To ask you what you know about Forever Living?

So a friend has started selling Forever Living, she seems to be doing well so far which is great for her but it seems too good to be true, can I ask your experiences with the company, if any? She's a good friend so I'm hoping it works for her, so far the only draw back i can see is a lot of advertising to friends (via fb), which long term probably would annoy folk.

Also the products, anyone tried the weight loss stuff? She has lost loads so if its not just water that will all go back on then I jump on the bandwagon with her :D

Getting a bit suspicious about all these threads innocently questioning what Forever Living is.

Totes.

Will be a feature on some hideous television program early next week, I have no doubt.

(I never usually say 'totes'.)

RokensWife · 03/12/2014 22:27

I posted on FB about our fish who was hours away from pegging it.

My friend who does FL actually suggested aloe Vera oil for said goldfish.

I hate all the constant updates about being 'one step closer to my dream' or 'I'm adding this to my dream board' or 'oooo I think I'll get a new car, I don't even have to get out of my jams for work'.

And the inspirational quotes and photos from the 'rallies'.

IneedAwittierNickname · 03/12/2014 22:28

Haven't tried the weight loss etc products but agree with a PP who said that the propolis cream is amazing! It's clears up my eczema quicker than the strongest steroid cream and doesn't damage my skin.
The hair products left my hair clean and shiny and soft but no more so than my much cheaper ones I normally use.

KingJoffreysHasABigWhiteBeard · 03/12/2014 22:36

If it worked they could rebrand it as Forever Fishing!

Grin

On a serious note; don't give it to your fish. Don't put anything in your tank which you haven't bought from a proper aquatic shop and properly read the instructions.

(Used to keep fish. Know a bit of stuff.)

DoubleValiumLattePlease · 03/12/2014 22:37

LaQueen Shock that's an extraordinary tale! I suppose these are the sort of people who used to get sucked into religious cults when they were fashionable.
It really is quite scary because people do seem to change overnight - or at least when they get back from one of their much-posted about 'seminars'. It pains me to read the shite they post about the 'benefits' of this stuff because if one had the energy or interest they could be taken apart with very little argument. My FB friend doing it is - or used to be - such a lovely young woman with a real talent for engaging others. She could have done something to really benefit herself but instead got sucked into this nonsense. She'll see the light eventually - I hope.

Delphinegreen · 03/12/2014 22:40

Awful company. Has turned about 4 friends into zombie like cult members that I spend my life dodging. I never know if I've been invited for a social outing or a sales pitch.
Thing is the products might be ok but because the company is so awful I refuse to try them out.

LuisSuarezTeeth · 03/12/2014 22:40

Well I don't know anything about it really, but you can't be "forever" living, can you? So it sounds a bit daft.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 03/12/2014 22:57

A friends wife sells this stuff (well into cult levels with constant posts about being paid to work by Skypeing into some training while eating chocolate in bed) and a school gate mum who I like has just taken it up(with an increasingly desperate air so I guess there was a significant initial outlay) . It's tedious, I'd rather buy Tupperware , it will last longer than the water loss and cost significantly less.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 03/12/2014 22:58

PS I know v little other than its the answer to my lazy lardy arsed prayers..... Apparently

But they still find you...

nocabbageinmyeye · 04/12/2014 00:05

Thanks everyone, sorry i should have checked for other threads, i didn't think.

The cult mentality is a bit scary as so many of you are saying it and after a few weeks I can see it coming through. I hope my friend is level headed enough to see past it.

She did say that you have no financial outlay, people pay straight away so assuming that is true my main worry was her alienating her friends with the hard sell

I know someone who works for this company - her and her DP (they are a same sex couple - not that that's relevant really) and they were really lovely women, always very caring and concerned about others. One of them used to be a nurse. Since they've started on this (I think they are both Managers) they are always on FB and are clearly making a very good living, but are getting more and more boastful (and it's SO unlike them) but there are always posts (and even photos) of all the new things in their house, their new cars, pedigree cats and yes often mentioning working in their PJs and earning more in a week than they used to earn in a month. In fairness I haven't noticed them asking anyone else to sell, but there's a lot of talk about the inspirational team members and meetings etc.

However they both have very definitely lost a lot of weight and are keeping it off.........so I'm not sure.....the price puts me off or I might be tempted.

KingJoffreysHasABigWhiteBeard · 04/12/2014 00:24

I'm not sure that working in your PJs is anything to brag about...

I'm all for comfy and relaxed lounge wear during these winter months but boasting about 'working in PJs' makes me think of greasy unbrushed hair, panda eyes and manky old jammies and slipper socks.

TallulahTwinkletoes · 04/12/2014 05:33

There is a financial outlay. Depending on your membership it's 100 and you don't make as much profit/commission or 200 for full membership. They do a VIP thing where you join if you buy a clean 9 but either way that counts as financial outlay.

Those that do best are the ones that have items in stock, not having to wait for it to arrive from hq. Again, initial financial outlay.

I'd become pretty brainwashed/cult like if something was earning me a shit load of cash Wink

Backinthering · 04/12/2014 08:09

NanaNina I read that they get told to lie about stuff and put things on credit so they look like they're doing well!

skolastica · 04/12/2014 08:24

I think that the products are OK. They are supplements. When it comes to supplements, some people take them all the time to keep their health good. These are the customers that the forever living rep wants. Repeat orders.

However, the aloe gel is expensive. I got it for my son's eczema yeara go, just couldn't keep it going because of the cost.

If you think of it as just another 'supplement shop', which I do, then I consider it to be better than Holland and Barrett but not as good as a couple of the places that I use online.

But like others, I think that people getting messianic about health products is very boring.

Yes they do prey on those having a hard time.

The 'soaring manager' I'd be working under if I'd done it was desolate and homeless with a wee one. 'It was such a dark time but look aat me now'

She earns 13k a month. A fucking month. They all have sob stories.

MonstrousRatbag · 04/12/2014 13:22

The worst thing is turning all your friends into 'marks'-people to make money out of. One of my sister's friends signed up for one of these companies. She turned every get-together into a hard sell opportunity then didn't understand why people got cross. It's dishonest to accept an invitation as a friend then turn into a salesperson when you get there, and subvert a kid's birthday party or whatever into a sales convention for your obscure cosmetics.

Someone I know got a discount from some dodgy financial adviser mate by opening up her address book. I got guilted into a meeting with this creep where he gave me the worst pension advice ever. My friend was trying to pressure me to sign up with him, and I never really saw her in quite the same light again. I was her friend, the last category of person she should have been exploiting. Because actually, exploitation is what it is.

specialsubject · 04/12/2014 13:27

none of this alters the facts that 'detox' and 'cleanse' are babble lies and that no non-pregnant adult in normal health needs supplements if they eat sensibly.

MonstrousRatbag · 04/12/2014 13:28

Although, if you are black and living in Northern Europe, Vitamin D comes in handy in the winter months. One of my relatives got so deficient she ended up on prescription-strength supplements.

I have lost a few friends to FL too, rational competent women. Its so sad, their fb is full of inspirational drival and basic bullshit. Apparently one woman doesn't need to worry about christmas because she earns so much yet on another group she was asking about credit union loans because shes up financial shit creek. Its all smoke and mirrors.

specialsubject · 04/12/2014 17:55

ratbags fair dos, will add that to my standard response.

drbonnieblossman · 04/12/2014 17:56

It's snake oil.

Save your money.
