Ungrateful SIL?

I'm so angry. I'm ill and spent all day yesterday (12-10pm) making SIL daughter a cake. the cake was a disaster so I made a slightly different one but still the same theme. SIL has said she's gutted and is demanding pictures of the cake to see what it looks like because her other friend has made a cake which she said she hates. My brother has shouted at me telling me to send photos of the cake and called me mentally retarded. I haven't had time to send photos and don't want to because i know she will turn her nose up at it. I'm going to take the cake to the party today because I spent £30 on ingredients. AIBU?

And i hope they said sorry for being so rude

So she really liked it, and you are a perfectionist, when you told her it was rubbish what did you actually say, because one person 'not happy with it' is another persons 'wow that's amazing' which is probably why she wanted a photo!

Cakes really are not that important, not to the children. It's mums who get stressed about it, that's all.

i always made my boys' birthday cakes and it was a source of great pride pleasure stress for me. Then my dad was very sick: in ITU on the other side of the country. I went over to stay with ds2 and every day the consultants were telling us to prepare for the worst. Amidst all that I was stressing about ds1's 7th birthday cake! :-o Dh told me (nicely) to not be so stupid and he went out and bought a cake instead. (I travelled home for the day for ds1 's birthday). It was a revelation to me: the only person who was bothered about the cake was me! I never made another cake since.

making a cake for someone is a lovely thing to do - doesn't matter how it turned out. You are definitely nbu. horrible people to be mean about your cake!

And how did your brother act given he was the unreasonable one?
