To find films like "Cheaper By The Dozen" stressful to watch?

In our house this Christmas we have been watching lots and lots of kids films, the vast majority Tim Burtons ones have been fabulous, but I find films like Cheaper By The Dozen and similar very difficult to watch, lots of chaotic scenes, messy houses, stressed parents, barking dogs etc.

Am I being unreasonable in thinking this? Can anyone suggest any films that make them feel similar?

Or am I dreadfully sensitive?

I found Cheaper by the Dozen stressful on 2 counts. Having been brought up in a large, noisy family it was a reminder of how the individual could frequently get lost among the chaos. But more, as a parent working full time, including travel, it was just too close to home to be comfortable watching a hapless spouse deliberately mess up all the carefully planned childcare arrangements resulting in the absent (but organised) travelling parent looking bad and compromising their ability to do their job properly.
Watched it once when it came out but never again.

Watch the original Cheaper by the Dozen from 1950. It's a true story of a couple who are experts in efficiency who are raising their 12 children. It's a lot less stressful.

I found that film stressful but for different reasons, it was because I find having two DCs so hard and feel a failure that I could not contemplate a large family! So those films just make me feel a bit crap!

Yes, I get an impending sense of comb from watching the obvious catastrophic scenarios span out, that and the smugness wholesomeness of it all. I just want them. All to fuck off.

I think you are being over sensitive [meant in a nice way] although I always fret over Kevin being left behind in Home Alone, she was a mean Mum! and his siblings were nasty buggers.

I get pissed off watching home alone too, especially when his brother Buzz ? Biff ? Eats the only pizza he likes, such a goady fucker.

Also Hilary Duff is sickening in CBTD too, all breathy voice and omg-y.

And yes to the sense of how a child can soon become "lost" in a huge family.

Hmm... interesting thread. I have 6 kids and it doesnt bother me at all, apart from the lack of one on one but you can get that in families with 2 kids if the parents cant be arsed so its not a major theme for me.

i love cheaper by the dozen; their lives seem organised to me and everyone loved.

I got intensely stressed out while watching a film with john cleese in it at the cinema. Clockwork? Clockwise? Something. Anyway he has to be somewhere for something and everything keeps going wrong which is a fine premise for a film I suppose but it was a bit too effective on me, I can still remember now it was a very unpleasant viewing experience!

I hate it, too. I wasn't a fan of Clockwise, either, made me very anxious!

Then again, when I was a child Mr Magoo freaked me out, get new glasses or wear the ones you have but stop bumbling into everything and speaking to water pumps, you bumbling bastard

Its not that I'm of a sensitive disposition or am overly anxious, but certain films just ooze stress and hassle to me, which having 2 DS's 4&13 and a preteen DSD resident here gives me enough of!

Cbtd2 was my zone-out when I had PND. Loved the scenery, the idea of being on holiday by the lake, the whole lot. Indescribably silly story line, but it filled in a couple of stressful hours every day when I felt very low, and I'd snuggle down with my new babe, and a cosy blanket. Still watch it now from time to time.

I haven't seen clockwise but it sounds like the sort of thing that would make me and anxious.
I even find meet the fockers hard to watch, the inevitable mad cap disasters really put me on edge. There was a British tv show, possibly with Rob Brydon in it, the worst day of my life or something like that, it drove me crazy.

Beryl yes, it had Ben Miller in it too. I saw the Christmas special of it a good few years ago and it just did my head in!

It was awful, poor blonde haired blue eyed foster child, mean social workers, bad handling of sibling integration, light god bothering. No real story line, 2d characters, bloody misery porn
