To intend to ask for compensation for a really bad hair cut?

I am currently applying for a new job and I was desperate for a hair cut. Nothing fancy, just one inch off all the way round. My hair is straight and very easy to cut, below shoulder length.

A massive chunk has been chopped off right at the font and my hair on the right side of my face is now about three inches shorter than the rest.

The only thing I can do is pin it back on this side and curl my hair in order to hide the damage somewhat, but it still looks bad and is very noticeable.

This will take about three to four months to grow back. Short hair is not an option.

I am really upset about this. Especially as I don't need any more stress in my life at the moment. And I need to find a new job. I look like a plucked chicken.

AIBU to ask for compensation - for extensions?

Insurance doesnt cover you. the only way it would is if you were injured (Like if you had your hair bleached and they burnt your scalp) I think you sound extremely precious tbh. They've offered a refund, What more do you want? and if you want extensions (£140+ if done by someone reputable) Pay for them yourself, They've offered you a refund, YAB extremely U to still keep on for a free lot of hair extensions.

Karenthetoadslayer · 14/01/2015 15:01

It's exactly the timing that stresses me out the most. Usually I would just shrug it off and put my hair up with a hair clamp. But it's even too short for that.

No photos, sorry Grin.

I started a thread about a shorter than expected haircut, complete with wonkily shorn sideburns Shock I got a refund, the manager did what he good to make it look better, and I will have a free cut with him. It's still shorter than I would have ever asked for, but short of a wig, there's not much you can do.

Karenthetoadslayer · 14/01/2015 15:04

Why do I sound precious Blackout? I have no time for non-performers.

Come to think of it once or twice I have missed an uneven or poorly layered cut when the stylist has spent ages drying my hair, and that was someone I'd been to for years and trusted. Only after I washed it later at home did it become obvious. Must have been too engrossed in a magazine not to look up in the mirror and see a look of horror flash across her face.

ChocLover2015 · 14/01/2015 15:05

I think sorting it out or refund is going to be all you get.For compensation you would need to prove some financial loss.

Blackout234 · 14/01/2015 15:05

Because you have been told you will have a refund yet you still want to take them for compensation of over £140. Seriously?! Overreacting and yes, precious.

Hillingdon · 14/01/2015 15:05

How on earth did they have a difference of 3 inches on either side? It sounds like a complete misunderstanding of what you were looking for...

Karenthetoadslayer · 14/01/2015 15:07

I am beginning to be serious about asking for three inch extensions. Why should I suffer from other's professional mistakes? I have to live with this for at least three months and the hairdresser will only lose the equivalent of her income for one hour's work. Let's put this into perspective.

OP posts:
QueenBean · 14/01/2015 15:08

If perspective is what you're looking for, perhaps you should read the news at the moment. That might give you some perspective.

Btw, 3 inch extensions will be nigh on impossible to look natural - you'd feel ridiculous with them in too

MrsCampbellBlack · 14/01/2015 15:08

I don't think extensions will work terribly well on just one little bit of your hair will they?

Could you get it cut into a side swept fringe or something - how long is the shortest bit?

Karenthetoadslayer · 14/01/2015 15:08

Donkeys I had Toad in the house for the day faffing around with repairs and not leaving for ages. It was a bad day.

ilovesooty · 14/01/2015 15:08

If you are so concerned about performance you'd have paid more attention at the time.
This bid for compensation just sounds grabby to me.

MrsCampbellBlack · 14/01/2015 15:09

I wonder as well if the hairdressers will think you deliberately did it yourself if you go in asking for extensions as compensation. Especially as you didn't mention it at the time.

googoodolly · 14/01/2015 15:09

I think that a refund and a free cut from the manager to try and fix things is pretty good and you'd be wasting your time to try and get more than that. If it was that bad, surely you'd have noticed at the end of the cut? They always ask you if it's okay at the end so if you didn't notice it/say anything then, it can't be as awful as you're saying now, surely?

tidytidy · 14/01/2015 15:11

Actually, a straight hair cut is one of the hardest as theres nowhere to hide mistakes.

What type of salon did you go to as it sounds like a unqualified hairdresser has cut your hair?

Karenthetoadslayer · 14/01/2015 15:11

I never had extensions, so I honestly don't know.

QueenBean I am entirely aware that this is not a newsworthy catastrophy, but a simple nuissance.

I have not really dealt with such complaints before, so I wanted to get some opinions. I am also PMS affected.

OP posts:
Karenthetoadslayer · 14/01/2015 15:13

It was a case of 'buy cheap, buy twice' unfortunately. Cheap salon. Don't ask.

Nanny0gg · 14/01/2015 15:17

My DiL is a hairdresser. She has had cuts that she hasn't noticed were truly bad until she's washed her hair and tried to style it herself. A skilled hairdresser is good at hiding cock-ups...

But sadly, I do think the best you can hope for is for the manager (or very senior stylist) to even it out/restyle it for you. Short extensions will be a disaster.

(and knowing your backstory, I appreciate this is the last thing you need at present and it's totally understandable that your mind would be elsewhere!)

Karenthetoadslayer · 14/01/2015 15:19

MrsCampbell I would ask for extensions just on that side to extend the short bits to the rest of the hair, so it's all the same length? Just an idea. But I am not sure if this is how extensions work, as I never had any.

OP posts:
MissDuke · 14/01/2015 15:19

'pms affected', 'no time for non-performers', etc - you come across as quite overdramatic to be honest. I also don't understand this - 'I look like a plucked chicken' when you just lost 3 inches off hair that is quite long? Confused

I think it is a bit like getting shortchanged - you really need to raise concerns at the time. Did they ask if you were happy or just rush you out?

Sorry but I fail to see how compensation or hair extensions will help. Sorry you are having a hard time though, perhaps this just feels like the last straw.

Karenthetoadslayer · 14/01/2015 15:20

I am beginning to see the funny side though underneath my anger Grin.
