Aibu to think 9 is a stupid number of crumpets to have in a pack? I eat 2 at a time. The normal amount. There's always 1 left. Who the frig wants 1 crumpet?

(Yes some bastard ate the last pair and I've just been confronted by the last measly crumpet in the pack Angry)

I'm hangry.

Microwaved! Shock

CakeAndWineAreAFoodGroup · 03/12/2014 12:33

My toaster holds 2. My grill pan holds 3. I just say I prefer them grilled so I get 3.

With cheese melted on top. Yum.

Coco0123 · 03/12/2014 12:49

Eww no, not microwaved Envy
I put my in the toaster on highest setting so they are nice and crunchy & browned.

TheSkiingGardener · 03/12/2014 12:52

Crumpets are fun to make MrTumble We made some and had too much mix so made an uber-crumpet the size of a large frying pan.

One of my 'friends' asked why I don't just stick them straight onto my bottom as they inevitably end up there. Told her to FO (not really, but I bet she read my thought bubble)

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/12/2014 13:02

Coco - you and Cake are absolutely right - crumpets should be toasted - and I like them well browned too.

Sometimes dh will make poached eggs on marmite crumpets for breakfast - it is the food of the Gods. Actually - I think I will order some duck eggs and crumpets, and then we can all have that for breakfast on Christmas Day.

SouthernComforts - my family owe you a big thank you.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/12/2014 13:05

And I apologise for my earlier YABU.

CaulkheadUpNorth · 03/12/2014 13:06

I'm so jealous of those of you who have toasters which fit crumpets Hmm

Oldraver · 03/12/2014 13:07

I eat Cumpets two at a time as well (and toast).

OH doles out one per person

SlightlyJadedJack · 03/12/2014 13:19

Crumpets should NEVER be soft, they should be toasted until slightly hard and a nice dark brown burnt and then smothered with real butter. Sometimes with jam if I'm feeling fancy. And a giant mug of tea.

TheSpottedZebra · 03/12/2014 13:24

EGGY CRUMPET!
You must try Eggy Crumpet.

It's like Eggy Bread, but... With crumpet. Leave it in the egg good and long to soak up loads.

mix56 · 03/12/2014 13:25

One lonely crumpet ? my heart breaks

Coco0123 · 03/12/2014 13:26

I caved in and bought the well hyped christmas tree shaped crumpets in Asda earlier. Am I in for a disappointment, will they taste as satisfyingly good as regular round ones ? Surface area probably works out less than round ones Angry

CaulkheadUpNorth · 03/12/2014 13:26

I'm also shocked no one has said about crumpets and Nutella. Which is obviously the main way to have them...

CaulkheadUpNorth · 03/12/2014 13:27

I recommend square crumpets. They are great. Grin

Icimoi · 03/12/2014 13:27

Can I recommend the wonder that is Staffordshire oatcakes? They're like a large pikelet, and yummy with lots of butter or with melted cheese on and rolled up like a pancake.

HaveYouSeenHerLately · 03/12/2014 13:27

I love this thread!

CaulkheadUpNorth · 03/12/2014 13:28
Coco0123 · 03/12/2014 13:29

CaulkheadUpNorth I've not known a toaster that doesn't hold a crumpet. Can you not flatten them a bit and squash em in?
Failing that, maybe you need to down size to the thinner pickelet as mentioned upthread!

Alchemist · 03/12/2014 13:30

I've just had 3 which were beautifully browned and dripping with butter.

I feel much happier now.

tattychicken · 03/12/2014 13:33

Can I recommend Philadelphia on a toasted, slightly cooled crumpet, topped with smoked salmon. Can demolish four of those buggers no problem. And I have the Christmas tree crumpets too! From Tescos. For the children, obviously.

Fallingovercliffs · 03/12/2014 13:35

If you buy two packs you will have 18 crumpets, which is a nice even number Smile

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/12/2014 13:39

EGGY CRUMPET!
You must try Eggy Crumpet.

It's like Eggy Bread, but... With crumpet. Leave it in the egg good and long to soak up loads.

Oh my word! I really need some crumpets now, TheSpottedZebra!!

And I am going to give crumpets and nutella a go too - thanks, Caulkhead.

It would be environmentally unfriendly and wrong to drive to the Co-op just to buy some crumpets, wouldn't it?

BooDidIScareYou · 03/12/2014 13:44

Jam? Nutella? What is this trickery? Not at all sure about either of those. Butter and marmite is the only way they are served in the Boo household! And if at all possible they have to be the Warburtons ones as they are more, erm bouncy (and come in a pack of 6 so would solve the OP's odd number of crumpets ishoo)

Sizzlesthedog · 03/12/2014 13:45

Crumpets should be toasted in front of a fire until rock hard. Then slather in real salted butter, and eat with butter dripping down your chin.

I don't allow myself to eat crumpets anymore.
