To think "put some fucking clothes on!"

or at least wrap a towel round yourself FFS.

I go to the gym five days a week, usually in the morning. Every single day without fail there will be people having a shower after their workout. I don't have a problem with this as the showers are in cubicles rather than out in the open.

My problem is is that after they've finished showering you can be sure they will then strut naked out of the shower over to the lockers without bothering to wrap a towel around themselves. They will then stand naked for a bit sorting their clothes and shit out before getting dressed. It's always the same people too.

AIBU to think they should at least wrap a towel round themselves? And get dressed as quickly as possible?

Nobody wants to see them naked!

I did mention it to reception but they just gave me a look like this Hmm.

Yes, exactly, Hazle. That's nuts. And unhygienic.

PhaedraIsMyName · 13/01/2015 09:27

I think there are other reasons they have chemicals in pools.

Pipbin · 13/01/2015 09:33

Dihydrogen monoxide for a start.

OnlyLovers · 13/01/2015 09:33

Phaedra, yes, but showering with your swimming costume on is still unhygienic.

HazleNutt · 13/01/2015 09:34

chemicals are used to keep water clean. And if people using it are not clean, they obviously need to use more.

HazleNutt · 13/01/2015 09:36

um..dihydrogen monoxide is water.

ElphabaTheGreen · 13/01/2015 09:40

Grin H2O. Yep, two hydrogens (dihydrogen), one oxygen (monoxide) equals water.

Someone on another thread recently was fretting about the terrible effects of the chemical silica in her PFB.

Erm, sand you mean?

I'm a member of a popular hotel gym/pool, and it can get very busy with children at weekends. I don't use the pool much but do use the gym to run and work out, and I get quite sweaty. When I get changed out of my gym gear to go shower, I don't wrap myself in a towel to walk from cubicle to shower because my skin is sweaty and don't want to be left with a sweaty towel. I would be horrified to think that anyone thinks I'm "strutting around naked". I'm walking to the shower.

IMHO people look utterly ridiculous fumbling around under towels trying to get changed, getting knickers on backwards and struggling with bra fastenings with one hand. Life is far too short. And if there are little boys in there with their mums, why should that make me act differently? The sight of my body isn't going to strike them blind.

Besides, everyone has a body. I don't get what is wrong with them? My OH says that men always walk around naked in the male changing rooms and tend to use the hair dryers to air dry their bodies......

JessieMcJessie · 13/01/2015 09:51

Pretty sure Pipbin was joking Grin.

Pipbin · 13/01/2015 09:51

I know that Nutt.

HazleNutt · 13/01/2015 09:52

ah sorry didn't notice it was you!

lavenderhoney · 13/01/2015 09:53

I hope they have a flip flops on or something:)

I used to shower then wrap a towel round myself and head for my locker. And then put body lotion on. Bottom first then bung on some pants, drop the towel and do the rest. I didn't in the shower because people might be waiting to use it.

I didn't notice naked people apart from the ones starkers doing their full hair and make up naked right by the door- but I got over myself eventually:)

ResponsibleAdult · 13/01/2015 10:22

I'm with Lavender. I walk from the pool in swimming costume, I have my towels in my hand. I shower, nude, in the cubicle, dry myself off in shower cubicle, wrap towel around my body and another around my head. I return to my locker. Apply lotion to lower body, put on pants, drop towel, apply lotion to top body, get dressed.

The towel is to keep me warm maybe should be working out more and sweating more .

I have no issue with others nudity, or others with reluctance to be nude in changing rooms. There are changing cubicles for those who would prefer to maintain their modesty, and more toilet cubicles if those are busy.

I do, however, have an issue with the nekkid lady who insists on putting on a plastic glove, raising her leg onto the bench and applying her piles cream liberally in full view of everyone, whilst conversing with collegues.

There are some things you don't need to see.

OnlyLovers · 13/01/2015 10:38

This is exactly it. That's why I take offence at the language of 'strutting', 'parading' etc that so often appears in discussions on this subject.

CaptainVasiliBorodin · 13/01/2015 10:53

Can’t say I am too fussed with other gym users wondering about naked, it’s a changing room, you kind of expect to see other peoples bits on show, it would be a bit pathetic if we were all expected to hide under three towels while changing just in case someone else gets offended by your arse cheek.

That said I do object to the bloke in my gym who insists on standing in front of the mirror drying himself with the hairdryer, watching his cock spin around like a drunken wind turbine is a bit disconcerting and unnecessary.

guitarosauras · 13/01/2015 10:55

This is hilarious!

Op, are you jealous?

My body isn't show off material but I'd never hide it, it's just skin.

OnlyLovers · 13/01/2015 10:59

watching his cock spin around like a drunken wind turbine is a bit disconcerting and unnecessary. Grin That sounds quite funny to me, TBH.

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 13/01/2015 13:47

The being naked wouldn't worry me, the slopping from the shower and standing in a puddle while they faffed around would.

PhaedraIsMyName · 13/01/2015 13:59

Phaedra, yes, but showering with your swimming costume on is still unhygienic

As I said in the years when I felt obliged to use vile municipal swimming pool nudity was actually prohibited in the changing rooms and showers. Oddly the population of Edinburgh survived.

Now it doesn't matter as vile, noisy, public swimming pool is my idea of hell anyway.

OnlyLovers · 13/01/2015 14:04

Oddly the population of Edinburgh survived.

Ooh how sarcastic. And it just stands to reason that you can't wash yourself thoroughly with a costume on. No, it might not kill you, but personally I'd rather be able to soap up all of myself, not just the bits revealed by a cozzie.

MERLY, sorry but I'm not sure what you mean by 'the slopping from the shower and standing in a puddle while they faffed around would.' (apologies if I'm just being dim).

PhaedraIsMyName · 13/01/2015 14:05

I haven't said anything of the kind however I stick by my views that very few people look good naked and most are not particularly pleasing to the eye.

I'm extremely puzzled by people claiming total nudity allows their children to appreciate people come in all shapes and sizes.

Fortunately the utter tedium of swimming in public pools is off-putting enough. I've never been in a gym and never will be.

PhaedraIsMyName · 13/01/2015 14:07

No, not sarcastic- just pointing out that this is a relatively new phenomenon so all the huffing and puffing about it being unclean seems a bit unnecessary.

BlessedAndGr8fulNoInLaws4Xmas · 13/01/2015 14:08

Why on earth is it unhygienic to shower with your costume on?!

Most people go home and shower/bath within 24 hours anyway!

BlessedAndGr8fulNoInLaws4Xmas · 13/01/2015 14:11

Responsible adult I think you hit the nail on the head ... There are just somethings you don't need to see.

I spend my life as nurse trying to preserve others dignity and it amazes me just how many don't bother to have a shred of dignity in changing rooms !

PhaedraIsMyName · 13/01/2015 14:13

Blessed I don't think it is really although it seems to have been taken as a given on here. I think some are referring to the shower beforehand and meaning unwashed, grimy bodies must be washed before entering the pool.
