bad, for such a simple cut. They should offer to put it right, somehow, of course, but I don't think I could trust a stylist that incompetent.

Karenthetoadslayer · 14/01/2015 14:39

I did not see it in the salon. I was having a bad day and I did not pay much attention, really.

I phoned them and they offered to take a look and refund the cost of the hair cut. I have an appointment in two days with the manager.

Did u make any complaint when Hairdresser first chopped it off?

Jodie1982 · 14/01/2015 14:40

Oh x post sorry!

Karenthetoadslayer · 14/01/2015 14:40

The manager has offered to try and put it right - but they cannot stick it back on, of course. I am not going to let her experiment.

OP posts:
ilovesooty · 14/01/2015 14:41

I think you should have paid attention at the time. If they've offered to take a look and refund the cost of the haircut I think that's reasonable.

Karenthetoadslayer · 14/01/2015 14:41

I think it was a mistake. It cannot be deliberate - it makes no sense.

MaidOfStars · 14/01/2015 14:43

I would definitely ask them to correct their mistake for free. Or better, give you the money to go elsewhere for correction.

Is the short bit lying next to your face? Was the hairdresser trying to cut a long fringe in? I would get them to do so, balance it on the left side and blend it into the longer length.

HelloItsStillMeFell · 14/01/2015 14:44

If it's as extreme as you say then you'd have noticed surely? Bad haricuts are annoying but honestly, I am not an out loud complainer (more of a quiet sulker) but even I would have had to say Whoah! WTF have you just done to my hair?' if there was an unintentional three inch difference from one side to the other. Are you exaggerating?

SilverShadows · 14/01/2015 14:45

I had a bad haircut, complained the next day after I'd been able to see full extend of damage.
I got the manager to cut my hair again, not in a style I particularly wanted, but one that wasn't hideous, free maintinence cuts every 8 weeks until it was back to the length it should have been before the butchering, plus I got a free HD brows treatment.

Yes it was 8 months of waiting for my hair to grow but I think the way they dealt with it was fair.
Oh and the person who scalped me was asked to leave the salon.

HelloItsStillMeFell · 14/01/2015 14:47

And yes, ask the manager to re-cut it, but I think unless they've injured you or deliberately ignored your specific instructions then you don't have much hope of actual compensation beyond the cost of the cut. the fact that you didn't 'notice' anything or complain at the time will very much weaken your case anyway.

ApocalypseNowt · 14/01/2015 14:47

Just as an FYI - hairdressers will have insurance but this won't cover a bad haircut or an unhappy customer (unless there was actual injury). Insurance doesn't provide cover for 'bad workmanship' which is what this, in essence, is.

QueenBean · 14/01/2015 14:51

The manager has already agreed to see you to help put it right and has said they'll refund the cost of the haircut. I think that's fair.

If it was so bad that it is very noticeable then you would've noticed it in the salon - I don't believe that even if you're having the worst day ever, when the hairdresser asks you to look at the cut at the end, you wouldn't have noticed a massive chunk off the side.

Sorry but it sounds like you're overreacting

SukieTuesday · 14/01/2015 14:51

It sounds like an asymmetrical bob.

ohbollocks2u · 14/01/2015 14:54

Money back to go elsewhere or the chance to put it right

Compensate you for what ?

Karenthetoadslayer · 14/01/2015 14:55

No, I am really the sort of person who pays selective attention at times. I had had a rubbish day. TBH I usually try not to look until I restyle my hair myself, so I just put my scarf and coat on.

It is bad. Not exaggerating. A large chunk is missing.

QueenBean · 14/01/2015 14:57

Photos please!

ilovesooty · 14/01/2015 14:58

They might not have done a good job but they can't be held responsible for your selective attention.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 14/01/2015 14:58

Karen what a shame and the timing sucks but see what the manager can sort out.

Karenthetoadslayer · 14/01/2015 14:59

Sukie I must pay attention not to be persuaded into an asymmetrical bob.

Silvershadows I am pleased that I am not the only person not to see this straight away.
