We have a "gross" toilet and everyone refuses to use it

So how does it end up in such a state??

We have 3 bogs in our house - one downstairs, one en-suite and the main bathroom. The main bathroom was decorated when we first moved in to a "nautical" scene - pastel blue, sea shell canvas, blue stripey bath mats a seagull and fishing boat ornament on the window ledge.

I loved it.

A year later the carpet is stained with god knows what, the bathmats are stained and stink (no matter how often I wash them), the walls are sprayed with piss and the toilet is full of shit stains and just reeks. No matter how often I bleach and scrub it it ALWAYS looks like this within an hour of cleaning.

Now, DP refuses to use the "shit hole room" and so do the kids. So if nobody uses it - how the fuck is it in such a state????? It's ridiculous. The whole rooms stinks like a blokes pub toilet.

ZOMBIE THREAD ALERT!!!

Its from 2014 and the OP never returned after the initial (probably made up) post.

Ahh, 2014 when MN replies were liberally scattered with irreverent, light hearted responses amongst the serious. But always priortising hygiene as ever.

I have been known to refocus my DSs and their aim by "confiscating the toilet seat". A week of having to perch on cold ceramic and that lovely big space to get direct hits in to helped them appreciate the benefits of lifting a seat to aim. Or indeed sitting on a seat for those longer jobs.

Carpets should be outlawed in bathrooms. How can they be cleaned?! They can't.
Likewise bath mats. What are they for?! Germ magnets and bacteria hoarders. Burn them and if you can tile the floor, or put Lino down, then do it.
Tile behind the toilet so it can be wiped.

Bath mats can be washed. Mine go in with the towels on a hot wash. I don’t have a pedestal mat for the loo though.

TBF, it could have been bumped by a pee troll and then that poster saw it in active and responded as though it was current. Sometimes MN just quietly remove a troll/perv/spam post rather than leaving a deletion message.

That's true

No carpet and no mats. Decent washable flooring. And a good talking to with everyone regarding bathroom etiquette. For my own peace of mind and whenever possible I’d check after any of them use it so see who the biggest culprits are. Dirty arses - make it clear you’re not there to clean their filth.

Because you bumped it. Hmm

Then why doesn’t MN just close old threads?

lotsofpatience · 31/08/2025 15:07

Carpet in a toilet??? Really? That's insane!

Allseeingallknowing · 31/08/2025 15:23

Still a popular subject, though!

Omg I am silently cry laughing at this, trying not to wake DH who is asleep next to me! Absolutely brilliant!
