Tinsel or baubles first?

This question has nearly ended my marriage today. Personally I think it's completely obvious. So AIBU to say OF COURSE you put the tinsel on first. Otherwise it obscures the baubles. Silly man.

Lights, tinsel, baubles, lametta, angel hair. In that order. Although I don't actually have any lametta now and have stopped doing angel hair too, now that we have a fake tree. :(

I always used to pull the angel hair out thin and put it in front of a light, so it would diffuse the light and make them look bigger and soft-focused. Fabulous! But no fun trying to get it off the fakey tree - it all takes just too long, because taking down the fakey tree takes too long.

Lights, beads and popcorn garlands (NO TINSEL Wink), baubles then topper last.

Star8369 · 08/12/2014 09:45

lights, tinsel, baubles

TSSDNCOP · 08/12/2014 09:52

Lights, tinsel, baubles.

You'd be the type that puts jam on your scone before cream otherwise.

Nobody likes that type.

Thumbnutstwitchingonanopenfire · 08/12/2014 09:54

TSSDNCOP - that's a vile accusation! Shock You can't conflate the two at all. I always put butter, then jam, then cream - you can get FAR more cream on top of the jam! Grin

TSSDNCOP · 08/12/2014 09:56

You are quite wrong Thumb.

Fires up spreadsheet.

Adds Thumb

Lights, tinsel, baubles.
Tinsel optional
Otherwise you knock the baubles off applying lights and tinsel .

OneLeggedCrabGoingInCircles · 08/12/2014 10:02

Lights, tinsel, baubles. Otherwise tinsel covers up the baubles and squashes them back into the tree.

GamoraStarlord · 08/12/2014 11:18

TSSDNCOP.... Noooo, the jam holds the cream better, it is too wobbly the other way round! tinsel has no place on a tree when there are so many good decorations available too!

Thumbnutstwitchingonanopenfire · 08/12/2014 12:02

Oo Gamora, you'll be on her spreadshit for sure now too! Grin

SouthernOne · 08/12/2014 13:14

wooden spoons! lights, tree topper, a big silver bow this year, baubles, baubles and more baubles. Not a piece of tinsel insight

The spoons are under two of the feet to make the tree stand up straight. Apparently they were just to see if it worked, but now seem to be there for the duration. The joys of living in an old house.

Thick tinsel in the hall along with more lights sometime nearer Christmas

TSSDNCOP · 08/12/2014 14:08

Deep, martyred sigh.

Gamora yep! you're on the list with your jam foolery.

ZombieJenna · 08/12/2014 16:04

Lights round mirror over fireplace, tinsel on top of picture frames, baubles tiny wooden ornaments on small wooden tree, angel on the mantlepiece. We're tight on space so don't have a proper tree but the decorations still go up in the 'proper' order Xmas Grin

weeblueberry · 08/12/2014 16:07

Lights, tinsel, baubles (to fill the 'gaps').

This is The Christmas Standard.

Mammanat222 · 08/12/2014 16:08

Yikes, do people still use tinsel??

We're a no tinsel household - I have never had it on any of my trees!

Cerisier · 08/12/2014 16:14

We have ditched the tinsel this year. The tree looks much smarter without it.

However in years gone by it was always lights then tinsel then baubles.

londonrach · 08/12/2014 16:14

Whats lametta and angel hair?

londonrach · 08/12/2014 16:16

Tssdncop i dont like jam or cream...just butter for me Grin

Trickydecision · 08/12/2014 17:27

Londonrach, Angel Hair is a white fibrous material that you can tease out and drape over trees etc. I don't think it has any anti-social tendencies, unlike lametta, which is made of very, very fine strips of foil, usually silver but sometimes coloured. It mysteriously detaches itself from the tree when you are not looking, and hides on the carpet in places where it will not catch the light and therefore will not twinkle. You will not see it when you hoover, so it will wind itself around the brushes and it will be the devil's own job to unpick.

But I rather like it.

WrappedInABlankie · 08/12/2014 17:54

Tinsel first you use it to cover the wired for the lights Confused

GamoraStarlord · 08/12/2014 20:06

Thumbs Grin at spreadshit. TSSDNCOP... I will be over here with Thumbs enjoying scones the right way!

HappyAgainOneDay · 08/12/2014 21:13

Lights, baubles and tinsel if you must. Certainly no lametta!

londonrach · 08/12/2014 21:29

Thanks tricky i dont think ive ever seen either so hard to understand what it is. Are they a new invention?
