How did people get through life before mumsnet! You know that you don't have to consult Mumsnet over every little thing in your life Xmas Smile. Examples include: i told a boy not to hit my ds in softplay AIBU, AIBU to refuse a tradesperson to use my toilet, omg a stranger ruffled my toddlers hair and I am bricking myself!

Posts are in the eye of the beholder!

SwearySwearyQuiteContrary · 17/12/2014 15:36

Gaaawwwd, OP, I was agreeing with you! Am naturally sarcastic - I guess it doesn't come over well online. Perhaps I should start a thread about it… Anyhoo, was curious about your name as I am a Brit Abroad and wondered if the name meant you were a traveller (non Big Fat Wedding type) too.

Aeroflotgirl · 17/12/2014 15:39

Altinkum please take tge thread as it was intended, I myself have 2 children with SN and my mum lives alone far from me with no other family near and me not driving so I can't see her as often. Yes she often tells me she is lonely and it is difficult when I am struggling with my own children. If you find this thread offensive hide it and don't post.

Oh right my DH family are from Italy and my mum is from Cyprus. I wanted to be a pilot but my mum wouldent allow me. I love aeroplanes, and my user name is meant to reflect that though I may change it to Boeing747girl as they are my favourite aeroplane Xmas Grin

Yes my mum has depression, and is depressed most of the time, she finds Christmas hard, tge other day she told me she sometimes wants to go to sleep and never wake up Sad. So yes I wanted a lighthearted thread about the minutiae of Mumsnet.

SwearySwearyQuiteContrary · 17/12/2014 15:52

But.. Why Aeroflot… Confused
Cake and Wine gratefully accepted, it's a respectable time of evening here for such things.

SwearySwearyQuiteContrary · 17/12/2014 15:58

And have a Wine yourself, bugger the time in the UK. Threads about the minutiae bring out the minutiae. My first proper thread seemed terribly sensible and sane to me, I was sent running for the hills thoroughly chastised. That was nearly 10 years ago now. I'm not a fast learner!

MistyMistletoe · 17/12/2014 16:01

I think MN is the modern equivalent of a lifestyle magazine, especially the Problem Pages you get in the back; but rather than an 'expert/professional' person responding, it's peer led.

Aeroflotgirl · 17/12/2014 16:02

Swearing I need some Wine and Cake right now. I have been on here for 7 years, I should have known Xmas Grin. Why what sweary?

OP posts:
Aeroflotgirl · 17/12/2014 16:03

Shall we have some Wine together Xmas Grin

frankie80 · 17/12/2014 16:06

I see people asking on here what they should do in the event of a serious crime (assault, burglary, rape)

errrr, phone the bloody police, not go on mumsnet!!!

SwearySwearyQuiteContrary · 17/12/2014 16:09

My Wine is right here! I'm less than 24 hours away from the 6 week summer holidays here and I can't wait.

Anyway, I'm just thinking that Aeroflot is not the most obvious choice for an aeronautical enthusiast. Emirates, Qantas, BA etc… yes. Aeroflot, no.

Aeroflotgirl · 17/12/2014 16:11

Exactly frankie, I do think that sometimes. call the emergency services not on here. there is crime going on, and the op is on mumsnet.

I know, Aeroflot came to mind when I was choosing a user name Xmas Grin. Should be AirbusA330 Xmas Grin

I met a lady BA pilot on one of the threads here and we contact each other in real life.

Most reliable mid-size bird in the sky, I like it. Wink

Best be off, beware the minutiae.

PlumpingUpPartridge · 17/12/2014 16:19

But often MN will respond faster than the emergency services!!

Or at the very least provide useful info that could help you to make a positive difference in someone's life.

Besides, who's to say that posters don't contact the police and THEN go on MN?

florentina1 · 17/12/2014 16:20

I don't think it is necessarily about what they post. I think it is just a way of connecting. I wish MN was around when my kids were little. I had no friends, no family and an OH who worked away from home. You ask what people did before MN - some of them got very lonely and depressed. Even though I am quite old now, I love MN. It helps me connect with young women, makes me feel part of the community, makes me moderate my own behaviour and attitude. Very occasionally I can add my own experience to the mix or offer a word of comfort.

I want to add a thank you to all of you. I truly believe your life is much harder than our generation's. The time you all take out of your busy lives to help one another and the sense of humour you have, has been a comfort to many - myself included.

A few nights ago, when I was feeling very low, I read two very long threads from a few years ago. It was a real tonic.

Branleuse · 17/12/2014 16:21

am i being unreasonable to put my dc in the same pyjamas twice in a row was my personal favourite recently.

AIBU to make some decisions all by myself?

Enjoyingmycoffee1981 · 17/12/2014 16:24

OP, a brief search on your user name reveals your bloody love getting involved in threads such as you list! So what's your issue?!

Aeroflotgirl · 17/12/2014 16:33

it is isen't it florentina I am addicted to AIBU, its nice that there are other people out there if you need help or a shoulder to cry on. I have seen thread on AIBU from posters who want to kill themselves, or are lonely and want to talk, and the support on here is so wonderful, it shows you that there is good in the world. I know branleuse and AIBU to now change my sheets every week! Enjoy, I have a stalker, fantastic, happy Christmas to you Xmas Grin

Floggingmolly · 17/12/2014 16:37

People used to live in communities; all this stuff would be gossiped about over the fence to your neighbour, on the steps of the washhouse over a fag, with your mum who lived round the corner and would pop round for tea every day, ditto your sister, so on and so forth...
Life is different now.

Aeroflotgirl · 17/12/2014 16:39

Yes I guess it would flogging, people now keep, themselves to themselves more I guess.
