And if so, can you explain why?

I'm fascinated by the whole concept.

Educate me.

So as my telly is huge, but not on the wall, is in a big room and cost less than the sofa I should be ok?

Phew.

A tv should be the right size for the room imo. Not common to have one that's too big, just a bit daft!

Wishfulmakeupping · 02/12/2014 17:37

Yes I don't know why but I do

MrsKoala · 02/12/2014 17:37

My parents are horrified we don't have tellys in our bedrooms. So much so they bought us one for our room and said we could pay them back. They were convinced we were desperate for one really.

i think it's odd to have more tvs than people living in your house. Mum and dad have 4 between 2 of them Confused

KingJoffreysDodgyEars · 02/12/2014 17:37

What else is everyone doing that is so intellectual in the evenings?

Reading 50 inch books. Obvs.

Ours is huge. It's a smart TV as well, and 3D. We have family film nights and all sit with 3D glasses on eating crap looking at this big bugger on the wall Grin
Common as muck we are..

Rabbitcar · 02/12/2014 17:40

I thought our 29 inch tv was quite big. Am amazed by the 62 one mentioned. I think we deserve an upgrade!!

grovel · 02/12/2014 17:41

My father dismissed everything he couldn't afford as "vulgar". I've found it useful in life to follow in his footsteps. Saves me from getting envious. I can't afford a big telly, so.......

UKSky · 02/12/2014 17:41

No, they are not common. They are great Smile We can watch our neighbours across the road from our sitting room Wink

We have friends who have a very narrow sitting room and have an enormous TV. You sit about 4 foot away, and actually have to move your head around to see the whole screen.

Vitalstatistix · 02/12/2014 17:41

I don't care if they are or not.

I think it's 'common' to go round classifying everything as common or not common. Whoever wants a big television set should have a big one, whoever wants a small television set should have one and whoever wants to start putting people in boxes should see if Amazon is doing some sort of special deal on jumbo sized grips.

or tiny grips, if big grips are common.

We have beds and bedding etc but the tv and ps4 are the most expensive things we have in the house I think

christ, how much is your telly? - disclaimer i have no idea how much our tv was or how much is the norm for a tv now. Would £500 be utterly ridiculously low? because that's how much i think they should cost.

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 02/12/2014 17:45

I have a huge TV its fairly old and was given to me by my parents as they got latest smart tv. It replaced my big back tv.

I'm not common I'm a snob its just my finances holding me back from that lifestyle

hotfuzzra · 02/12/2014 17:48

I have a really old cathode ray TV that I bought for £30 second hand off eBay and the blipper doesn't even work...
What does that say about me?!

SantyClaws · 02/12/2014 17:51

says you need a new telly hotfuzz Grin

catwithflowers · 02/12/2014 17:53

I think it all depends on the size of the room. If the room is very small then a large telly looks a bit daft IMO and really dominates the room. If the room is large then a tiny telly will be out of proportion and you probably wouldn't be able to see it.

Personally I dislike televisions mounted on the wall but it's purely a personal thing.

TalkinPeace · 02/12/2014 17:55

it is all about proportion

a grand piano in a suburban semi is pretentious

a huge telly in a teeny council flat is daft

a teeny telly in a HUGE living room is insane I'm talking to you Mummy

PoirotsMoustache · 02/12/2014 17:55

The thought hadn't occurred to me to be honest. I do wonder why people feel the need to have such big tellies, but only in passing.

pinkorange · 02/12/2014 17:59

Ours was 300 the ps4 was 350. Next closest item would be 150 for the triple bunk but that was a right rip off as they are on facebook for about 60 exactly the same

madsadbad · 02/12/2014 18:02

Nope not at all, I cant imagine judging someone on the size of their TV.
What's classed as big anyway?

raltheraffe · 02/12/2014 18:08

We live on a rough estate. Since we got the 62 inch TV, which can easily be seen through the window, locals come up congratulating us on it like a new baby.

LittleBearPad · 02/12/2014 18:12

If it fits the room then it's ok but TVs that are too big for a room are a bit naff.

Shock at the three year old with a 50 inch TV in his bedroom.

LaurieFairyCake · 02/12/2014 18:15

I'd love a massive tv - but that's because I want to watch it without my contact lenses

Can't afford one though so my 32 inch will have to do

hotfuzzra · 02/12/2014 18:21

Santy Yes you're right there!
We want an all-singing all-dancing one that we can watch Netflix, stream music and film etc..
But we've just bought a house, about to have a baby and need a new oven more than a telly... So we're stuck with my wanky old one for now...

MrsKoala · 02/12/2014 18:27

Does the size of your fridge/freezer also make you common and vulgar? Because if so i have just bought the most splendificent humungazoid one and it takes up the whole of my tiny kitchen. So big is it that we had to take a wall down to fit it in. For 4 weeks it lived in the centre of the dining room all alone, like the monolith from 2001. It is now opposite the downstairs loo and i sit on the karzy with the door open admiring it's beauty.

Sometimes just knowing i own it is the only thing that gets me thru the day. Wink

raltheraffe · 02/12/2014 18:30

Littlebear the 50 inch TV also doubles up as a second TV when there is a programming dispute between me and OH.

My son loves his TV!
