If you have not made a resolution, may I respectfully suggest that you totter down to the blood bank just ONCE in 2015 and help save someone's life?
It doesn't hurt, they give you biscuits and they have lovely swingy chairs that turn you upside down if you go a bit woozy.
Plus you come out walking about 2feet off the ground because you have done something AMAZING

This is in honour of Joe Trazzletoes who is an inspiration to us all.

Bloody happy new year to you all Thanks

bumpity bump

Letsgoforawalk · 13/01/2015 20:29

I went the other day. Was in the door at 3 minutes to the hour, screened, bled, cup of tea and biccie, out again at 25 past. Grin
Quickest ever donation!

PingPongBat · 13/01/2015 20:42

and bump Smile

OhFrabjousDay · 14/01/2015 15:27

Bumping as I donated today :)

They almost didn't let me as my blood didn't sink in the test thingy, but they screened it with a clever machine and I just scraped in with a haemoglobin count of 125g/l. Any tips on increasing so that I don't get too knackered and can do it again soon? I have spatone from when I was anaemic during pregnancy, and I've told DH we're just going to have to have steak. Anything else I can be doing?

Charingcrossbun · 14/01/2015 16:39

I stand by my resolution but have just realised I can't donate while breastfeeding. I will donate before the end of the year though - and will get on to nagging DP about it (he is scared of needles though so wish me lucky).

QueenInTheNorth · 14/01/2015 21:25

I have such crappy veins that I can't give blood, they told me to try again in 5 years or so! I will be encouraging everyone I can to do so though. I do strongly feel that if you are able to give blood, and would accept donated blood, you should give it too!

Izzy24 · 14/01/2015 21:33

I wish I could give blood but I've had transfusions as a result of cancer, and of course cancer is an exclusion anyway. I'm glad to say I am very well at the moment and I would live to be able to donate again.

I used to feel curiously well afterwards and wonder if there isn't something healthy about blood letting!

Izzy24 · 14/01/2015 21:34

Love not live!
But live too of course. Love to live, live to love....
Sorry rambling.

NorksAreMessy · 30/12/2015 21:48

Soooo, how did you all get on then?

NorksAreMessy · 30/12/2015 21:48

HUGE pat on the back for anyone who gave blood this year for the first time and a big kiss to Trazzles (I don't know what you are called on here, lovely, have you NC?)

Enough bumps?

Maybe just one more.....

I really missed donating this year but not allowed to while breast feeding. (Still irritated that this is on NONE of the literature, or the website). DD is down to one feed a day now though so might just fail to mention that and go anyway and use it as an excuse to eat extra chocolate all day just in case

NorksAreMessy · 30/12/2015 22:16

YAYYYY! A reply and from lovely nosleep

Ok, you are now in my gang and I need you to tell me whether to start a new thread, or just get this one going again.

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/12/2015 22:17

They won't let me. Sad so someone has to give double!

Mmmmcake123 · 30/12/2015 22:19

Don't forget that if you tried a few years ago and your veins were not prominent enough or the flow was too slow this may have changed, especially if you have been exercising your arms since by carrying babies and toddlers around

NorksAreMessy · 30/12/2015 22:20

I think you have to nominate a willing victim, MrsTP. Who can you coerce?

OP posts:
MrsTerryPratchett · 30/12/2015 22:32

Well DH is very healthy...

NorksAreMessy · 30/12/2015 22:33

Aha!!!!
Tell him about the biscuits

OP posts:
NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 30/12/2015 22:39

MrsTP, I like your logic. I've just told DH that he simply MUST donate with me next time to help make up for the donations I've had to miss and he's agreed! Grin Quite the surprise as I've been encouraging him to come to a session for 15 years without success!

Pannn · 30/12/2015 22:39

Norks - I tried last year, following a MrsD thread about her Billy, but they said 'no'. BUT..a good idea to harass/threaten someone to make up for that failure.
Will do this week.

FelixFelix · 30/12/2015 22:40

I'm not allowed to because of the medication I'm on but I'm going to nag DP to do it instead. Here's a bump for you.
