To think "put some fucking clothes on!"

or at least wrap a towel round yourself FFS.

I go to the gym five days a week, usually in the morning. Every single day without fail there will be people having a shower after their workout. I don't have a problem with this as the showers are in cubicles rather than out in the open.

My problem is is that after they've finished showering you can be sure they will then strut naked out of the shower over to the lockers without bothering to wrap a towel around themselves. They will then stand naked for a bit sorting their clothes and shit out before getting dressed. It's always the same people too.

AIBU to think they should at least wrap a towel round themselves? And get dressed as quickly as possible?

Nobody wants to see them naked!

I did mention it to reception but they just gave me a look like this Hmm.

I hate juggling towels and I'm to short sighted to tell what other people look like.

squoosh · 10/01/2015 22:18

Modesty apron.

PacificDogwood · 10/01/2015 22:18

Only, my (German) brother was almost arrested for turning up at his (British) university's sauna in the buff Grin - there was much outrage, but in the end his explanation was accepted and he was allowed to carry on sweating after putting on some trunks.

motleymop · 10/01/2015 22:19

I think it's tremendously charitable that you 'don't have a problem' with them having a shower after their workouts.

squoosh · 10/01/2015 22:20

That sounds like he was naked while travelling from his home to the sauna. I hope that's what happened.

Only1scoop · 10/01/2015 22:21
Shock

My Finnish experience was memorable ....running in the snow and then in the Sauna. It was an eye opener ....it really was.

WestEast · 10/01/2015 22:21

I want one of those for when I'm doing my bacon sarnie in the morning squoosh

Only1scoop · 10/01/2015 22:22

I shall don my Modesty Apron whilst on this thread....Smile

Paratha · 10/01/2015 22:22

Go and find out what gymnasium means Grin

PacificDogwood · 10/01/2015 22:22
Grin No, he was 'only' naked from the changing room to the actual sauna. But that was enough…

I love 'proper' saunas with snow or a hole in the ice in a lake.

UptheChimney · 10/01/2015 22:22

Interesting to note some of the ageism on this thread ...

UptheChimney · 10/01/2015 22:24

there are never naked strangers around me. I make sure of it

Scary

BigRedBall · 10/01/2015 22:24

Best comment of the thread:

Maybe they can't afford a towel/have sensitive skin/forgot to take a towel and have to air dry?

Can't afford a towel HAHAHAHAHA

Hatespiders · 10/01/2015 22:25

The 'modesty apron' was just a square piece of cotton about the size of a man's hanky, with two tapes on the top 2 corners. You tied it round your waist like a pinny.
I think this bath house was in Byres Road (in Glasgow), but as it was fifty years ago I may be wrong. However, these types of bath houses were set up by the Victorians all over in large cities.
What I enjoyed was the dear old grannies who were so gentle and kind and helped me wash my waist-length long hair and scrub my back for me!
I like your photo sqoosh Grin

Eastpoint · 10/01/2015 22:26

OP were you one of the two grey haired ladies who commented on my naked body when I was drying after my shower yesterday? I was rather surprised as generally women in their 70s are relaxed about nudity.

Sparklingbrook · 10/01/2015 22:26

TBF it just so happens none of my day to day life involves seeing anyone naked apart from DH. I just prefer it that way.

Where's the ageism?

wickedlazy · 10/01/2015 22:28

I think op sounds a bit prudish. And maybe a bit envious?

PacificDogwood · 10/01/2015 22:29

HateSpiders, the Western Baths?
There are still some bathhouses like that in Glasgow, but they are £££ Sad

Babycham1979 · 10/01/2015 22:34

YABVVU!

Haha! You sound like an utter weirdo, OP. Sorry.

People getting changed in changing rooms? Showering naked? How very dare they?!

Maybe you should avoid gyms, or go back to the 1880s.

RedSoloCup · 10/01/2015 22:34

Not being nude is such a British thing, most other countries are more open to it, personally I don't do it as I'd be embarrassed as others don't but people in other countries would find it weird!

BlueBrightBlue · 10/01/2015 22:43

If I had the perfect body I might be inclined to not feel self conscious .
I don't have an issue with nakedness in the gym or any other changing room. I am not the least bit disturbed by the variety of bodies on show.mum's, usually older ones who love to

Every one of is unique and normal.

I too dislike exhibitionism, there are a few yummy mummy's who like to make a big thing of whopping out their titties for prolonged periods to tell the rest of the world they are the only women on the planet to feed their infant's au natural.

BlueBrightBlue · 10/01/2015 22:45

Oh dear, that was a bit of a cock up wasn't it.

mausmaus · 10/01/2015 22:49

have been in a proper sauna over christmas.
sauna was a little hut next to the beach of the baltic sea. outside temp -2 degrees.
was quite surreal walking starkers to the water for a quick dip amid the heavily clothes dog walkers on the beach :o

squoosh · 10/01/2015 23:41

It would be great if we could become more comfortable with nudity in this country but I can see problems arising. As British people are so polite it would result in inappropriate compliments in the sauna or changing room. 'Don't you have lovely labia, very fleshy', or 'aren't your nipples a lovely shade of pink today'.

mrsfuzzy · 10/01/2015 23:59

i'm not a lesbian [not that i have problem with it, but i would rather be around other naked women if i had to be, let's be honest women are alot 'neater made' the slight of mens pricks hanging down, urgh, not so nice, had to smile at the lady sorting out her lady garden though !
