Why are some people on these Thereads so personal and nasty at times ?

OP posts:
TiggyD · 18/12/2014 22:19

If somebody asks your opinion of something, and your opinion is that they're a dick, you tell them they're being a dick. Anything else would be a lie. If you're only interested in people saying you're totally right, why ask the question?

Lifesalemon · 18/12/2014 22:28

I have read some very nasty posts recently. I particularly hate it when people start name calling, saying other posters are thick, sad, stupid etc just because they dare to have a different opinion. It is really not necessary. Some threads are really interesting, they really make you think and look at things from all sides but some are just depressing.

MmeLindor · 18/12/2014 22:31

OP: AIBU [explains dick-ish behaviour]

Poster: Yes, you are being a dick.

or

Poster: Well, you are actually being a bit unreasonable.

It doesn't take much longer to write the second response. You don't have to be a dick in response to a dick.

Jingleyflashyballs · 18/12/2014 22:34

I'll never post on aibu ever again after the other week. Chat for me so that it at least dissapears too.

ychyfi · 18/12/2014 22:43

It's true that there are some real corkers on here. If some posters said these things in the workplace they'd receive a warning for harrassment. If they said them in any sort of social environment they'd never be invited again by the host. If they are able to project a socially-acceptable, polite veneer when they know that they would experience negative consequences as a result of their bad behaviour, you have to wonder why they feel it is ok to let rip on here. The only answer would appear to be that they are secretary rather unpleasant and have been waiting for a consequence-free environment to let their real selves go. Nice.

Hobby2014 · 18/12/2014 22:44

I do wonder firstly if these people are so blunt, abrupt, rude etc in real life (erm, I'm thinking NO!) and also if they have any conscience as you never know what someone on the receiving end is going through and your nasty & personal comment could really kick someone when they're down.

Does anyone think of the consequences of their actions?

Someone might post an AIBU and get ripped to shreds and then when they really need advice, be too frightened to post incase they get it all again.

There's really no need to make people feel shitty when you can say it in a nicer way. Disagree fine, say yes YABU, but no need to go as far as some people do. It's not OK.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 18/12/2014 22:46

Some people are really taking advantage of this thread to unleash a tirade of bile-filled bitterness and loathing, aren't they Wink

ychyfi · 18/12/2014 22:46

Or "secretly" even.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 18/12/2014 22:47

Oh, wait....

ychyfi · 18/12/2014 23:01

Touche. Ahem. (Or it would be if I could locate the accent key on this phone...)

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 18/12/2014 23:03

I always wondered how you got the accents.

simontowers2 · 18/12/2014 23:08

The liberal lefties are the worst on here. Anybody dares to say anything that doesnt fit their view of the world and they start flinging the insults about/being really sarcastic/questioning other people's intelligence and generally being nasty as fuck. It's bizarre.

HellKitty · 18/12/2014 23:11

Accents? Hold the letter key for a second and they come up - a à á â ä æ ã å ? I was only told last week so I feel all clever Smile

As for AIBU, some of the ones I've seen and sometimes taken part in HAVE been totally U but they can't see it themselves. They just want someone to agree.

Tron123 · 18/12/2014 23:14

I don't know, what I find disappointing is rather than argue out the principle or issue in an objective way there is a tendacy by some users to make an issue personal and use accusatory language.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 18/12/2014 23:20

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

that's what happens when I hold the letter key ^^ Confused

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 18/12/2014 23:20

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

MmeLindor · 18/12/2014 23:22

Think it's only Apple keyboards that do that. flings AF a set of ä ë ï ö ü

MmeLindor · 18/12/2014 23:23

Damn. Forgot that MN uses * as bold. Need to use creepy wee brackets to talk in 3rd person.

HellKitty · 18/12/2014 23:23

Oops must only be Apple then! I'll just have to imagine some for you - or draw on my screen with a sharpie.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 18/12/2014 23:24

I have a bog standard keyboard. I think you have to do summat real fancy to get the accents.

BeHoHoHove · 18/12/2014 23:24

I miss 'creepy wee brackets' SM

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 18/12/2014 23:26

What the heck happened to SM ? It's a mystery of the same magnitude as Stonehenge to me.

MmeLindor · 18/12/2014 23:30

You need some weird Mason-esque key combination on a windows keyboard, AF. I could never remember it, and just used ue for ü

Has SM gone?

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 18/12/2014 23:33

Apparently so, certainly in the usual SM apparition incarnation Smile

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 18/12/2014 23:33

I think with a windows keyboard you have to nod, wink, pat your head and rub your tummy at the same time.
