We have a "gross" toilet and everyone refuses to use it

So how does it end up in such a state??

We have 3 bogs in our house - one downstairs, one en-suite and the main bathroom. The main bathroom was decorated when we first moved in to a "nautical" scene - pastel blue, sea shell canvas, blue stripey bath mats a seagull and fishing boat ornament on the window ledge.

I loved it.

A year later the carpet is stained with god knows what, the bathmats are stained and stink (no matter how often I wash them), the walls are sprayed with piss and the toilet is full of shit stains and just reeks. No matter how often I bleach and scrub it it ALWAYS looks like this within an hour of cleaning.

Now, DP refuses to use the "shit hole room" and so do the kids. So if nobody uses it - how the fuck is it in such a state????? It's ridiculous. The whole rooms stinks like a blokes pub toilet.

Well somebody is urinating on the floor and walls. I like the newspaper idea to prove the issue. Rip up the carpet and either use lino or tiles. Get them to scrub the toilet.

BertieBotts · 28/12/2014 20:39

Oh I need to steal the newspaper thing! I don't know who it is, but I suspect DS, is peeing right off the side of the toilet in the mornings and to make it worse the seal is loose on that side, meaning you can clean it once but the mixture of wee and cleaning fluid seeps under the toilet to leak out again the next day Angry

DS is six so I can't really get him to clean it himself but aaaargh. Drives me insane, I'm always the one who ends up cleaning it.

ArchangelGallic · 28/12/2014 20:43

Do you put the lid down before you flush?

Spray from flushing is actually most likely method of pee going up walls. Someone once brought an ultraviolet light into work to check the toilets. It was illuminating to say the least!

Hatespiders · 28/12/2014 20:46

Why can't males sit down to wee? Is it anatomically impossible?

thenightsky · 28/12/2014 20:51

hate sitting down doesn't help. DH and DS's bathroom (I use en-suite) are both sit-downers these days and the seat is stained at the front underneath.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 28/12/2014 20:56

When we bought our house there was carpet in the bathroom and downstairs loo. The stench of stale piss when we ripped it out was horrendous

Fluffyears · 28/12/2014 21:04

We had carpets when we moved in, got rid straight away for nonslip vinyl flooring. It looks so much better and doesn't smell.

vintagesewingmachine · 28/12/2014 21:07

You have carpet in your bathrooms??Hmm

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/12/2014 21:12

carpets do hold the smell of wee so rip up and lino - im assuming your dc are boys?

someone i know has a pissy toilet/bathroom, has carpet and i try my hardest not to wee in their house as their place makes me feel physically sick Xmas Envy :(

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/12/2014 21:14

and if really bad may need to replace floorboards as wee soaks into carpet/underlay and floorboards

my parents have carpet in their bathroom, told them for years to have lino tho thankfully it is sparkling clean and not pissy Grin

years ago somewhere i worked (im a nanny so in a home) and their bath side was even carpeted

StandByYourTesselators · 28/12/2014 21:16

LTB.

(leave the bog)

ScrambledeggLDCcakeBOAK · 28/12/2014 21:31

It is great for you!

Sort out the problems ie rip up carpet etc then it's your very own private bathroom, I'd fucking kill for my own bathroom!

They can share and clean the other 2 between them

softlysoftly · 28/12/2014 21:33

Is it really only me that has bathroom carpet and a house that doesn't in any way smell of damp piss Confused

TheReluctantCountess · 28/12/2014 21:34

If no one else is using then it must be you, you filthy sod!

ScrambledeggLDCcakeBOAK · 28/12/2014 21:36

Haha softly No I don't think so I had carpets when I was a child and they were fine but the op obviously does and no amount of washing will help that's why I said rip it up.

I don't really have that much of an issue if it stays dry and clean although I happen to have Lino as that was here when I moved in.

Fabulous46 · 28/12/2014 21:39

No it's not. I have a cream carpet in all of our en suites. None are pished on and none smell.

YourMaNoBraBackOfMyCar · 28/12/2014 21:50

We only have one toilet/bathroom. My kids and dh often walk in when I'm showering or at the sink. I noticed through the mirror when brushing my teeth that d's wasn't lifting the seat and his willy kind of balloons when he does a wee and sprays out at a slight angle. The wee then hits the seat and sprinkles. That was why my bath and pedestal mats were always stinky after a day and I never realised. I did tell him to aim straight and to lift the seat but he must still have his moments. Op I kind of envy your extra bathrooms but also relieved to only have one bathroom to maintain. I suffer with severe fatigue and its a daily upset of mine when I seem to be the only one capable of wiping the seat, changing the towel, emptying the bin...

vienna1981 · 28/12/2014 21:51

Yuk. I gave my one and only bathroom and bog a deep clean today. Bath, floor and wall tiles, shower head and screen, sink, taps, cistern, pan and seat. The lot. A heady mix of Cif, Flash and Fairy Liquid and a big sponge. Hard work but it has to be done.

By the way I have both bathmats and pedestal mats but I put the latter by the sink pedestal, never the bog. Towels, mats and facecloths all washed weekly at 90 degrees.

Tell me how good I am. Wink

Shudder.

bloodyteenagers · 28/12/2014 22:14

Next you lot will be saying you have carpets in your kitchens as well.

Fabulous46 · 28/12/2014 22:22

Nah, I draw the line at kitchen carpets! Slate here Grin

thenightsky · 28/12/2014 22:38

I got a steam cleaner a month or two ago. You wouldn't believe the grossness that can be blasted out of loo seat hinges in a mostly male household.

Dontlaugh · 28/12/2014 22:40

Bath mats and pedestal mats, why people, WHY???
