Why are some people on these Thereads so personal and nasty at times ?

Gorn to the dawgs

Optimistletoe1 · 18/12/2014 23:35

Woo hoo - I found an accent (not the one we were looking for, sadly)!

ilovesooty · 18/12/2014 23:35

Surely she'd be pretty instantly recognisable if she was posting under another name? Smile

LoisHatesChristmas · 18/12/2014 23:36

ScottishMummy is definitely not here. I've been using excessive creepy wee brackets without any problem!

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 18/12/2014 23:36

I have cycles on my washing machine which make me ask the same question, AF

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 18/12/2014 23:41

< nods sagely >

Optimistletoe1 · 18/12/2014 23:42

Sage nodding on AIBU? That's got to be a first!

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 18/12/2014 23:44

Ah, there is much wisdom here. To turn a thread from zero to hero in the space of a few posts is a God Given Gift. Innit.

emotionsecho · 18/12/2014 23:48

I didn't know herbs could nod, it's a true education here on MN.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 18/12/2014 23:52

< groan >

emotionsecho · 18/12/2014 23:58

Sorry AF 'twas lame but it's lateGrin

elephantspoo · 19/12/2014 00:06

By its nature, AIBU is bound to be blunt unless we are all expected to wrap things up in cotton wool.

By asking, "Am I Being Unreasonable?" you are effectively saying, "This is my situation. Judge me." If you then match that with a light hearted story, or a feel good story, you'll see a far different reaction to one where you cast aspersions on someone else, or judge others actions from the get go.

One persons personal and nasty is another persons freedom fighter op!

You can't take the truth!

Grin

Unless you are a journalist Confused in which case that's sad.

Hmm, I don't know. For example, there's a thread on here at the moment about how someone hates Katherine Jenkins. You might not think she's a great singer or whatever, but hate is a really strong word. And just...why? I have no idea whether she knows that there are loads of people saying how much they hate her but if she does, I imagine she probably went to bed rather upset last night. I would. Why would anyone deliberately seek to do that to someone for recreational purposes? If it were genuinely a matter of public interest - you know, if she had committed a crime or were making poor decisions with public money etc - then fair enough, but she's just singing songs. They, or her singing, may not be to everyone's taste, but then couldn't we just ignore her and not buy her stuff?

HellKitty · 19/12/2014 08:36

I haven't looked at the Katherine Jenkins thread but remember reading that she's got an Internet troll who hates her. Used to comment on every Daily Fail new story about her under different names so I assumed it was the same barking mad woman.

MmeLindor · 19/12/2014 09:11

Haven't read the Katherine Jenkins thread, but she strikes me as sensible enough not to search the internet for message boards discussing how much people hate/like her.

It bemuses me tbh, that people can bring up that much emotion for someone they've never met, and know nothing about, other than the stuff printed in the tabloid which is all made up anyway

MmeLindor · 19/12/2014 09:31

Just skimmed the KJ thread. It isn't nasty. There are a few personal opinions about her, but most are actually informed critique of her voice. I'm no opera buff, so that was really interesting to read.

Fallingovercliffs · 19/12/2014 10:44

Actually the title of that thread was that they hated Katherine Jenkins voice.
But yes, there were a couple of posts along the lines of 'oh I've heard stories about her. She's a very nasty person' which isn't very nice, and someone saying 'I was at school with her. Horrible person' or somesuch which is ridiculous. A lot of horrible teenagers grow up to be perfectly pleasant 30 somethings.

But most of the posts focussed on her voice, not her personality.

Teeste · 19/12/2014 10:53

Accents on a Windows keyboard - you need unicode, I'm afraid. é is Alt+0233. Xmas Grin

LuannDelaney · 19/12/2014 11:00

Op was it you that posted what your colleague had said about the children in Pakistan?

PortofinoVino · 19/12/2014 12:42

I've seen some people here bully others in a way which suggests that they're 'organised' outside of the threads -either that or the mumsnet ethos is so ingrained in them that they have the ability to act 'as one'

And people who don't have the same opinion........just......well, they are in for a slaughtering.

But well said Malice.
