Sick of arguing with DH over this ( school related)

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 02/12/2014 23:33

ds aged 8 teacher uses an e-cig in class.

Not only have my son noticed but many other children. I pick a few up from school due to parents working and not having enough time to get from work to the school so just wait on the yard.

From my point of view is that I am a smoker, ds sees me smoking ( I always go outside)

Dh doesn't want the teacher using an e-cig in school.

But e-cigs only emit steam, so it's not damaging the DC heath.

So I will hand it over to MN. Should DH complain or not.

I'm sure I read some evidence recently about an increase in children vaping, these children having never smoked and probably wouldn't ever have smoked

NoSundayWorkingPlease · 04/12/2014 09:42

Why Japanese plum?

Jill2015 · 04/12/2014 09:47

Ah, I thought we only cast Nasturtiums in my family.

No, we do it too. And one team I worked on some years ago, we used to cast them also. It's fun.

Sorry, OP, I'm no help.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 04/12/2014 10:45

Longtail a DF gave up smoking after 30 years and vapes, apparently you used to be able to do it in pubs but now you have to go outside with the smokers and he finds this really hard - it's triggering the old habit for him.

Longtalljosie · 04/12/2014 20:30

You probably found it upsetting for psychological reasons - i.e. you saw the vapour and it looked a bit like smoke and it reminded you. Sorry you're still missing it, it never goes away for some people.

I believe you, but then that's a teaser. I barely consider myself an ex-smoker these days, and haven't thought about it in years and years and years - even with other people smoking cigarettes near me. But the vaping did, it seemed to me, give me a nicotine hit. Ah well, there you go.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 04/12/2014 21:53

Ah well, there you go.

I do sympathise, there are 5 vapers now in my wider family and my DM is So. Fucking. Angry. that vaping is around now, 10 years after she had to stop smoking because of emphysema. She still threatens (frequently) that if she's ever 'having a bad day' she will go out and buy fags. I think I've persuaded her that if she ever finds herself clutching a tenner at the fag counter she's to buy a cig-alike and then shout one of us for help.

Actually though, she's in her 80's and can do whatever the hell she wants Smile

This is not aimed at you, Longtall, it's a general comment ...

It's time for anti-smokers to get back to understanding why they are anti-smoking. You don't (or you shouldn't) waste this amount of energy railing against something just because the smell or the look of it annoys you. The reason you should hate smoking is because it kills half of all people that use the product as directed (about 100,000 people each year in the UK, most of whom became addicted as children), because it damages the health of those around the smoker and because it is both caused by, and massively increases, health inequalities.

Vaping causes none of these problems. It looks a bit like smoking if you squint hard and ignore what people have in their hands. It smells vaguely and briefly of sweeties or pudding or fruit, then it goes away and you're not left with your hair or clothes smelling. Meanwhile it's saving loads of lives, creating a healthier environment for everybody and is giving back some of the most stigmatised people in society a little bit of pride, which increases their wellbeing in all sorts of ways and stops them being such a drain on you, the taxpayer.

Vaping is under threat from ill-thought-out bans and excessive regulation. If anti-smokers embraced vaping as part of the solution instead of part of the problem we could make smoking obsolete within a couple of decades.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 04/12/2014 21:55

japaneseplum - Vaping isn't healthy, it's actually quite dangerous.

That's a strong statement, what's it based on?

Lookslikeimstuckhere · 04/12/2014 21:59

I need to be more pro-active in my classroom if these are acceptable. I hide my diet coke from the kids!

I am sure there is an IT usage policy against it, as some of the cheaper imported e sigs come with malware and virus ready to install through the USB. Keyloggers to get bank login details, Paypal passwords, etc.

GoodKingQuintless · 04/12/2014 22:11

More about this here: thehackernews.com/2014/11/china-made-e-cigarette-chargers-could_26.html other sources if you google.

I'm a little upset that some posters don't belive the thread is real.

I enjoy coming onto mumsnet and I know how frustrating it is when a thread with lots of helpful replys turns out to be a troll.

When picking up Ds today a few other parents have commerted on it.

Any how, I have asked mnhq to delete this thread.

DirtyOldTown · 05/12/2014 00:30

So the school hasn't come back to you yet? Did the other parents complain as well?

LineRunner · 05/12/2014 00:35

What, another thread mown down in its prime?

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 05/12/2014 07:27

GoodKingQuintless - while that's possible, as it is with anything at all that you plug in your computer, in this case the entire story was based on an unsubstantiated reddit comment. Here - 'For the record, the user who posted the tale said, "it was just a story," when asked for details such as the type of charger or the IP address the malware was using.'

GoodKingQuintless · 05/12/2014 08:26

With most things tech, if a new delivery method is discovered, it won't be long before somebody will try using it. In this case a warning has gone out through norsis in my native Norway urging caution with cheap imports of both the esigs and the sub chargers.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 05/12/2014 08:53

It's still worth pointing out that it's never actually happened.

GoodKingQuintless · 05/12/2014 10:06

Fair enough, but just because it has not happened, does not mean it wont - especially not when the possibility is there.

QueenTilly · 05/12/2014 10:23

Not exactly an issue specific to ecig or their chargers, though. And probably very unhelpful for it to me framed as such.

Flash drives store data. They can store wedding photos and viruses, and the tech is now small enough that MI5 have probably got USB flash drives disguised as mobile phone charging cables. With useful viruses on.

YesIDidMeanToBeSoRudeActually · 05/12/2014 10:32

It is annoying when so many people shout troll, as I said earlier, I recognised OP's name and she has a history. I thought if this was me, I would just say fuck it and not bother coming back.

But we need to know what the school said, please don't leave us wondering Smile

christinarossetti · 05/12/2014 10:33

I thinly Op means that the children have seen the teacher charging her e-cigar in the computer rather than vaping while she's actually teaching.

It's not on and probably contravenes council policy. Your dj is right.

AmyMumsnet · 05/12/2014 11:23

Hi everyone,

As Kate has already said, we really don't want nasturtiums, or any other garden variety troll hunting, on the thread.

We have no reason to believe the OP isn't genuine, and we've zapped all troll-hunting posts from the thread.

As ever, if you do have concerns, please drop us a line rather than taking people to task on the boards.

Ta!

Ohmygrood · 05/12/2014 12:10

Christina that's what I thought as well. I really can't understand why people would think that was so far-fetched.
