AIBU to be miffed at selfish person stealing my blue badge space?

Long sorry but I'm getting it off my chest! This afternoon I went to our small local naice supermarket. I am disabled and have severe chronic pain so walking is difficult. I always try and use a blue badge space (I have a badge) for the width as it makes it easier to get out of the car with crutches or sticks if I'm not using my chair, and they are nearer.

The car park was hammered. The blue badge space is a separate area at end of car park close to doors. I saw a person loading their bags into car to the right hand side in a BB space so smiled at them and pulled up on the left with my indicator on, allowing enough room for them to pull out of the space. They took a few minutes, which I understand as I am slow too. Whilst I was waiting a car pulled in front and stopped. The driver caught my eye in the rear view so I did that sort of "I'm waiting for this space" gesture but they didn't move, however driver put a BB on Dashboard and an elderly lady got out of passenger seat and went into store so I assumed driver was just waiting for her there. You've guessed it, the car in BB space pulled out and as I had to wait for them, the car in front reversed in! When the driver got out, I wound down my window and politely said "excuse me but I was waiting for this space" to which she replied "well sorry I didn't see you and I've dropped my mother off now" and just started to walk off. This did anger me so I confess I said "You did see me. Well aren't you selfish". She then came to my window and said "well I just thought you were parked illegally" so I said "you did see me, I was indicating and you knew I was waiting". To which she said "look it's very busy and my mother is in the store so I'm sorry, but what do you want me to do, move the car". By this time I could see people looking at us so I just "oh just forget it" and reversed off. As I was driving out a space came free at the end of a row so I parked there in order to get my sticks out easily. It was at the other end though so it did hurt to shuffle the extra distance.

I hate confrontation so wouldn't normally have called to her but I really needed the space and I WAS THERE FIRST

You should have blocked her in. Selfish cow (her not you!)

If the driver wasn't disabled they should have moved once their move got out of the car and come back for her.

YANBU. Disabled spaces are for the disabled. The other driver could have parked anywhere in the car park and walked, pain free, to the shop. She could have then walked, pain free, to get her car and driven to pick up her mother near the shop.
I think people who use spaces for the disabled when they do not need them are the lowest of the low.

I don't think ywbu at all. Although I think the answer to her 'what do you want me to do, move?' question should have been 'yes, please since I was here waiting first'.

She was rude. Whilst it might have been inconvenient for her to park in a normal space and then drive to the storefront to collect her mother, it's likrly it was possible. As you were on your own, you didn't have that luxury. First come, first served.

On Tuesday park in any space and ring the store from your car and ask them to bring your turkey out to you.

I can understand why you are so upset. When it is obvious someone is already waiting to drive into a space, any space, its common curtesy to look for another. It was just downright rude.
I hope you manage to get there on Tuesday without any problems.

I have, when I have been in this situation with my DN, who has severe CP and a converted car with a side ramp, so we need the width too; sat behind a person and beeped my horn so that everyone knows what they are up too. I do give them a chance to show me their badge though.

You should report her. It is an abuse of a blue badge for an able bodied person to be using it to park, which is actually what she did if she had already dropped her mother off.

Even if she didn't see you or realise you were waiting for the space, she should still have moved on and then come back and collected her mother. YANBU.

I know this is bad as I understand invisible disabilities but part of me was thinking "her mother walks better than I do"". That is BU I know but she was definitely more sprightly than I am.

If she was trying to play blue badge top trumps she is an arse. Perhaps in a future situation you could get yours out and dump it out in a 'top trumps' stylee?? She didn't need the space more than you once she'd dropped off her mother. I'm sorry you're worried now about visiting that supermarket but hopefully it'll be a one off and this thread might give you some 'next time' tips (hopefully there won't be a next time of course).

YANBU at all I get this all the time and sometimes there's 3 of us in the car that are disabled and entitled to a disabled bay.

I worked out a little while ago it's not being disabled that depresses me as much as people's attitudes to me being disabled.

She was out of order,I wish shops ect would back up they're disabled customers over they're disabled car spaces.

BB sticker or not it is very ignorant but made worse by someone who really should be much more considerate of others.

Sounds completely selfish. She could have easily parked the car in normal parking space then gone and got it to pick her mother up later.

This time of year, people are utter wankers about parking. My ex nearly came to blows with a bloke when we'd been waiting for a space and the other bloke drove the wrong way down the aisle and nipped in.

YWNBU OP - there are twats everywhere. You should petition your naice supermarket to provide more spaces I reckon

I'm on the fence, the woman had a bb and used the hedge as it should be whether she dropped the disabled person off is irrelevant imo. The same could be said for lots of bb holders but they have a badge and are entitled to use the space.

My dp and dm both have bb's and I've driven both about and parked in disabled bays when ive been with them, I've also dropped my dm off at the door, found a disabled bay went and done our shopping or whatever and then We've went out separate ways where dm drives back home.

However nicking your space is a twats trick whether it was a normal or disabled space.
