...to think this toy is the biggest rip off in plastic history and leave it on the shelf?

"DD, what would you like for Christmas?"

"The big Frozen castle Mummy. It's all I've ever wished for!"

Repeat x 100

So Mummy looks at the big Frozen castle.

Why in the name of all things holy does this big plastic box cost over £100???? It looks like it is worth about £20. On a good day.

Apparently it is the only toy she has ever wanted (lie). But I can't get anything else out of her that she might like. I tried introducing the smaller version - £40 and still an obscene price - but apparently it doesn't have a sofa?!?!?

Has anyone bought this piece of crap? Thoughts?

Wow. Just looked at the link - ignore everything I said. Jesus Christ, £120 for that?!?

CattyCatCat · 28/11/2014 22:03

Agree it is a disgraceful price. I would have very begrudgingly bought it for £50 but no way at the price they are after.

CattyCatCat · 28/11/2014 22:05

You can't even really class it as a doll's house. It barely seems to have useable 'inside'. The furniture is on the God Damn floor!

IsabellaofFrance · 28/11/2014 22:09

I got DD the My Little Pony palace thingy she wanted 2 years ago, it was smaller but just as crap (you only had to look at it and the whole thing collapsed). Looking at that I don't feel so ripped of now.

Luckily DD wants playmobil this year.

KatoPotato · 28/11/2014 22:09

Good grief that's a shambles! No I wouldn't on principle, just like I refuse to pay £16 for a PIZZA (yes, dominos I'm looking at you!)

ThePinkOcelot · 28/11/2014 22:10

£120?!! Thats disgusting!!

fuzzpig · 28/11/2014 22:15

Wow. Even playmobil (which is decent quality) would be less than that, for that size.

Very glad my DCs haven't seen it as they would totally want it!

Pippin8 · 28/11/2014 22:18

It is a huge rip off. However, as a child I had a she-ra castle similar to that & I loved it. Absolutely loved it. I played with it all the time & took it everywhere. It was probably very cheap in comparison though.

Gawjushun · 28/11/2014 22:20

That looks crap. It's just a shell of plastic. The dolls don't even look like they fit inside. But I'm sure my mum had the exact same thoughts when she saw my christmas lists in the past.

KatoPotato · 28/11/2014 22:29

Pippin If I was at school with you I'd do everything in my power to come play with that castle!

fuzzpig · 28/11/2014 22:33

It's really taking the whole merchandising thing to a new horrible level. I went into The Entertainer earlier and a whole wall is Frozen stuff - so much of it total shit. I don't know if I'm imagining it but it certainly seems like there's a lot more branded stuff available than for previous Disney films.

Thankfully DD hasn't mentioned wanting any frozen themed stuff for Xmas, the only thing I've got with Anna and Elsa on it is a bus pass holder Blush :o

fuzzpig · 28/11/2014 22:33

(The bus pass holder is for DD I mean, it's not mine I want a moomin one :o)

CocktailQueen · 28/11/2014 22:41

God. What overpriced shit. And we're destroying our planet so factories in china can churn out this crap. God save us.

chocomochi · 28/11/2014 22:42

OMG! No way would I get that at that price knowing DDs will only play with it for a little while.

superstarheartbreaker · 28/11/2014 22:52

I am AMAZED that Disney hasn't invented a better quality and yet relatively cheaper castle. Even the lego version is shite. There is a gap in the market here... Frozen is huge!

bensam · 28/11/2014 22:56

Yanbu. Everything related to Frozen is overpriced right now. Just bought DD this:
Amelia Dolls House £99 from Smyths toys -£12 with promo code. Maybe you could show her?

Chippednailvarnish · 28/11/2014 23:01

I saw this and I think my three year old DD will love it.

I just can't justfiy £75 on two dolls!

YANBU!

lightahead · 28/11/2014 23:12

Many years ago I was desperate for santa to bring me a sasha doll just like most of the other girls had at the prep school my parents could barely afford to send me to. I got a cheaper alternative, I still remember the disappointment of this ( I didn't make a fuss). I would say if she's desperate for it and you can afford to buy it let her have it, the excitement she will feel on Christmas Day will create wonderful memories for you to hold onto when she's a teenager and you only get to buy clothes and make up and santa is no more!

Keletubbie · 28/11/2014 23:31

I can't justify £120 for a plastic shell. Even my DM, who would buy this child ANYTHING balked at this.

This is a woman who was miffed when I said she didn't need an iPad when she was 4... Confused

Bulbasaur · 29/11/2014 03:41

You are not really going to be keeping any of the toys she has now as a teenager. Even a really nice quality doll house will only get a limited shelf life. She's only little once, she will never be into children's toys ever again once she gets older. If you can afford it and don't have to make any sacrifices to give it to her, why not?

I remember the year I begged for a gaming system and I got it. It was really one of the best Christmas's I had as a child. I also remember the year I wanted a ridiculously over priced beanie baby, which as you can see now was soooo not worth the price. I remember being flooded with excitement when I got it. Do I have any of these things now? Nope. But I do have the memories of getting the one thing I wanted most.

I would consider it for her. Unless you know of something better she'll like.

Does she have an Elsa and Anna dress yet?

BramwellBrown · 29/11/2014 04:15

YANBU, DD wants one, DD is not getting one, i could buy her a decent wooden dolls house for less.

I've found this for £60 but still too much imo

differentnameforthis · 29/11/2014 04:43

If it didn't have the Frozen branding attached it would probably be around 25-30gbp!

What a rip off!

WhoLovesTheSun · 29/11/2014 04:50

Oh just the hell get it.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 29/11/2014 05:51

It's because of the F word. Hikes price up to a ridiculous level.

Also I am no toy designing expert but it looks a bit naff having 2 castles in one. It needs to decide what it's going to be. I've seen gorgeous Elsa Ice Palaces for much less.

Last week I got DD a Frozen Busy Book. It has 12 figurines in of ALL the characters , even Marshmallow and trolls . Price? 4.50. Now that's more like it.

Thumbwitch · 29/11/2014 06:00

It's far too expensive for what it is but it's obviously going to be worth more than £20! Not only for the plastic moulding but for the toyset included - you'd pay about £20 just for Olaf and all the furniture. Mind you, it shouldn't be £110 - that's just taking the piss. I'd consider it at £75 but probably no more than that.
