Was this rude or am I expecting too much from people?

BIL came round to see dh last night. He stuck his head in the living room to say hello and asked what I was watching, then said, blimey, that's a big telly.

I started to tell him about it (it's new and I'm a bit excited about it) and he said that he couldn't see any difference between that and his telly and that they didn't even have a flat screen and that we obviously like spending money and he's never understood people buying huge loud tellies for their home.

I wasn't expecting him to fawn all over it fgs but he brought it up and then shat all over it.

I have other issues with DH's family and what I perceive as rudeness towards me but I keep being told it's me being over sensitive. This one has pissed me off so I'm asking the MN jury.

Aibu to think you don't walk into someone's house and slag off their stuff?

My DGM has always said big TVs are common so it's certainly not new thinking. She has a tiny 16 inch one that she can barely see Grin. She only watches Miss Marple and Poirot when they're on and antiques roadshow, she's quite fond of Keeping Up Appearances too which is quite ironic really...

I agree to a certain extent. I think massive TV's are pointless. Ours is 32 inch. We had a 32 inch massive box one for years until DH got his way about three years ago and finally upgraded to a HD flatscreen. I really can't see the difference between HD and not! And I don't watch TV much anyway so a TV any bigger than we have would be totally pointless and just piss me off tbh, it gets in the way enough as it is! They are ugly things IMO. But I realise some people watch TV a lot more than I do so they see a benefit in having a larger one with a million features... It would be lost on someone like me though. I gather your BIL is the same. If I'm honest I would be thinking what he said but wouldn't be brash enough to say it out loud Grin.
