To absolutely hate Russell Brand

That's it really. Find him an abhorrent, sanctimonious, hypocritical prick.

YABU - hate is love turned upside down,

QuinnTwinny & Russell sitting in a tree k.i.s.s.i.n.g Xmas Grin

Icimoi · 18/12/2014 02:09

Why "absolutely hate" him? What has he ever done to you personally, OP?

gypsygirlfromlondon · 18/12/2014 02:20

I think he has narcissistic personality disorder and that if he hadn't got a lucky break and been such a good wordsmith, he would be in prison. I can't take him seriously, I just can't. He has all the classic signs and his egotistic craving for attention and the next 'fix' in the media spotlight is unbelievable. And people actually pander to it! Ghastly, smelly bloke- a very, very poor imitation of the lovely Jonny Depp. I wish he would just go away.

radiobedhead · 18/12/2014 02:45

I think it's a shame we've let other rich, powerful people tell us that a rich person couldn't possibly really want to sympathise with people who are worse off than themselves. I think it's a shame people think it's hypocritical of Russell to earn money while sticking up for people losing their homes. Actually, I just think those people are thick. I don't think they understand what hypocrisy is.

That open letter today was dire. Not hilarious at all. All of this vitriol directed at Brand has made us believe a tedious letter from a man worried about his lunch is 'hilarious' and puts Russell 'back in his box'. Sorry, what now? The whole letter based around the fact this poor man couldn't eat his lunch hot? Around selfish desires - around the misguided belief everything's ok because RBS are going to pay us interest on the whacking great bail out we paid for? Pathetic. And let's not forget the misogyny in the letter. But I guess people skim over that because it was LOL.

You don't have to like Russell Brand or agree with anything he is saying. I'm not even saying I do, but Jesus, it's depressing that we've completely written someone off who I believe is trying to do good. And I believe a lot of that is because the people he is challenging are telling us he's a dick. I wonder why they're doing that.

Tattiebogle · 18/12/2014 02:52

Just ignore him. Its as simple as that.

NetworkGuy · 18/12/2014 03:09

Just ignore him. Its as simple as that.

I do, but sadly other people (in the media) feel the need to mention the man (and not just mention him, but the drivel he says, too).

Oooops, nearly wrote "idiot" but he clearly makes money, so he's not as thick as a brick ....house, just not someone I'd take notice of.

Found it odd he achieved any degree of "fame" before he was on that silly radio show, glad that he and JR left the BBC, as both were a significant waste of money, and it was a shock to find how much JR was earning (reportedly).

DoctorTwo · 18/12/2014 04:34

Yeah, I hate that he's backing the E15 Focus On Mothers group effort to not get evicted from their homes.

I loathe that he's using all future earnings to start small businesses to help homeless people and encourage addicts into rehab.

I find it disgusting that he's started debate around a political system that only permits a narrow range of views but encourages all manner of argument within it.

It's fucking appalling that anybody would wish for any sort of equality for poor and dispossessed people, unlike those lovely fluffy Tories. IDS is a saint in comparison.

Further proof of his hypocrisy is he pays rent to a landlord who has registered his properties to companies based in tax havens. The bastard. Brand, not the landlord.

How dare he sue The Sun for printing lies about him again and promising to give the proceeds to E15 and JF96.

That a mans lunch got cold just puts the tin hat on it.

Mehitabel6 · 18/12/2014 06:10

He makes my skin crawl and I find I can't listen to him. I find him narcissistic and hypocritical.

Sussexbelle73 · 18/12/2014 06:11

I think YABU- I admire him for starting a discussion. He isnt always that eloquent and sometimes his arguments could be better thought out (he wasnt great on question time last week) but at least he is talking about drug laws and social justice issues and trying to campaign to create change.
Given the patronising victorian anti - poor values espoused by the tory government, I know who I would rather listen to!

Mehitabel6 · 18/12/2014 06:14

I could make a list of the things that he is deeply hypocritical about, but life is too short to waste time on him.
I loved the Jeremy Paxman interview with him- it was so sensible to just let him ramble on, no point in trying to have an intelligent interview.

Mehitabel6 · 18/12/2014 06:15

I wouldn't buy a second hand car from him- that says it all!

HelloitsmeFell · 18/12/2014 06:27

Irrespective of his politics or mine, I cannot for the life of me understand why he thinks that imploring disenfranchised, demoralised young people NOT to vote is the way forward. Confused

It sounds like some massive sort of two-faced stitch up or con trick if you ask me. It puts me in mind of Sylvester Sneekly/the Hooded Claw pretending to protect Penelope Pitstop while secretly plotting her downfall.

Jojoanna · 18/12/2014 06:49

I think he's great

ReadyToBreak · 18/12/2014 06:55

He's a hypocrite. I really dislike him.

Sparklingbrook · 18/12/2014 07:17

This thread. Grin It's like Groundhog Day on MN.

Babycham1979 · 18/12/2014 07:30

I hope young people do listen to him. Personally, I think he's a bit of a twat, but it's refreshing to hear a sleb talking about things that matter, however simplistic his approach may be. I don't genuinely believe any yoof are going to be inspired to abstain from voting because of him, but I do think some May become more engaged. Whether that means picking-up a copy of Marx or Hayek, I don't care; it's a start.

I don't think he is preaching apathy, quite the opposite. He seems to have attracted so much opprobrium, partly because he's annoying, but mainly because the content of his discourse terrifies the powers-that-be, and that includes the likes of the Daily Mail as much as the three main political parties.

For an idea of what real political engagement among the young looks like, consider Greece. Syriza are due to win the next election and it terrified the markets, the ECB, the army, the media etc. Real, informed democracy? Oh, we can't have that now!

Costacoffeeplease · 18/12/2014 07:31

Complete PITA and utter twat, sick of the sight of him everywhere being oh so clever and totally patronising, I wish he'd just bugger off

FriedFishAndBread · 18/12/2014 07:31

I think he's great.

Youtube the trews, his take on the news. I love it.

I agree about not voting, (shoot me down now) we don't have anyone to vote for. If I vote in the next election it will be the greens. Labour is a joke and has forgotten about its core group, ukip has taken over the lost Britons who are stupid enough to think they want they're country back, torys are a joke and the lib dems are bot worth mentioning.

If RB started his own party up I'd be the first one in line at the voting booths.

Branleuse · 18/12/2014 07:34

Russell brand is brilliant. Clever, funny and great views. I used to think he was annoying when he was doing bigbrother etc but now hes got into politics he has got people thinking and realising their power. Its so rare to see someone with public presence and influence, using their sway for good

Branleuse · 18/12/2014 07:35

if russell brand started his own party id be surprised and disappointed, because central government is one of the things he takes issue with

Chandon · 18/12/2014 07:52

He is just so false

I don't buy that he cares about anyone but himself.

Egomaniac par excellence!

Vevvie · 18/12/2014 08:13

YABU

Nothing wrong with what he's doing. He's done a lovely reply to the poor bank worker whose lunch went cold!

Nelehwelly · 18/12/2014 08:13

'And let's not forget the misogyny in the letter.'

Hhhhmmm. One of my primary reasons for disliking RB has been his disrespectful use of the women he has slept with to garner publicity and further his career, as it strikes me as fairly misogynistic.

Carrierpenguin · 18/12/2014 08:23

Yanbu

R4roger · 18/12/2014 08:30

can't stand him, caught him on the end of BBC3 last week, so annoying.
