Aibu in posting this here, in the hopes that the people of mumsnet let Claridges know how unreasonable they are being?

You could segregate public places.

Into people with issues and normal people.

Icimoi · 05/12/2014 14:16

This will come as no surprise to anyone, but that Telegraph report really demonstrates what a lying git Farage is.

Exhibit A:

Mr Farage later issued a clarification of his comments, saying it was "immensely frustrating" the way they had been interpreted.

"The media fabrication over breastfeeding has been extraordinary," he said.

Exhibit B:

Asked if women should be told to go to the ladies' room if they want to breastfeed, Mr Farage replied: "Or perhaps sit in the corner, or whatever it might be – that's up to Claridge’s.

"It’s not an issue that I get terribly hung up about, but I know particularly people of the older generation feel awkward and embarrassed by it.”

Wonderingpondering · 05/12/2014 14:36

""It’s not an issue that I get terribly hung up about, but I know particularly people of the older generation feel awkward and embarrassed by it.”"

Aargh such a ridiculous thing to say I want to tear my hair out.

Sorry for re-posting this but:

Breastfeeding is saving the NHS millions of pounds.

For example:

"If the 21% of women who were exclusively breastfeeding at six weeks continued until their baby was at least four months old, it would save £4m a year in hospital and GP bills, the researchers said."

"It said £11m every year could be saved by preventing infections and £31m by reducing the cases of breast cancer.

The Department of Health said it was "absolutely crucial" that new mothers received the support they needed."

So by bf your baby you are freeing up precious NHS resources. Win win, no? Xmas Smile

leedy · 05/12/2014 14:42

"people of the older generation"

It's those imaginary old people again!

Also slightly off topic, but I was horrified to realize that Nigel Farage IS ONLY EIGHT YEARS OLDER THAN ME.

EEVEElution · 05/12/2014 14:51

HTH!

Claridges Breastfeeding Policy
BeyondRepair · 05/12/2014 14:54

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2861994/Put-baby-corner-Farage-tells-mothers-not-openly-ostentatious-breastfeeding-babies.html

so dc said they should be made to feel embarrased so what does the law do to support that, claridges say they want mothers to be discreet?

total opposites there, the law does not go far enough.

tiktok · 05/12/2014 14:55

LOLz @ EEEEEVIE :)

DuelingFanjo · 05/12/2014 15:20

"Weeing, pooing and masturbating is all natural as well but it doesn't mean we want to see it whilst eating. Don't enforce things on others!"

Bingo Bingo Bingo - I cal breastfeeding Bingo.

Did you just compare feeding a baby to Weeing and Pooing and masturbating?!!
Do you realise how odd that makes you sound you weirdo?

leedy · 05/12/2014 15:22

I think I'm just going to pick some other random bodily processes and decide I don't want to look at them. "How dare you eat in public! That's disgusting! I mean, I know it's natural but you're actually inserting food into an orifice! Ewwww!". Or breathing, maybe....

tiktok · 05/12/2014 15:25

Don't know about you lot, but my blood actually circulates round my body when I am eating in Claridges.

Ewwwww.

I also blink - and people can see me doing it. I am so brazen.

leedy · 05/12/2014 15:31

DISGUSTING!

tiktok · 05/12/2014 15:35

Blush Blush

ithoughtofitfirst · 05/12/2014 15:38

Masturbating?! LOL

Icimoi · 05/12/2014 15:45

tiktok, next thing we know you'll be admitting to breathing when you go into Claridges. How revolting are you. All natural processes should be banned in Claridges.

PterodactylTeaParty · 05/12/2014 15:56

Breathing in public is fine as long as people breathe discreetly. I don't want to see you waving your lungs around. And no I don't care if I can't actually see any lungs, you breathing makes me aware that they're there and doing things and I am plagued with visions of lungs flapping in my face. You should go off and breathe in the toilets, or be organised and do your breathing before you leave the house or something. Why would I want to see you squirting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere when I'm trying to eat my lunch? My cousin's daughter's friend's dog's vet breathed, and she used to stock up a ventilator with oxygen if she was going out in public because she was considerate of other people's feelings. Especially the generations born before 1900, because they don't breathe at all and feel very awkward about it.

tiktok · 05/12/2014 16:15

Would it be ok to sit in a corner and breathe, with a tablecloth on?

PterodactylTeaParty · 05/12/2014 16:24

Only if you look suitably ashamed of yourself.

Justgotosleepnow · 05/12/2014 16:37

Leedy what a great idea!
Can someone please go out all dressed up, cleavage on show. Tiara and Spotlight.
Then feed the baby. From her shock horror breast. Take pics before and after.

Just to demonstrate to all the thick ignorant idiots that there's a lot more breasts visible in day to day life than from any Breastfeeding mother.

And even if she does show some boob- so what? They are breasts they are designed to lactate Confused

Because it seems that it's only acceptable to show breasts that are not lactating and are purely for the male gaze. Wrong wrong wrong.

Thank god we have the equalities act. I really hope claridges woman makes a complaint to the police.

PortofinoVino · 05/12/2014 16:41

I really can't believe that you are STILL frothing over this thread. Enough now. Just go back to normal.......or IS that frothing for days?

CruCru · 05/12/2014 16:51

Oh dear. I appear to be fighting with some old men on the comments section of the Times. I have turned into one of those people.

ithoughtofitfirst · 05/12/2014 16:51

Bring on the froth.

Wonderingpondering · 05/12/2014 17:25

Milky froth? Xmas Grin

PhaedraIsMyName · 05/12/2014 17:58

Most adherents of compromise seem to think this would be achieved by people who don't want to see it getting their own way entirely

I said I'm quite happy to quietly leave without saying anything. I don't want to watch/see someone breastfeeding but several posters took exception to my even saying that. Bfeeding was the most miserable experience of my life.

tiktok · 05/12/2014 18:19

Phaedra, no one took exception to you saying that.

I can understand you are still upset after your bad experience, but that does not entitle you to stop reading things correctly.

In fact, you were acknowledged as doing the right thing by me and one other poster (who initially said she was 'shocked' at the strength of your feeling, but accepted that your choice to leave was right for you).

The rest of the board ignored you, as far as I can see.

How you get from that to 'several' people taking exception to you, I really don't know.
