...to think this toy is the biggest rip off in plastic history and leave it on the shelf?

"DD, what would you like for Christmas?"

"The big Frozen castle Mummy. It's all I've ever wished for!"

Repeat x 100

So Mummy looks at the big Frozen castle.

Why in the name of all things holy does this big plastic box cost over £100???? It looks like it is worth about £20. On a good day.

Apparently it is the only toy she has ever wanted (lie). But I can't get anything else out of her that she might like. I tried introducing the smaller version - £40 and still an obscene price - but apparently it doesn't have a sofa?!?!?

Has anyone bought this piece of crap? Thoughts?

My 7 year old has seen that and was appalled by the price and declared that it wasn't worth it.

Keletubbie · 28/11/2014 20:45

Thank you for your solidarity MN. I picked up the dolls in the sale, but they're going to have to take up residence in one of the two dolls houses that we already have.

I agree and decided not to buy it. Asda were selling packs of all the dolls (Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Sven and Kristoff) on special for £30 down from £60. They seem to have disappeared but worth keeping an eye out for. That's what my DD will get. I have failed to find a generic palace to stick them in despite much searching.

Any chance the Lego Cinderella palace (or Duplo) would be loved? It's still £50ish but much more to it and will have more play value. Playmobil also do a palace. Otherwise Id just do something else - scooter, tablet, ipod. Whatever will so excite her she will forget the tat.

Anyone1234 · 28/11/2014 20:47

That's the present my dd asked for for Xmas, I wAs exactly the same I'm not spending over £100 on a flimsy pile of poo! Instead I convinced her the frozen light up around £40 was better Grin also I got it in the sainsbury a toys sale and my mum works there so got extra discount

IceRocket · 28/11/2014 20:48

Dd has her heart set on the frozen castle. I know she will be over the moon so I gave in to the cheaper version, I couldn't justify the more expensive one

LuckyCharms · 28/11/2014 20:50

My DD wants it too.

But I've learn my lesson from the great furby disaster of 2012 (bloody thing still sitting unloved on the bookshelf).

She isn't getting it - no matter how much she says she'll play with it, I know better Grin

LuckyCharms · 28/11/2014 20:52

PS. I heard a rumour that they're releasing a lego frozen castle in January 2015, but it may be available before Xmas.

MonoNoAware · 28/11/2014 20:53

I read the thread title and just knew it would be the Frozen castle!

We currently have it sitting in our garage waiting to be wrapped for Christmas. I know I will hate myself everytime I look at it. However, DD has other plastic Barbie tat toys that are played with daily, unlike the beautiful tasteful wooden Barbie house in her bedroom, so I know it will be really well used until it falls apart

What really upset me was looking at how cheap they are over in the US.

taxi4ballet · 28/11/2014 20:55

If it's anything like the Snow White and the 7 dwarfs house we got for dd a few years ago, it will take up tons of room, take most of Boxing Day to put together, be the wrong size for the dolls and be played with about twice. Oh, and then spend years in the loft unused and unloved.

Anyone want a Snow White House + doll + 7 dwarfs dolls going cheap?!!!

KittieCat · 28/11/2014 20:57

Has anyone read the review? The phraseology of why the customer bought it is brilliant. Pretty much 'Grandad's dead, here have some over priced plastic tat'.
I'd pay £50 at a push but £120, they've got to be having a laugh!

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 28/11/2014 20:58

Lego Frozen palace not great but pretty affordable. Due 2015.

Keletubbie · 28/11/2014 20:59

Now, a Lego Frozen castle sounds amazing. And I'd have fun with that. So we can have it.

DD's Lego table is still possibly the best Christmas gift ever. We built it ourselves and it still gets played with regularly years later.

Gah! When you walk into Toys 'r' Expensive it's the first thing you see, is a sea of overpriced Frozen tat.

Dd1 mentioned about the Frozen vanity table. It's about £60 wtf???

vestandknickers · 28/11/2014 21:02

Holy Crapola! Shock

For that price I'd want a real castle!

Keletubbie · 28/11/2014 21:06

I got 2 Peppa houses, a castle, a train, a boat and about a dozen figures... for £8 at a carboot.

The mum STILL looked angry about them :D

I am truly amazed the Frozen bubble has lasted this long! And incredibly glad my own children are teens and now immune to most forms of Disney shite...

dtwins are very close to Christmas birthdays, and we have developed the concept of the UnBirthday. We still have a family party and (smallish) presents, but there will be a big outdoor event to mark six months on, which rather conveniently tends to be during the last week or so of Summer term. This year the big UnBirthday presents were bicycles, which got far more use in summer holidays than they do in winter.

chunkythighs · 28/11/2014 21:20

I caved Blush. However for the past three years DS has been asking for plastic shitty castle. each year I refused- shelling out for a fancy wooden castle last year........he still wants plastic shit..... Sad.

he has a lot of plastic shit- the environment is already fucked with us.........

AliceinWinterWonderland · 28/11/2014 21:23

I went to the Smyths toy store in my area right at opening time recently and there was this fairly good sized queue of people waiting to get in. They only let a few in at a time, only allowed one doll per person, until they were all gone. When I went in, they tried to usher me towards the dolls and I said "Um, no... I don't want one... I'm here to look at video games, thanks.." and wandered off the other direction.

Just. Nuts.

AliceinWinterWonderland · 28/11/2014 21:24

As you've probably guessed (and I forgot to say, as I'm distracted by the tv), it was a Frozen doll that they had a limited supply of.

AliceinWinterWonderland · 28/11/2014 21:26

And eeek.. just saw this... really, why??

OhForFudgeCake · 28/11/2014 21:35

My DD (5) was given this castle as a birthday gift, and I can confirm that - yes she loved it, and has played with it - it is NOT worth the money!

She is happy with it, and enjoys it from time to time, but it is a bit flimsy, she can't open it out or open the front doors/flip down floors etc by herself, and despite having the actual castle, she seems to have more fun making her own 'Frozen castles' for the dolls out of shoeboxes etc

MyCatLovesMeSometimes · 28/11/2014 21:49

DD wants a castle this year, luckily She hasn't seen that Frozen castle and me and DH are trying to decide between a playmobil Knights castle (which she saw on tv and liked) or a melissa and doug folding wooden castle:

DH likes this

whereas I think DD might prefer this one which is also only £42

I was muttering about the price of playmobil however i'm now feeling very lucky.

duplodon · 28/11/2014 21:56

Yabvvvvvvvvvu.

This is much worse, and begged for in this house

RaisingMen · 28/11/2014 21:56

I agree with the reply your up thread, if it really is what her heart is set on and you can afford it, I'd get it. Yes it's overpriced, but aren't you better spending £100 on something she'd love, rather than £50 on something she doesn't want?
