AIBU to wish I never bought a house next to a dog family

We Have recently brought a home and next door have two doors their a young could not that matters I suppose however 3 months in the dogs are becoming a issue

We did ask about them however they had only moved in themslefs so owner could give us no back story

To be fair the dogs the had were fine and made little noise german Shepard and grey hound but they have just got a new dog a it yaps all frigging night last week it woke baby at 2am and she pretty much didn't fall ball asleep till 6am I was on the verge of tears I was so tired and dh had to book the day off work because he wasn't fit to drive he was to knackered

I did go over and sk about the dog and kept it friendly and light as I could but really and truly they can't stop a dog barking that what dogs do he's barking now and it's driving me nuts and I don't want to have a massive fall out over this

Also there garden whitch is currently more poo than grass it's their garden but surely as soon as it starts to get warm it will stink to high heaven

They have a baby as well btwConfused

However dh did point out to me that my sister brought a home next to a lovely old lady who didn't have dogs she was putt in a home four years later and she now lives nex door to somone who dog walks for a living and has loads of dogs at her home

But next time we move I think I will at least try and start off with no dogs next door btw they are actually really nice to talk to I don't want to make out their some chav types it's just their dogs that's got my goat

You could try Environmental Health for the poo situation and maybe RSPCA about things in general. I hope it improves!

What do you expect them to do? Get rid?

If they came over when your baby had been up all night crying and said that your baby had kept them up what would you do? Nothing.

They are allowed dogs, they are allowed to leave poo everywhere if they desire. There is nothing you can do and I don't see what a massive fallout would do other than make it more awkward.

Are you expecting them to get rid of their dog?

That sounds awful - you have my full sympathy. Nothing worse than broken sleep, especially when you have a small baby.

I don't think living next to a dog is necessarily a recipe for disaster. Our dog doesn't bark, and we clean up all her poo immediately. I can't understand why anyone wouldn't.

I would call the council environmental people for advice if I were you. They might be able to help as I'm sure a dog barking all night long is as bad as a loud party! Maybe they could offer ways to address the neighbours about the problem. I did this years ago and the council wrote to the neighbours who then kept the dog inside at night for a while. It did not however help with neighbourly relations Hmm

I used to fantasise at night about shooting/poisening th ebloody things and I am in no way a dog hater Blush

Do they seem generally reasonable people apart from the dogs?

It is the next day baby cried pretty much the whole day due to being so tried I was quite weepy myself didn't get a thing done I have never had a dog so wouldn't even know if their is actually anything they can do the older dogs seem to be fine it's just since they have got this new one but the poo thing has been going on for a wile now

If the barking is too much you can try your council but you will have to be very hot on it, they will send you a diary to fill out and send back after 2 weeks. What normally happens though is the sound whatever is it stops for a few weeks or gets to a liveable stage then you end up needed to report all over again. The council have the right to issue fines upto £5,000 and then if it still continues to remove the offending item (in this case the dog) from the property. If they are council tenants they could also be evicted.

If they Only just got this dog it could be seperation anxiety which with work can improve but they need to know what their doing to help solve it.

I have read your post and still don't get what you actually want them to do.
The yappy dog will stop yapping once it's settles I assume.
The poo - if it causes you a smell issue then tell them and/or report it.

If it's a new dog I'd have thought they will be trying to train it.

It's awful though, my neighbours dogs drive me nuts too.

Your husband took a day off work because he didn't sleep because of a dog? After one bad night? sorry but we've had a nonsleeping dd night after night andmy dh wpuld never stay off. I'm guessing he's not self emloyed love?Hmm

You will probably find that the first good weekend in march will be like garden force next door as they clear the winter damage! The new dog will settle down, if you call the RSPCA or council you will fall out! We dog lovers are a breed....I dislike next doors 5, rude, horrible kids running screaming past my front door at 11 at night all summer, I hate the dope smoke coming over the fence into the living room and the random people at all times of night, I also detest her psycho new bf ( whole thread on that one) give me a yapping dog and a bit of poo any day! Fingers crossed their new addition will calm down and I will get my exchange go through today! Best of luck,

Dogs generally sleep at night too so you will find it should settle down.

You have every right to feel pissed off. Maybe they could move it to a different part of the house until it does?

Just because it's there garden doesn't mean they can leave it as it can be a health hazard to others

The problem isn't the dogs. It's either that they are letting the dogs out at night so that all the neighbours can hear the barking, or that the walls are too thin. If the dogs are kept in and you can still hear them, maybe you should look into getting soundproofing.

As someone who lives next door to people with four dogs who are never walked you have my sympathy. And yes, the poo will stink to high heaven in the summer, meaning you won't want to sit in your own garden and there will be flies everywhere Sad

wow, I am surprised that someone had to take a day off after a sleepless night. People all over the world have sleepless nights for many reasons and still manage to get to work. I understand you are tired and upset, but the dog will settle and life will get better.

From a purely practical POV and for your sanity get some ear plugs - the ones like bluetack that are sold for swimmers are comfy and pretty good re noise reduction for a couple of quid.

I think you are a sleep deprived and it is making you a bit sensitive to the noise. In winter with the window shut dog noise in your house is not going to be that loud. Is your baby unsettled for a different reason? How old are they?
The earplugs are a good idea, either you or your husband could wear them so that one of you still hears your baby.
Hopefully the new dog will settle down and not bark as much.

I'm a childless dog owner and I don't think you are being unreasonable at all!

Neighbours should not have to put up with all-night barking or the stink of built-up poo, FGS. People like this give responsible dog owners a bad name.

Go over and talk nicely to them again. Tell them you have a new baby and you're already sleep-deprived, and the smell from their garden drifts into yours. (I'd be mortified if someone told me this, but I'd do something about it!)

It's not true that you can't stop a dog barking. You might not be able to eliminate it altogether, but you can certainly reduce it from that level. Exercise the dog more, give it more attention, and let it sleep inside.

My dog slept outside for one night last week, and she went silly barking her head off at 3 a.m so that's it, she's back inside from now on because I don't think it's fair on my neighbours.
