Just read in the daily fail that a court has ruled bus companies have no right to make pushchair users move from the wheelchair spaces on buses

Can anyone find this in a better source?

lambsie yes true. and the fact that the person in the WC might have LD's, or not be well... not taken in to account.

To me it balances that the the first occupant of the seat should be allowed to remain. Although in most cases a parent would willingly cede it to a wheelchair user

I'll put this in words of one syllable:

It's a space for a wheel chair.

Its fucking disgusting, the government with shit like this are bad enough, without having to deal with members of the public who think waking a sleeping baby is comparable to not being able to walk.

Thank you for saying that, BeyondtheTreelights -- it's just human & common sense, but I imagine there will still be people arguing with you.

JustMummyof2 how simply do you need it explained to understand what people with disabilities have to deal with? I hope your first post is not representative of what you'll be teaching the 2 you're Mummy of.

I despair sometimes, and threads like this make me feel very old & grumpy, if these are the attitudes of today's younger mothers. I'd be ashamed to have taught these attitudes to my DS.

UptheChimney · 11/12/2014 12:32

but the issue is debatable as a whole and that is what I have tried to put across

Er, no, it's not. People with mobility difficulties, and the charities which support them fought for wheelchair spaces.

UptheChimney · 11/12/2014 12:35

A mother and an ill baby in a pram, are on a bus to a hospital appointment. On gets a person in a wheelchair going into town to do their shopping.

Who in this instance takes priority? What happens?

Parent folds the pram, and carries child. Parent has mobility and a choice and probably hasn't suffered a lifelong cut on income because of a disability. Look at the stats: people with disabilities are often also living in poverty.

ilovesooty · 11/12/2014 13:23

It's not debatable. Wheelchair (or disability buggy) takes priority. No ifs. No buts.

If you want to be really appalled have a look at this story on Metro Facebook page and the entitled whining and unpleasant comments about those with disabilities.
