To have refused to let them use a ouija board in my house

We had some friends over for new year and one night they got out a ouija board. I'm scared off them (never done one so don't know why) and point blank refused to let them play it in my house (nicely). I was telling my cousin about this today and she said I'm a right wuss! I know it's my house and I can refuse but do other people have the same kind of fear with this sort of thing?

Its a game. You do know 'operation' isn't a real man, and buckeroo is a plastic mule right? Ghosts aren't real. Yabu.

YANBU they may be 'fake' or whatever but why take the chance in your home!? If they want to do it tell them to not be wuss and go and do it in the woods or an abandoned mansion

I think that if you tend to believe in ghosts, mediums, psychics etc then the idea of talking to the dead would be quite scary for you.

If you tend to not believe in those things then a ouija board would just be seen as a game.

I'm a sceptic, I don't believe in woo, and there's no way I'd let anyone use a oujia board in my house.

Well, YANBU in the sense that it's your house, so you have the right to refuse people. However, YABU if you wouldn't have refused to let them play any other toy (which is what a ouija board is.)

I wouldn't either. Having used one as a teenager and it was unpleasant.

Whether you 'believe' or not, it will cause disagreements, someone will be upset/scared, someone will be scathing... it's just not a 'fun game'.

Your fear of them is U. But it's no more U to say no to people bringing out a ouija board than it is to say no if someone brought Monopoly to your home and tried to get everyone playing it. After all, if you liked Monopoly you'd have your own...

YANBU - it might have been just a game, but I wouldn't want anybody meddling with anything remotely connected with the Occult in my house either.
