Sick of arguing with DH over this ( school related)

ds aged 8 teacher uses an e-cig in class.

Not only have my son noticed but many other children. I pick a few up from school due to parents working and not having enough time to get from work to the school so just wait on the yard.

From my point of view is that I am a smoker, ds sees me smoking ( I always go outside)

Dh doesn't want the teacher using an e-cig in school.

But e-cigs only emit steam, so it's not damaging the DC heath.

So I will hand it over to MN. Should DH complain or not.

Ok then, why not go and talk to the teacher? Tell her what DS said and ask whether it's true or not.

Depending on her response you (and your dh) can choose to take it further.

Have you spoken to any other parents of children in the same class? If it was at our school we would TOTALLY be gossiping about this.

Archduke · 03/12/2014 06:16

Oh and the fact that you smoke is utterly irrelevant.

I can't believe s teacher would do this.

FYI many e cig devices are untested and they are pretty new do no long term effects gave been noted yet.

I can't believe your happy exposing your child to I tested emissions

No school I know of - independent, state, academy - allows the use of any e-cig in just the same way none allow smoking.

DH must be sick of arguing with YOU over this and I'm surprised he didn't contact the school straight away about ds's allegations.

WD41 · 03/12/2014 07:28

Okaaaay

On the off chance this is true then I'm with your DH obviously.

YouTheCat · 03/12/2014 07:33

Seriously? Hmm

Next thing you'll be telling us she enjoys a lunchtime gin and tonic.

fluffyraggies · 03/12/2014 07:38

And no other members of staff have noticed? No TAs? No fellow teachers? No office staff walking by? No volunteer parents? No other parent been told by their child?

A teacher smoking in class would/will not go un-noticed for very long.

Trooperslane · 03/12/2014 07:38

Sticky has it.

Confused Op.

skylark2 · 03/12/2014 07:42

I can believe she charges it up.

Actually uses it? Nah. Not least because the very first time she did so there would have been complaints from almost every other parent, even if you weren't sure.

I think your DS has found a way to push your buttons.

And any ecig which contains flavours emits more than steam. How could it not? How do you think the flavour gets into the smoker's system?

(FWIW, I think they're a darn sight safer than smoking. I also suspect this is a test post to see if anyone reacts to "only emit steam".)

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt; what country do you live in?

TrendStopper · 03/12/2014 07:51

I think e-cigarettes should be treated like normal cigarettes. If you want to smoke them you do it outside. My BIL sat in a restaurant and smugly smoked an e-cigarette. He thought that he was smart and clever.

If i found out a teacher was smoking in class i would be right down there reporting it to the school.

shelfontheelf · 03/12/2014 07:53

Where do you live?

RokensWife · 03/12/2014 07:55

I'm a teacher and I can tell you that there is absolutely no way this is true!

whatadrain · 03/12/2014 08:16

Also a teacher and there is no way that this would happen at my school!

Even if the students think this is happening it needs to be reported immediately as it is completely inappropriate, whether you are a smoker or not!

rollonthesummer · 03/12/2014 08:35

Is this a state school in the UK? If not, I might just believe you. If so, then I'm afraid I don't.

Teachers in my lea aren't allowed phones in their class (all left in Central lockers), hot drinks in the class even in a sealed flask etc etc!!

merrymouse · 03/12/2014 08:48

I also don't believe that the teacher would be swigging a can of diet coke because its a substitute for normal coke or eating low fat crisps because they aren't as bad as normal crisps.

Regardless of the ins and outs of e-cigs, some behaviour just isn't appropriate in a classroom.

merrymouse · 03/12/2014 08:54

But rollon, surely a decaf coffee with sweetener and coffee mate would be fine? Grin
