To think "put some fucking clothes on!"

or at least wrap a towel round yourself FFS.

I go to the gym five days a week, usually in the morning. Every single day without fail there will be people having a shower after their workout. I don't have a problem with this as the showers are in cubicles rather than out in the open.

My problem is is that after they've finished showering you can be sure they will then strut naked out of the shower over to the lockers without bothering to wrap a towel around themselves. They will then stand naked for a bit sorting their clothes and shit out before getting dressed. It's always the same people too.

AIBU to think they should at least wrap a towel round themselves? And get dressed as quickly as possible?

Nobody wants to see them naked!

I did mention it to reception but they just gave me a look like this Hmm.

I was once the cause of a lot of raised eyebrows in a German steam room for wearing a swimsuit!!!

If I hadn't been there first I'm sure they would have refused me entry. As it was they just sat around with their legs spread/bollocks out etc and (I suspect) sniggered at me for being a prude.

I would never expose myself like them. Its the sort of thing I have nightmares about. But I know that's my problem, I'm quite jealous.

SirChenjin · 11/01/2015 22:30

Of their bollocks - or attitude to nudity? Grin

expatinscotland · 11/01/2015 22:40

'I cannot believe this fred is still going - Bridge St or not!
Strong opinions, I see, on either side of the arsecrack divide.'

Me, neither.

People have bodies. After they wash them in the shower at the gym, some of them go nude to their locker.

Okay.

YANBU
I hate it at the pool for kids swimming lessons when this happens - have boys 4 and 6 so they come in female changing and women strutting around naked when they KNOW it's after school swim lesson time - cant send little boys in mens on own and just wish they'd cover up when kids around.

daisychain01 · 12/01/2015 03:00

I shower in my clothes.

Eastpoint · 12/01/2015 06:08

Tara49 Do your children see you naked?

BIWI · 12/01/2015 07:13

Where are these gyms with all these naked women strutting around, flaunting themselves in front of small boys?!

You do realise the implication of your post is somewhat unsavoury, don't you, tara49?

HellonHeels · 12/01/2015 08:51

WTF? It's a women's changing room and you expect women to cover up in it so your boys don't have to witness naked women?

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/01/2015 08:58

Hoe are people supposed to get changed without taking clothed off???

ffs dp you want your kids feel bodies are something to be ashamed of.

PacificDogwood · 12/01/2015 09:00

I am acutely aware that my body is the only female body my boys normally see, so seeing a variety of other female shapes would be welcome IMO.
A few minutes in a female changing room might be just the ticket for that Smile

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/01/2015 09:12

tara

how do you feel about your kids seeing naked men in the male changing room?

Mintyy · 12/01/2015 09:22

This wins the prize for the most bonkers/entitled/clueless/wtf post I think I have ever seen on Mumsnet.

HazleNutt · 12/01/2015 09:36

I'm from Northern Europe, currently living in Western, and I go to a very international gym. It's quite fascinating to see which members are from Anglo-American countries - the ones who get dressed under their towels, or even go to shower cubicles fully clothed, to undress and dress there (must be getting all wet?)

I feel quite bad for them, can't be easy to first do all that, and then also be uncomfortable when everybody else around you is naked. But that's the way things are over here - there are also big signs up that you should NOT wear swimming costumes in saunas.

Sparklingbrook · 12/01/2015 09:38

Presumably DHs and DPs take 4 and 6 year old daughters into the Mens' changing rooms where there are naked men everywhere? Or do they? I only have boys.

Sallyingforth · 12/01/2015 10:00

Tara WTF?
Just for once I'm actually lost for words.

NewYearNewBrie · 12/01/2015 10:23

OP you're very strange. but there's a lot of people like you. I went into the changing rooms (female) at a swimming baths near me - I was told off for going around naked because someone's little boy had seen me! This is why I liked the other one I went to where it was all adults, i absolutely love being naked as it's more comfortable than being clothed - so I'm really not bothered at all. I get out of the shower, get dry, get dressed. I never got told off then - its strange for 19 year olds like me to "strut around" as you put it in the buff - i couldn't care less. we all have bodies.

UptheChimney · 12/01/2015 14:30

women strutting around naked when they KNOW it's after school swim lesson time

Again the prudish judgemental language. Women getting changed is 'strutting around' Hmm-- that's pretty close to slut-shaming. What are you teaching your boys? At ages 4 and 6, why are you teaching them that women should be ashamed of and cover up their bodies?

PhaedraIsMyName · 13/01/2015 01:52

Do they ? I only had a boy. I'd have thought very odd if I'd had a daughter for her to go into the men's changing room.

I haven't been in a public municipal pool for decades. When we did go to the Edinburgh Commonwealth pool there were single sex changing areas and signs saying there was no nudity permitted in the shower area , which was also single sex.

We did have membership at the pool at our son's school and was last there maybe 8 years' ago. It was the same. It didn't have the notice re no naked showering but I never saw anyone showering naked.

PhaedraIsMyName · 13/01/2015 01:56

Sorry meant to say single sex changing area with cubicles. Women were not naked in the changing area.

PhaedraIsMyName · 13/01/2015 01:59

"Decades" makes me sound prehistoric. I'm talking about 1990-95.

PhaedraIsMyName · 13/01/2015 02:10

I am acutely aware that my body is the only female body my boys normally see, so seeing a variety of other female shapes would be welcome IMO

Why? They can see all around them every day that people come in all shapes and sizes. Putting clothes on doesnt magically transform me into a lithe , toned ,5' 8", size 8 from the chubby,5'4" size 14 I really am. There's a limit to the power of magic knickers.

Butterflywings168 · 13/01/2015 02:53

Hahaha - am reminded of when, in my early 20s, some friends and I decided to go on a girls' break in eastern Europe, and went to a spa...we were all Shock that you were not allowed to wear swimming costumes in the saunas etc. Thankfully it was quite touristy and the locals appeared used to Blush prudish Brits. I have since grown up.

SoupDragon · 13/01/2015 07:07

I'd have thought very odd if I'd had a daughter for her to go into the men's changing room.

Where do you think fathers take their small girls to change then? Very few places offer family or mixed changing areas.

Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2015 07:37

I am a bit lost. Confused

HazleNutt · 13/01/2015 08:08

What's the point of showering with your clothes on? You can get a little wet, you can't get yourself clean though, especially certain areas. That's why they need so many chemicals in pools.
