asking if anyone else has a demanding cat?

emms1981 · 04/01/2015 11:17

I have 2 cats, 1 pretty much lives on my sons bed comes down to eat and asks to go out sometimes and inbetween scratches my sofa.

The other one that I got from the cats protection May before last won't leave me alone,
From the moment I get up she crys for food, I feed her then she's under my feet meaowing, I've stood on her foot or tail more times than I can remember because she's always behind me, I trip over her coming down the stairs.
If I sit at the computer she's on my lap, that's fine I don't mind a cuddle but she keeps digging her claws in my legs, I chuck her off and she's up again. That will happen 3 or 4 times.
She sleeps on my bed every night I don't get much say in that but she takes up my space and I'm bent round her.
I love her to bits but grr.

My neighbour chuckles at our oldest. If you ask the cat what he'd like for Christmas he says, "Laptop!" Honestly, he does. Clear as anything. Dh says he must be on FB!

MyAcheybreakyBones · 04/01/2015 12:29

I have a kitten of 4months and she is a soppy cat, demands constant petting and will sit/sleep on me day and night.
Meaows at me as soon as I'm in the door, telling me off for leaving her and demanding I sit down probably.

exWifebeginsat40 · 04/01/2015 12:30

mine perfected plucking carpets bare at 3am when she was just a tiny kitten. she is nearly 8, and now it's just me and her here, i always have food down for her and for the first few months she was good as gold.

now a switch seems to have been flicked and suddenly 4.30am is time to shred the bedroom carpet. the carpet that was laid 6 weeks ago by my landlord. i am at the end of my tether.

and then she curls up next to me and purrs and i forgive her.

HeyheyheyGoodbye · 04/01/2015 12:31

Mine are very needy. They always want to be where we are, involved in whatever we are doing, and demand constant cuddles, attention and fuss. I love it Grin

MrsTawdry · 04/01/2015 12:31

Hate I want to hear it! Grin Ours says "no" when you ask him if he wants to go outside! He always answers back when you speak to him.

Hatespiders · 04/01/2015 12:37

Achey you make me wish we could have more kittens. I always get them in pairs (litter mates usually) as they entertain each other and feel more secure cuddled up together when small. But Siamese are about £300 each, and 5 cats would be too many in this tiny bungalow. Also one has to consider vet's bills and food etc. And when we travel to Africa, my poor neighbour would be swamped with 5 to look after.
What I like most is when I'm cooking and the three of them sit in a row on their big bed, front legs folded, watching the action like spectators at Wimbledon. When I get the meat out of the oven, the Cats' Chorus starts. They're saying that they might just let us have a tiny bit, but the rest is all for them. (Which is what generally happens!)

WellWhoKnew · 04/01/2015 12:41

I have a silver snow bengal - which means all the noisiness of a Siamese, crossed with the high octane, low patience threshold of a rabid dog. She is a permanent attachment to me which means I cannot do anything without her permission.

The other cat is a bit thick. But nice to look at.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 04/01/2015 12:43

We have glacier cat who slowly inches himself on to your knee. (He's doing it now) then up to your chest with his paws on your shoulders and his drooly mouth an inch from yours. But move slightly and this is a signal for fooooooooood and he hurtles like redrum into the kitchen. He is a dick.

CoolCat2014 · 04/01/2015 12:50

I used to, but she passed away a couple years ago. She was like my shadow, couldn't stand to be alone. Would try to sit on my lap when I went to the loo Confused. I miss her, but don't miss the neediness!

Tiptops · 04/01/2015 12:53

Make the most of your demanding cats. I had to have my clingy, adoring cat suddenly and unexpectedly PTS less than a week ago and the gap she has left behind is indescribable.

I sometimes used to wish for some alone 'me time' but now I'd do anything to have my dedicated little cat back. Indulge them while you can.

MyAcheybreakyBones · 04/01/2015 13:07

I forgot to add my kitten will also sneak up beside your dinner plate and try to knock off or pick up food off your plate.
Last night I was eating a chicken drumstick by hand and she literally trymied to swipe off me.
I do love the wee rodent.

MyAcheybreakyBones · 04/01/2015 13:10

Sorry to hear that tiptops iv lost a lovely cat before too

skittycat · 04/01/2015 13:11

I have three clingy cats - all three need to me near me and cuddling me at all times and seem to enjoy tripping me up. I frequently wake up with them all crushing me.

Then there's the Bengal. Doesn't much care for love and hugs, but if she's bored or feeling ignored then you definitely hear about it... She's needy in a very different way.

