To think "put some fucking clothes on!"

PutSomeFuckingClothesOn · 10/01/2015 21:08

or at least wrap a towel round yourself FFS.

I go to the gym five days a week, usually in the morning. Every single day without fail there will be people having a shower after their workout. I don't have a problem with this as the showers are in cubicles rather than out in the open.

My problem is is that after they've finished showering you can be sure they will then strut naked out of the shower over to the lockers without bothering to wrap a towel around themselves. They will then stand naked for a bit sorting their clothes and shit out before getting dressed. It's always the same people too.

AIBU to think they should at least wrap a towel round themselves? And get dressed as quickly as possible?

Nobody wants to see them naked!

I did mention it to reception but they just gave me a look like this Hmm.

I once saw a transgender woman/man with both genatalia in the gym. Was a bit of a shocker I'll admit but she/he (not trying to be rude, not sure!) was so comfortable roaming around the changing room naked, I thought 'bloody good for you dude - if you're comfortable, so am I'!!

paperlace · 11/01/2015 07:47

genitalia

Blu · 11/01/2015 07:56

Can I just clarify? It's 'strutting' if naked and 'walking ' if towel covered?

Chandon · 11/01/2015 07:57

It is often younger people who think bodies are for showing off (if fit) or disgusting(old/hairy/fat)

A wonderful thing about being older is that you have fewer hang-ups, hell, you can feel glad to be still here (after health scares for example).

That is why older women are often less prudish.

In my 40s now, and can see my body sagging, yet I feel happier in my skin, and less prudish.

I reckon in 10 years I'll be a proper naturist Grin

Apologies to everyone at my gym

PunkrockerGirl · 11/01/2015 07:57

YANBU. So they walk out of the shower dripping water everywhere for other people to tread/slip in? That's just inconsiderate.

As I said, yanbu, but threads like these always fill up with posters trying to out-liberal each other.

Pagwatch · 11/01/2015 07:59

I think that's right Blu.

Plus it's 'putting your make up on' if you're dressed and 'preening' if you are semi naked.

paperlace · 11/01/2015 08:01

Ha Blu - very true. Some people are perfectly comfortable being naked, they are not sashaying/strutting/showing off.

Hatespiders · 11/01/2015 08:03

PacificDogwood Yes! I think that was the name of the place! Happy memories Smile

Back in the seventies, toplessness on beaches abroad was starting to be the norm. I remember being on a beach in Spain and most of the women were topless. I was pleased to see that all types of women were enjoying this freedom. Old, young, fat, thin; and all kinds of boobs too. The Germans seemed very at home with the idea. I cast my bikini top aside and felt so free. I don't think being naked has anything at all to do with whether you have a beautiful body or a saggy, fat, old, wobbly thing like me. It's not a porn film scene, it's just human beings enjoying their leisure activities without hiding away in a cubicle or behind screens.

KidTheKidder · 11/01/2015 08:12

YANBU!

magimedi · 11/01/2015 08:18

I don't happen to think that old bodies are disgusting. We are all going to age or if not the alternative is a lot worse.

Royalsighness · 11/01/2015 08:18

YABU. Minding your own business helps loads.

Flumpf · 11/01/2015 08:31

Hatespiders You saying about being topless in Spain made me laugh, because it reminded me of my first holiday abroad. I was 14, and it was a bit of an eye opener to see so many topless people sun bathing. It didn't bother me though. But I do remember a guy who worked at the hotel walking amongst the sun beds with a tennis racket in his hand. He was calling out to see if any one wanted to take part in a tennis match. A lady was sunbathing topless with her sun glasses on, she was possibly asleep. He wobbled her boob with his tennis racket and said "tennis?". I couldn't believe he did that, but I found it hilarious.

SoupDragon · 11/01/2015 08:41

No sign of the OP...?

Sparklingbrook · 11/01/2015 08:43

They will be at the gym Soup. Smile

Hatespiders · 11/01/2015 08:43

flumpf Grin I'd love to have my boob wobbled by a man with a tennis racket!
I used to smile at the endless volleyball games on the beach, mostly Germans but some other nationalities, all topless. It's strange but after the first few hours on the beach you stopped even noticing flesh.
In a gym changing room, it's so much easier if you have the space and freedom to get dried in a communal area than cooped up in a cubicle.

I've noticed on Mumsnet people use the term 'ladygarden'. I've been smiling at that, as it's a new word for me. Rather sweet! Smile

LovelyMarchHare · 11/01/2015 08:44

Some years ago I went to a gym and there were definitely people who liked to strut around naked for longer than was normal. For example fully clothed women would be sitting drying hair/doing make up next to totally naked women doing the same. Sitting on a wooden stool not on a towel etc. I have absolutely no issue with people getting stripped to and from shower + dressing but the other stuff is just a bit 'see how comfortable I am with my nakedness'. Now, I'm sure people might say that they probably do hair and make up at home so why should they alter habits in a public changing room? But that's what we do isn't it: Adjust to fit the environment? I don't close the bathroom door at home when I'm on the loo but do when I'm in a public one.

Anyway, to the OP, YANBU, I wouldn't do it personally, I do sometimes think some people do it for attention rather than necessity but, either way, it doesn't bother me really.

Ememem84 · 11/01/2015 08:52

Doesn't bother me. I always take my towel to the gym and faff about with it trying to get changed. Sometimes I wish I could be brave enough to de-towel and get on with changing.

No issue with others being naked though.

prettywhiteguitar · 11/01/2015 08:58

Precious much ?

It's a lot easier getting dressed when you don't care if anyone sees your boobs or bum.

Why should women cover up in front if other women ?? You are being ridiculous

JessieMcJessie · 11/01/2015 09:06

LovelyMarchHare I dry my hair completely topless at the gym, though I do wrap the towel round my waist. I am not showing off (though my boobs are fabulous Wink). I have long hair and it would drip all over my clothes, and since I am moving my arms around the towel never seems to stay put if I wrap it bandeau style round my top half.

I'd have thought it was obvious that it was just a practical thing?

Pipbin · 11/01/2015 09:25

I'm naked right now!

As well as not ever going to the continent, don't have a communal bath in Japan either.

Get over it op.

Blu · 11/01/2015 09:48

LovelyMarchHare: longer than normal In your normal. Maybe they are just doing things in their normal way. Different.

Anyone who is naked more than we would be is strutting etc, anyone who likes to be naked less than others in the changing room is a 'prude' .

Nakedness or otherwise in a changing room is a victimless , harmless situation. All anyone has to do, clothed or not, is mind their own business.

PrimalLass · 11/01/2015 09:58

I bought a towel from Primark that has a Velcro fastening and shoulder straps. Solves the naked problem for me.

Yes maybe it is "socially acceptable" but I still don't like seeing it.

but can't afford private gym membership now anyway

PrimalLass · 11/01/2015 09:59

A claw hair clasp works well for keeping towels together.

HelloItsStillMeFell · 11/01/2015 10:00

YANBU. I have a couple of friends who are avid gym bunnies they are also exhibitionists and a little bit in love with themselves and they will take any opportunity to make sure we all get a look at as much of them as possible, including the bits I'd rather they kept covered up.

Still, nice that they are proud of themselves I suppose…...

Sparklingbrook · 11/01/2015 10:03

I would never think that some naked people in the gym were showing off their bodies. That has never occurred to me. Shock Do thye really think people will be all Envy?
