Sick of arguing with DH over this ( school related)

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 02/12/2014 23:33

ds aged 8 teacher uses an e-cig in class.

Not only have my son noticed but many other children. I pick a few up from school due to parents working and not having enough time to get from work to the school so just wait on the yard.

From my point of view is that I am a smoker, ds sees me smoking ( I always go outside)

Dh doesn't want the teacher using an e-cig in school.

But e-cigs only emit steam, so it's not damaging the DC heath.

So I will hand it over to MN. Should DH complain or not.

My art teacher in the 80s used to smoke actual cigarettes in class. Not one parent complained.

Going back to OP, the teacher should not be vaping in class.

magimedi · 03/12/2014 09:13

I've been vaping for 2 years & I just don't believe that a teacher would vape in class.

Am also wondering if this is an ecig company testing out the market.

Well at least you know what to get teacher for Christmas. Cinnamon flavour cartridges with a hint of marzipan, perhaps?

Phoenixfrights · 03/12/2014 09:18

The teachers at my children's school smoke camberwell carrots in class but I don't feel I should complain. DS says it makes the learning more interesting.

marnia68 · 03/12/2014 09:23

My DD2s teaxher drinks coke and coffee in class and chomps on mars bars, which I think is a bit off?

marnia68 · 03/12/2014 09:24

sorry about typos - haven't put my contact lenses in yet![

Merry mouse-only if it's cold and won't scald anyone ;)

WaywardOn3 · 03/12/2014 10:03

Studies have shown that ecigs are not quite as harmful as real cigs but are still harmful. They're currently looking into how harmful it is to breath in the vapour secondhand.

That's the problem with rushing out a wonder 'cure' for things no major in depth research until it's already in use

If she really is using it in class I'd be complaining as it's not acceptable

YesIDidMeanToBeSoRudeActually · 03/12/2014 10:09

I recognise OP so I don't think you are trolling OP, but it's much more likely DS has got the wrong end of the stick.

MiddletonPink · 03/12/2014 10:29

' but DS don't lie ' are you sure about that OP?

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 03/12/2014 10:44

Ds is Asd, he is very literal.

There is no way he would make this up.

Here is a list of my name changes.

PiperIsOrangePumkin.

I am not a troll and I think mumsnet can verify that.

Going to speak to the school about this.

Hairtodaygonetomorrow · 03/12/2014 10:54

If this is what is happening, then I wouldn't find it acceptable. I am pretty pro-e-cigs as a public health measure, but I find most e-cig users are quite respectful of others and I really don't know any who would use an e-cig when teaching children. The people I know who interact with children/young people use their e-cigs on breaks/or in their offices, not when on display.

You could ask about it at the school, if this is happening then I'm sure you won't be the only parent up there about it (which is odd why it is still going on- my kids would be telling on their poor teacher the very first day they used it).

KateSMumsnet · 03/12/2014 11:29

Hullo everyone,

Thank you for all your reports. We'd like to remind everyone that regardless of whether you personally believe a thread or not, it's not really on to troll hunt (and it is after all against our talk guidelines, or cast nasturtiums about the veracity of an OP.

Damnautocorrect · 03/12/2014 11:37

I'd like to be able to cast nasturtiums. It would be an awesome power

I'm not helpful at all

MiddletonPink · 03/12/2014 11:47

Ok OP I'm sorry. In that case I would go into school pronto and speak to the head. If it is an e cig that your ds has seen this is definitely wrong and I would think a warning or if not worse offence.

Ohmygrood · 03/12/2014 11:52

Is the teacher only charging the ecig discretely, but not actually partaking of it while in class?
Not appropriate but I could see that happening. He will be absolutely bollocked for it though if that is the case.

abitwrong123 · 03/12/2014 12:00

Are we allowed to cast nasturtiums in a salad? I've heard that's nice.

gets on helpful bench with damnautocorrect

Girlwhowearsglasses · 03/12/2014 12:48

Ah, I thought we only cast Nasturtiums in my family. I hesitate to say it in case people think I am being literal Smile

LaChatte · 03/12/2014 13:18

I'm a teacher in a middle school, until very recently (when the Head finally decided to ban it) some colleagues would use their e-cigarettes in school, even if it was relatively discrete (in between lessons for example), the kids all knew about it.

LaChatte · 03/12/2014 13:21

(Then again I'm in France, and all sorts of things are tolerated here compared to the UK).

rollonthesummer · 03/12/2014 13:29

Op, please come back and tell us what the school says!

itiswhatitiswhatitis · 03/12/2014 13:33

Totally innapropriate and uneccessary behaviour on teacher's behalf, given that she would never have smoked an actual cigarette in class she has no need whatsoever to use an e gig in the classroom.

Nicotine patches fine, discreetly chewing nictine gum stuff, not ideal but ok

netty7070 · 03/12/2014 13:39

If it's true, it's appalling. You should definitely see the head.
