I haven't consulted dh and dc yet, I don't think they'll approve but I've had enough of them now! I've had a lovely Christmas but I need to get some order back which won't happen until the decorations come down.
I should leave them really but they are making me panicky!!

Not sure why a Christmas tree would make anyone come out of routine, I stand by my thought that you are a miserable lot hehehe!!

I mean why bother at all, seems like an awful lot of effort for nought

Balderdabble · 27/12/2014 19:39

YANBU - ours came down today and they didn't go up early either. It's easier to clean (glitter and dog hair not a great combo!) and in my mind, Christmas finished yesterday. Smile

IfNotNowThenWhen · 27/12/2014 19:39

It's up to you but it would be odd to me. Mine only went up theday school/work broke up. I never get the people with trees up o Dec 1st, then rushing around in the mornings with all the decorations up getting ready for the day. Much better to associate the tree etc with a holiday. I can't imagine taking mine down now as it was only last night I began to really enjoy it. All the work was done and I could lie on the sofa, eating chocolates, and admiring the lovely sparkly tree with the snow coming down behind it and truly relax.

mistymorningmemories · 27/12/2014 19:40

Blimey Mehitabel who's rattled your cage! I don't put mine up til mid december as it's dd1s birthday in december and we want that to be a separate to Christmas. I like them for a bit but enough's enough!

Do it. Ours will be gone by Monday. Cards are already in the recycling.

springlamb · 27/12/2014 19:44

I shall begin little stealth raids from Monday onwards. First to disappear will be the cards. Then the ornaments and bits and bobs from hallways etc.
But I shall leave the tree up till after New Year. I like it down before the children return to school so doubt if I'll make 12th night, maybe 9 or 10 so long as PMT doesn't kick in!!

unlucky83 · 27/12/2014 19:49

I wait till the 5th Jan to take down the tree - they are back at school and they like to help so probably do it on the 4th. I would love to do it today! And the tree didn't go up until around the 20th ish
I have taken some bits down but realised the main box is in the attic - need to get it down to put stuff in (and sneak two 4 ft long digital piano/ stand boxes up there just in case it needs to go back under guarantee ...)
And balloons do keep getting 'accidentally' popped...I have a drawing pin in my pocket Wink (DP and DDs thought it was hilarious to blow up the whole packet of 100 - I've been tripping over them since Christmas eve)
I normally let them leave their presents out until the tree goes down too - but I have been sneaking books etc upstairs into their room since Boxing day... really feel like a grouch this year ...maybe its the weather - no snow here just bloody freezing and miserable...

cardibach · 27/12/2014 19:50

Mine went up on the so,stick and will come down on New Year's Eve. The take down date comes from my gran who always said that if you didn't you would take the luck of the old year into the new. Having said that, 2014 was pretty good, so perhaps I'd like the luck hangover...

cardibach · 27/12/2014 19:51

Taking them down on Christmas Day is clearly blinkers though. Forgot to say that. What on earth is that about?

DidoTheDodo · 27/12/2014 19:53

Mine go up the weekend before Christmas and come down about now. In my defence my house is v small and I need the space. And I like to have it all done and dusted before I go back to work.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/12/2014 20:03

I sometimes feel a bit Hmm putting all the lights on after Christmas (I have the tree, the decorations on the bannister and landing, and above the kitchen unit)

Ours come down on New Years Day.
We have a late night on NYE, breakfast then put away the decorations while watching TV.

I put ours up IIRC about the 14th

MozzchopsThirty · 27/12/2014 20:08

YANBU mine will be down tomorrow, I can't bear them, the lights haven't been on since xmas eve

usualsuspect333 · 27/12/2014 20:09

I'd rather have mine up early for the build up to Christmas.

I always think they look a bit daft when Christmas is over. I took mine down today.

Coumarin · 27/12/2014 20:10

I'm torn. Usually they'd be down the first weekend of January but it always feels wrong to start a fresh new year with last year's Christmas decs still up. So taking them down on NYE would be perfect. There's really only baubles to take off the two trees and then those to dispose of.

I'd replace them with vases of flowers, daffodils if I can get some.

But on the other hand Christmas has always been from Christnas Eve to New Year's Day and I bet DH will want them up longer.

Runwayqueen · 27/12/2014 20:11

At the request of dd (4) we took ours down today. For the tree to come up some of her toys are put away and she wanted them back out, I was going to take it down on Monday anyway as I like to go into new year with no decorations up anyway

Tealady1983 · 27/12/2014 20:16

Mine are down toys half away other half tomorrow and back to normal tomorrow x

samsam123 · 27/12/2014 20:19

Didn't even bother putting any up this year by the time the 25th comes around I am totally pissed off with the whole thing

HollyBdenum · 27/12/2014 20:21

I love the whole 12 days of Christmas, as a time to be snugly and cosy and start easing into the new year. And then Twelfth Night comes and the decorations go down and the mornings are lighter and you can see spring lurking round the corner and you don't need the extra sparkle of Christmas lights any more and are ready to crawl out from under the cozy duvet and start being energetic again.

NoLongerTheSeasonToBeJolly · 27/12/2014 20:22

There's twelve days of Christmas - just saying. Xmas Hmm

usualsuspect333 · 27/12/2014 20:25

I don't care about the 12 days of Christmas.

I can do what I like in my house, I'm not going to come around your house and take your decorations down.

TheRtHonGeorgianaGobshite · 27/12/2014 20:27

Christmas does not happen in my world, until after my Birthday (15th December).
Happens therefore around about the 20th.
I like it. And it will all be disassembled before 12th night.

I like my DD's analysis of Xmas decorations put up in late November/Early December. Premature celebration followed my Christmas Decoration.

PureMorning · 27/12/2014 20:27

Mine go down tomorrow. Live in a tiny flat and need the space.

ConstantCraving · 27/12/2014 20:28

YABU. Our tree went up on the 20th and will stay up until 12th Night - tis unlucky to take down before then! I love this bit between xmas and New Year - its the Christmas holidays NOW for goodness sake! Most of our neighbours have taken theirs down - but then they have had them up since the beginning of December Confused.

Sparklingbrook · 27/12/2014 20:28

There is no way I am waving DS1 off back to school with the Christmas tree still up. Grin

usualsuspect333 · 27/12/2014 20:32

I'm not sure why posters on MN get so worked up about what other people do about their xmas decorations.

What impact does it have on you?