I would be devastated without them tho.

emms1981 · 04/01/2015 13:20

Sorry to hear that tiptops, I lost my dog a few years back she sadly had to be pts went down hill very quickly and I wasn't there for her, she lived with my dad as I had left home and got married etc but I still thought of her as mine we had her from a baby, my dh dad and brother took her to the vets and I never got to say goodbye, we had 2 cats from when I was a baby up till about 14 so I grew up with them and was very hard for me when they passed.

My cat is the same. I pop a blankets on my legs to stop the claws getting through nd let him snuggle in ??

Tiptops · 04/01/2015 13:27

Thank you myachey and emms

My cat also went downhill very quickly which in a sense is better for her, but a terrible shock for me. She went into the vets for exploratory tests but the vet called to say it would be kinder to let her pass away there and then while under GA. I've lost pets before but because she was so clingy this is all the more heartbreaking.

Hatespiders · 04/01/2015 13:53

tiptops so sorry. You must be very sad. Flowers

I've said goodbye to so many over the years, and every time I grieved deeply. Each one was loved to pieces and the ache in my heart was always unbearable. The trouble is, even if they grow old in your care, their little lives are so much shorter than ours, and you're forced to say goodbye.
I have a large box of photographs of all my dozens of cats from way back, but I hardly dare look at them or the tears start. My all-time best was Simpson-Samson, a sealpoint Siamese. He truly was my soulmate and we were always together. He honestly did know my thoughts and we loved eachother very much. I thought I'd never get through it when he was pts in his old age (15), frail and skinny with a heart condition, it had to be. Maybe he'll be waiting for me with all the others if I ever get to heaven.
I bet God will say, "Thank goodness you've arrived. These blooming cats are driving me bonkers! They've pissed all over my throne and the angels are threatening to go on strike!"

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/01/2015 14:07

Mine doesn't like it if we are away overnight. She shits on the bed in protest. The vet recommended Feliway, as he thought she was highly strung. She didn't like that either, and shat right next to the diffuser until we got rid of it.

The other one is very needy. He sleeps on my feet, and if I roll over, he will pat the duvet until he finds my foot, sighs and goes back to sleep with his paw on my foot. He is also incapable of jumping onto the bed and has ripped all my sheets, as he desperately tries not to fall off.

Tiptops · 04/01/2015 14:07

Thank you hatespiders Flowers

It is unbearable and I can't see a way forward at the moment. Your relationship with your Siamese cat sounds very similar to the one I had with my little cat too. She wanted to spend every minute of every day with me, I am a pro at doing chores with a cat scooped up in one arm and managing with my other one! She also knew me so well, I never would have been allowed to cry this much if she were here, she simply wouldn't allow it. She hated to see her family upset, she would sit on your chest as close to your face as possible then alternate between licking your face and lightly tapping it with her paw. Amazing intuition.

Sorry, am taking over the thread a little here. But please everyone with demanding cats, indulge and enjoy them while you have the opportunity. I know it can be wearing but one day you'll long for these days. Smile

ithoughtofitfirst · 04/01/2015 14:12

.

AlpacaStockingOnChristmasEve · 04/01/2015 14:45

I have learned that the only safe way to eat dinner, if it something that the alpacats decide looks really nice, is to pour a small amount of biscuits in their bowls - which are in the hallway - then pick up my plate and casually stroll into the other room. I then call out 'mummy loves you!' And shut the door.

If I don't follow this plan, I get 'sad cat face' from inches away, and beseeching paws on my legs. Occasionally one cat will climb into my lap and the other will steal from my plate when I move it to stop cat1 from sitting in it.

I love the little bastards though...

Hatespiders · 04/01/2015 14:51

Ithoughtofitfirst are those hilarious photos from 'I Can Haz Cheeseburgers'?
I do love that site, they have some really funny captions.

EatDessertFirst · 04/01/2015 15:23

I have one 'put my food down, don't you dare look at me and fuck off cat ' aka OldDessertCat (there are previous threads). And I have one soppy, dribbly, squealy moggy who is constantly underfoot, cries to go out then cries to come in. My solution, chuck them both in the garden and let them back in at allocated times. Small doses with SquealyDessertCat. Very small.

RumbelowSale · 04/01/2015 15:41

They've all been watching too many simon's cat videos. He updates his Masterclasses on a regular basisGrin

Loving all your tales, btw.

ithoughtofitfirst · 04/01/2015 16:33

I think so hate ... Probably saw it on reddit or imgur or something! There are always amazing cat induced lolz on imgur.
