To think "put some fucking clothes on!"

or at least wrap a towel round yourself FFS.

I go to the gym five days a week, usually in the morning. Every single day without fail there will be people having a shower after their workout. I don't have a problem with this as the showers are in cubicles rather than out in the open.

My problem is is that after they've finished showering you can be sure they will then strut naked out of the shower over to the lockers without bothering to wrap a towel around themselves. They will then stand naked for a bit sorting their clothes and shit out before getting dressed. It's always the same people too.

AIBU to think they should at least wrap a towel round themselves? And get dressed as quickly as possible?

Nobody wants to see them naked!

I did mention it to reception but they just gave me a look like this Hmm.

Changing rooms and showers are likely to have naked people.
On the continent I've been naked in mixed saunas and showers < shrugs >
What's all the fuss ? Hmm
I've been to several gyms over the years and there is always a mixture of folk who wrap a towel around themselves and those (like me) who don't. Many of us apply our skin creams and lotions while naked, too Shock

Gyms normally ban hair removal on their premises, because it is unhygenic and manky.

BigChocFrenzy · 11/01/2015 00:30

Fiddling with, or commenting on, lady gardens is something I've NEVER observed in a gym.

PrimalLass · 11/01/2015 00:35

I hate nakedness. Mine and anyone else's.

BitOutOfPractice · 11/01/2015 00:37

I go to the gym 3 or 4 times a week. I rarely if ever see what you describe op

BigChocFrenzy · 11/01/2015 00:59

Maybe gyms with shower cubicles have a more modest clientele. Mine still has communal showers and no plans to change.

PrimalLass me too. I don't like sleeping naked even if it's very hot. Very few people look good naked.

Paratha · 11/01/2015 01:09

Very few people look good naked.

So what? Very few people look that great clothed, either.

PrimalLass · 11/01/2015 01:14

Oh I look much better clothed.

I can't sleep naked either Phaedra.

PhaedraIsMyName · 11/01/2015 01:20

Paratha Not sure what point you're trying to make with "you're so what " comment. I was simply stating my view.

Actually I tend to look pretty damned good clothed.

PhaedraIsMyName · 11/01/2015 01:22

Good cross post PrimalLass

Paratha · 11/01/2015 01:26

It's just that the fact that you think lots of people don't look good naked shouldn't have anything to do with whether people should be naked in public. So what if you don't think they look good? Should people who don't look good clothed just go around in a large portable tent? Obviously not. So whether or not people look good naked is irrelevant. Hence my "so what".

Paratha · 11/01/2015 01:28

Well, because whether or not you think someone looks good naked shouldn't really be relevant to whether or not it should be socially acceptable for them to be naked in a changing room. In the same way as whether or not you think someone looks good clothed shouldn't affect whether or not they have to walk around in a large portable tent.

Paratha · 11/01/2015 01:29

Oops - first one didn't appear to post, and I forgot exactly what I'd written and paraphrased it for my second attempt Grin

PhaedraIsMyName · 11/01/2015 01:44

Paratha did I say anything about whether it should be socially acceptable ? No I did not.

Did I say they should not be allowed? No I did not.

Did I say I demand they cover up? No I did not so I really have no idea what you're on about.

Paratha · 11/01/2015 01:50

Well, it was kind of what the thread was about, wasn't it?

Paratha · 11/01/2015 01:56

OP: AIBU to think these people should cover up?

Phaedra: Most people don't look good naked.

Me: So?

I was asking how that thought of yours was related to the OP's AIBU. You've just explained that it wasn't. Okay Hmm

cigarsofthepharaoh · 11/01/2015 02:33

I don't quite see how the "I'm not a lesbian but I don't have any problem with nudity" has any relevance. It's perfectly normal to not mind nudity without being titillated by it. And it's fairly patronising to suggest that lesbians are more likely to encourage nudity in a changing room.

OP YABU - it's a changing room, for people to change their clothes. That requires them to remove them first. Of course there'll be nudity.

chrome100 · 11/01/2015 06:38

YABU. It's a changing room ffs! Don't be such a prude.

Minesril · 11/01/2015 06:55

You're being ridiculous. Trying to get dressed under a towel when you're still half wet and you've got long hair is nearly impossible. Dry self, put hair in towel, dress self! Never had any complaints - even when I was 34 weeks pregnant. If it bothers you, don't look!!

1chanceinamillion · 11/01/2015 07:00

Ha ha BlueBrightBlue ??

OP YABU. If you don't like it don't go in the changing rooms and wear your stinking smelly clothes to work/home

Sundayplease · 11/01/2015 07:13

There is a lot of nakedness in my gym. I was surprised at first at how many women, especially older ones, let it all hang out.

I take my clothes in a cubicle and change in private because I don't feel comfortable bending over to put my socks on naked or sitting on the bench with my arse in the air to do my pants.

I must say I have been quite heartened by how well older women's bodies age.

motherofmonkey · 11/01/2015 07:19

The only time i've ever had a problem with it was seeing a lady use the communal hairdryer to dry her pubic hair! It was in a fitness first platinum too :0

GobblersKnob · 11/01/2015 07:34

Ha, (to Alan Partridge) 'We are all of us naked under our clothes Alan'

AP ' Well I'm not.....'

Pagwatch · 11/01/2015 07:46

I'm not bothered by the naked thing.

I do wish though a few of the regulars would create a slightly larger area of personal space. It's hard to look at one member of my yoga class since she bent over right in front of my face as I was putting my shoes on.

Nakedness is fine but I never had a leaning towards gynocology.
